Everybody being so nice to each other in Flash world reminds me of that one episode of JLU, where Flash just kind of talks Mark Hamill's character into turning himself in (when he finishes his drink). "You stopped taking your pills again, didn't you? You're wearing the outfit again."

I might point out it's been shown in interviews that the original idea for "Flash of Two Worlds" came from the artist, Carmine Infantino. DC artists usually drew covers for books after the idea for the issue had been made, but before it was written. In this case, Infantino had gotten to the point where he would draw a cover depicting something strange or unusual and Gardner Fox would THEN figure out how to write the story. One day he drew the original Flash next to the new one and Mr. Fox was all like, "That is a challenge".

I'm *just* old enough to have read "The Flash of Two Worlds" when it first came out. I loved "Crisis of Infinite Earths" (got a sneak peak at a Diamond retailers convention that a friend snuck me in to) but never understood why it was necessary, and future developments have increased that confusion. But I was on the floor laughing with your comment in this video about the orphans: "Maybe Bruce can come to the show and pick one, but only if they have dark hair. That's the rule." I'm a big Batman fan, and this may be the best comment you've made in my 2 or 3 months of watching your videos!

I just realize as you went over this that the Earth-One Flash playing tennis by himself was actually a homage of the Golden Age Flash who was also seen playing tennis by himself after he came out of his months long coma and discovered he had superpowers. I've read Golden Age's Flash's origin story and this first team-up issue a couple of times each and this is the first time it has dawned on me that that is what happened.

5:20 I have to talk about the original Jay Garrick's origin in flash comics #1. I love and hate how he got his powers from a total lack of lab safety. He stays up late at his university lab and he decides to smoke right there next to school equipment. His smoke was so good that he leans back and drops glass containers that were on the table. This third bit is unimportant for the origin but he didn't have a lab coat or apron either. I am humored and annoyed by this origin.

I heard Carmine Infantino (the artist) say in an interview once that the covers had to be out in those days for solicitations months before the books were started. So he drew that cover before the story was dreamed up. He almost sounded like he was trolling Gardner Fox, who then had to figure out the why and how.

l'd love to get your take on the multitude of lesser WWII heroes, like TNT and Dyna-Mite. Everybody got a boy sidekick once Batman got Robin, but these guys had actual powers. Too many guys didn't have powers or even gimmicks- they just put on costumes and beat people up (Wildcat, Atom, Mr Terrific, Firebrand). I always found the WW II heroes interesting, especially once All Star Squadron became a thing. TNT and Dyna-Mite always held my attention, probably because they didn't get much exposure.

My uncle had those very comics! I read them in 1975,while visiting over the summer. I am very grateful that you have posted this. The problems I have had describing the plot of the stories are many because people just don't want to believe that the SILVER AGE was spawned in the multiverse. Now you have given me a way to convince them....gently. Some comics fans are touchy. I already had my own subscription to BATMAN and had brought a few along with me,along with the latest issue of MAD of course. My uncle saw me reading one, and decided that it would be all right to let me see his comic collection and read through them because I would be there for a month. You brought back some awesome memories and I wholeheartedly thank you. Great video.

I bought this issue at a newstand when I was 10, and it made me a big fan of The Flash. I was an avid comic book reader, but had never heard of or seen any of the Golden Age superheroes before. Golden Age comics were rare finds in the 60's - I had just one Batman comic from the 40's, a gift from an uncle. No one treated them as valuable, and kids like me would trade old issues for new ones as soon as we finished reading them.

Having never read this comic, I had no idea how much the Justice League episode Legends was based on it. Possibly my favorite JL story. It seems to me that there would be no need for the complications of a multiverse if there was not an insistence on a canonical continuity. If writers could just tell stories about an interesting character, making it match the character without the need to match a history, things might be simpler. But I suppose there are advantages both ways.

that just sounds so trippy to me, "Jay garrick, the flash of earth-one". However it does make sense when you consider the silver age character's are essentially reboot's and 2.0 versions of the golden age ones who came first, literally being the second, plus it means that they're closer to earth 3, which is an evil parallel to their world (not to be confused with the antimatter universe, a singular universe that's a dark parallel to the multiverse which shares similarities with earth 3, not to be confused with the dark multiverse, another dark parallel to the multiverse which is completely disconnected from the previously established dark parallel to the dc multiverse).

Barry might mess with the timeline a lot but at least during the Flashpoint of the comics Barry realised his mistake and fixed it. But the CW Barry didn't care how him going back in time to save his mother from Thawne affected anyone else as long as he was happy. He was a selfish prick who only ended up reversing Flashpoint because it was making him lose his memories of Iris. But where comics Barry and Iris actually love each other show Barry and Iris's relationship is obsessive lust portrayed as love.

I loved the multiverse, and getting rid of it was one of the things I didn't like about Crisis on Infinite Earths. I would have been happier with them making a new earth for more updated characters, like Marvel did with the Ultimate universe. I suppose that would have made things messier, and stuff like the death of Superman would have been less impactful. It pleases me that you want to call the original Captain Marvel Captain Marvel. I don't care if Marvel wants to have its own Captain Marvel, except I do care about them wanting exclusive rights to the name when to me the original will always be Captain Marvel.
