That gorgeous moment when she manifested the love, hate, happiness, anger, and sadness to their highest levels to surpass the Holy Grail, and transformed into the messiah to save Hotaru 😞❤️

Easily one of the best moments of the whole series!

Because she really is the messiah. This proved it the grail weakened her which is why they thought she wasn't it. Her power comes from what you said

Honestly one of the moments of the 90s anime I think really surpassed the source material. So much of the manga was darker and felt raw and relatable but this? This is one of the most emotional parts of any anime I watched growing up

The most iconic moment in the franchise. Seeing her all tattered and beat up while holding baby Hotaru just says a lot about the struggle she went through.

Naoko Takeuchi didn’t like the changes Toei did because they were away the original manga she wrote but I think a lot of changes were made to make the series better.

The 90 anime series was way better than the original manga, especially the S season.

Yeah sadly crystal follows her vision almost 1:1 and the scene in the reboot looks like any other magical girl, with pop music and " aha my final super glitter attack with the back of my friends" were the anime was more to the identity sailor moon had of , not always power will suffice but kindness and love will make for a grandioso finale

Toei did some very good things and other terrible things, if they had added filler and better adapted the original script, they would have achieved a definitive version of Sailor Moon as a story.

The villains are definitely better in anime. Their characterization are much more interesting. Look at Zoisite and Kunzite relationship. Even in SMSS, I love Amazon Trio.

At least through the first three seasons (minus the Doom Tree side arc). Season 4 and 5 really fell flat for me after reading the manga though. And I feel that Crystal finally delivered on what we had wanted with Eternal and Cosmos

This moment is so iconic. I don't know how some people dare to say Crystal season 3 was better than this. Compare this emotional scene with such a memorable score with the cheap and plastic version of Crystal.
@etherealsky70785 жыл бұрын
For the longest time, I had been defending Crystal against its detractors... even though I couldn’t bring myself to honestly enjoy it. But because I considered myself a “true” Sailor Moon fan, I thought Crystal was “legitimate” because it was faithful to the manga (although that later part could even be discussed). But then, I asked myself: what do I think about when I say I love Sailor Moon? Surely, Mrs Takeuchi’s beautiful illustrations and romantic tales are dear to me. But when I think of Sailor Moon, what comes first in my mind are beautiful, raw scenes such as these. I think about the character interaction in the “filler episodes”. I think about Takanori Arisawa’s heroic and melancholic music. I think about Junichi Satou’s and Kunihiko Ikuhara’s directing (the later going on to make my favorite anime of all time Utena). All these reasons made me realize that, while I am incredibly grateful for Naoko Takeuchi, her manga is not the reason I love Sailor Moon. At least, not the _only_ reason. The original manga and 90s anime completed each other, playing up the advantages of their respective medium. That’s why Crystal feels hollow, because it transcribes (instead of adapting) a story which, in its manga form, was *very* quick and more interested in showing cool lore and pretty drawings. And the anime can’t even do the art part right ... (then again, Takeuchi’s designs only really work in manga, and become quite akward when adapted too faithfully for animation) I’m sorry for the long rant, but I thought that maybe it would be interesting to explain my journey as an ex-defender of Crystal!

Now, I don't even know how will it still work with the upcoming double film set to be released this 2020. I hope that "Sailor Moon: Eternal" (officially confirmed name) does it better than C3 by recovering that very same spirit that the 90's series had on their best time. Although I know it won't be easy or it may won't repeat ever again, but still...

And the fact that we never see what actually happened inside Pharaoh 90...ugh. Goes to show that often the best dramatic moments are about what we DON'T see. The only other example similar to this that I can think of is in "Poltergeist," when Diane goes through the portal to get Carol Anne back. We NEVER see what exactly happened in there, but it almost doesn't matter, because in the end, she gets her back. And the same goes here, with Sailor Moon and Hotaru. We don't see what exactly happened inside Pharaoh 90, but it almost doesn't matter. The point is, she did it. She did the thing. She got Hotaru back, AND saved the world from destruction. And the that's all that matters. As tattered and torn as she looks at the side of that crater when everything's over and the sun comes up, it was worth it. She doesn't even need to explain what happened. It's over, and she won, and Hotaru (as well as the world,) is saved, and that's all that matters to Usagi.

These days anime producers are starting to think that explicitly showing or allowing the audience to _hear_ what actually happens is appropriate, not realizing or caring that it yanks the narrative tone in a completely different direction or leaves a really bad taste in the viewer's mouths. But they'll do it because they think there's an alleged "demand for dark fantasy" or "it's more realistic" (buddy if I want realistic violence, I'll watch the evening news). There was one production that marketed itself as a plain old fantasy adventure in the trailer, and episode 1 had brutal murder and r*pe complete with screams; CR was also fooled by the trailer and rated it "TV-14" before it aired, whoops. So I can't even trust anime trailers anymore, clearly there are anime producers and bigwigs out there who think it's acceptable to deceive and potentially traumatize the audience.
