Metal Gear (Japanese: メタルギア, Hepburn: Metaru Gia) is a series of action-adventure stealth video games created by Hideo Kojima and developed and published by Konami. The first game, Metal Gear, was released in 1987 for MSX home computers. The player often takes control of a special forces operative (usually Solid Snake or Big Boss), who is assigned the task of finding the titular superweapon "Metal Gear", a bipedal walking tank with the ability to launch nuclear weapons.
Several sequels have been released for multiple consoles, which have expanded the original game's plot, adding characters opposing and supporting Snake, while there have also been a few prequels exploring the origins of Metal Gear and recurring characters. The third game in the series, Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation, marked the beginning of a whole new line of 3D for Metal Gear. As of September 2020, over 56.5 million copies of games in the franchise have been sold worldwide, with individual installments critically and commercially acclaimed and receiving several awards.
The series is credited for pioneering and popularizing stealth video games and "cinematic video games". Notable traits of the series include stealth mechanics, cinematic cutscenes, intricate storylines, offbeat and fourth wall humour, and exploration of cyberpunk, dystopian, political and philosophical themes, with references to Hollywood films to add flavor. The franchise has also been adapted into other media, such as comics, novels, and drama CDs. Solid Snake has also gone on to appear in other games, such as the Super Smash Bros. series and Ape Escape 3.

While metal gear rising had some fun game play with the cutting mechanics, I don't consider it canonical. I pre-ordered the game when it was still named "metal gear solid rising", which was going to show how Raiden became a cyborg. When they totally scrapped that idea and turned it into the final product, I knew it would be as Canon as the ac!d games, which I did enjoy... but consider them separate timelines.. I would've loved to see Raiden infiltrate area 51 to rescue sunny, save her, but either get captured or trade himself for her freedom and get experimented on and forced to continue to be a pawn of the patriots for a while.

He doesn't really fall under the same umbrella. He was wore a "flex armor" suit which isn't really elaborated to be something unto an exoskeleton or cybernetics, as well as using drugs to amp himself: mgsdb.com/en/enc/6

Can we just stop and say something, metal gear Ray's or GRADS and Geckos are practically useless now. Let's be straight here if raidens older gen body had barely enough power to Fucking THROW A METAL GEAR RAY then what's stopping someone from gearing a team up like dead cell or the winds of destruction, but with similar gear to raiden. Unstoppable, but Ray's would be considered outdated compared to the final boss metal gear.

Plus the EXCELSUS is far more advanced than the REX and RAY and will probably be mass produced and replace them who knows maybe in the future the cyborgs and exoskeletons than will make raidens custom cyborg body and Sams ExoSuit look primitive

This is one of those things about the metal gear series I could never explain to my friends, but now Im getting the gist of it in a more consistent form than with the in-game lore, I'm so glad you spent your time to put this together!

None of my friends care for the metal gear series.. so I have to go online and discuss things like this with strangers to get that nerdy fix. I'm so glad the metal gear community is so passionate about it like I am. The first metal gear solid came out when I was 6 and I've been obsessed ever since. I've played every game to carry the metal gear name except the gambling machine... and while I dislike some, like most, and have beat all...two things have always bothered me: 1. I wish solid snake would return as the protagonist. I like big boss, but solid snake is my favorite. And 2. I wish mgs2 got more love. It's weird, and while I initially was disappointed snake wasn't the player character through most of it, I did like Raiden (gasp. I know). I think a modern remake would be gorgeous. They could even add segments where you play as solid snake as plisken during the big shell when he is off doing his thing to flesh it out even more. Just my opinion and wish. I love mgs1, but I don't personally need another trip to shadow Moses Island. Metal gear 1 and 2 with modern game play would be great, mgs2 remake would be nice... and even a remake of mgs4 would be great. BTW, if you ever play metal gear solid mobile, the one made for pre-smart phones, be wary. It's decent and impressive for an ngage game... but it's disappointing to no fault of it's own. It's set between 1 and 2. The Gameboy color metal gear, mgs ghost babel, is actually a decent successor to metal gear 1 and 2, and a passable alternate timeline.

@@alexrehak5564 The same reason Captain America or Batman can fight Cyborgs or amped humans: it's fiction. A "normal human" (a genetically modified human cloned from an irradiated super soldier) can be able to beat a cyborg in hand-to-hand if that's what's written.
