It's easy to see Morden as a slimy, conniving type but you have to remember - when the Icarus was destroyed, the Shadows "rebuilt" him and the others. Obviously they didn't rebuild them back exactly like they were, as evidenced by Anna Sheridan. They're more like cheap copies of the original people.

The Shadows did not rebuild their servants. The Icarus crew was given the choice to either serve willingly like Morden or be turned into a shadow vessels CPU. I even doubt they implanted top ambassadors like Morden with a Keeper since they would always be escorted by 2 shadows anyways. Anna Sheridan refused to serve and was turned into a Shadow vessels CPU. When they realized the relation to Sheridan they pulled the thing that was left out and had it act as if it´s Anna, based on remaining memories, to get their hands on Sheridan.

From what I could gather, the shadows and vorlons were neither good or evil, but one wanted order and slow growth and evolution, while the other wanted chaos and quick growth and evolution. I LOVE the way the scene is lit. Morden sits in his cloak, skin burned, peeling off flakes which are on the floor and blown away by the wind. Meanwhile, Londo looks like he's pasty white and SCARED of what Morden has become. The dialogue clinched it for me. The way Morden uses self deprecation then switches to humor and FINALLY threatened Molari OH SO subtly is JUST creepy enough.

The comment Morden makes about why Lando will help him I feel like summarizes many of the decision Lando makes, not just with the Shadows, but even throughout events in season 5 and the movies. He doesn't necessarily like having to do it but he knows that at long as he's the one "in charge" he can attempt to run some sort of damage control to try and mitigate how bad the fallout is. He doesn't even want to be Emperor when the time comes, he just does it mostly cause he HAS to, as he says in S5, everything he did was for Centauri Prime and her people.

People ask if Morden had a keeper or was just a sneaky, self centered asshole, the truth is the opposite. Morden had a wife, a woman who he loved more than his own life, but when the Icarus was destroyed, she was blasted out into Hyperspace. The thing about Hyperspace is, you don't die, you are trapped between life and death in an eternal purgatory. So when the Shadows asked Morden "What do you want?", he told them he wanted them to save his wife, to have them rescue her from Hyperspace, if only so she could die and be at peace. So you see, everything Morden does, isn't for power or gain, its not because of an invisible squid in his neck, its a true Faustian bargain with the devil, to save the one person he loves in the whole universe.
