That first mini-story. DM speed-ran dealing with the party thief.

And since he's encased in ICE, he'll die from suffocation or freezing, and then, the other PCs can melt and/or chisel their way to him, and recover all the loot, including his. I think it was a great way to deal with him.

Story 1- DM sets new Guinness World Record for World's Biggest A-Hole Story 2- Parents should learn that if their child is disruptive then they should discipline them, because if they're waiting for the world to do it, the world is going to be a lot harsher about it than they are...

No. He was punishing That Guy. That Guy had just attacked the party and was trying to escape with the loot. DM was being reasonable. EDIT: Oh you didn't count the mini story at the beginning at all. Never mind then, but please say so next time?

The game where we killed tiamat ended way worse. The sorcerer who had called himself "the leader" this whole time, and kept waiting to listen to the solution to puzzles and being like "obviously! only you idiots couldn't understand it" (if he was so smart why not answer it?) anyway we ended up with Tiamat being summoned and no way to send her back. So I started using my fighter ability commander's strike to give the paladin more and more attacks, and every attack that hit (dude was hitting/critting like a GOD!) he smited the crap out of the demon lady, meanwhile the sorcerer said "you guys are fucking idiots, she's summoned already, you lost, I'm leaving" he stole ALL of the treasure from her gathering and ran off to start a slave trader place (if we did lose who's the first person she'd go after? probably the prick who stole her +3 greatsword) but our paladin MESSED HER UP! never rolling under a 7 with his d8s and eventually even with only 3 players, due to extremely lucky rolls, we managed to take her out, and the sorcerer was pouting and groaning through it, talking about we how should have lost. we would have if the paladin didn't crit twice per turn with his smites... but why would tiamat the goddess of the material plane at that point, leave the people who all worked to keep her in hell be? she wouldn't, she's got one hell of an appetite for revenge, he woulda been toast if we didn't luck out without him.
@AuntLoopy1233 жыл бұрын
@@PaladinGear15 I hope you guys messed him up, likewise, and got back the loot, including his own. That sort of treason must not go unpunished. However, if I were the DM and my player did that, I'd say, "Hand me your character sheet. Sorcerer is now the new BBEG. You, roll up a new character. At level 1." Yes, I know new characters should join at the same level, or at most one level lower, because it screws up the balance. But play asshole games, get asshole prizes. He can get a massive XP dump after a session or two of being massively outclassed. Or, get a talking to, and he either apologizes (and gets a new character at the same level), or he gets booted. There are a few options. But either way, that sorcerer is A new villain, whether or not he's THE new villain. No longer a party member, and no longer a player character. "Thanks for the epic backstory, dude. The villain is so fleshed out! Tell me, though. What made him turn traitor, there at the end? Was there some thought process we didn't know about?"

I like that intro story. That dm was hella smooth in his response (not that I allow pvp actions personally) but it was the post game so at least that guy didn't pull this crap earlier and derail the WHOLE game
@AuntLoopy1233 жыл бұрын
The DM suggesting that one PC murder another PC, for the XP, was bad enough. But that he suggested doing it when they were almost at the BBEG lair and they'd have to spend weeks trekking back to a place to get raised, just makes it SO MUCH WORSE. Dude. Make the suggestion while you're still in town, with the temple right there. They can murder during the night, at the inn, and then get raised at the temple, and go, all refreshed. ORRRRRR, the DM could send the Rogue on a solo dream adventure, where he has some epic battles that he can win, and if he loses, "it's all just a dream," and get him some good XP that way. Bonus if it's some sort of premonition/precognizance/prescient (take your pick) dream that gives them a warning about the things to come. Extra bonus if you've already set it up beforehand that this character has had these kinds of meaningful dreams before. Or, go the party-cohesion route: The party is holed up in the tavern, being under house arrest because they were falsely accused of a crime. The rogue, however, is capable of breaking through, so they do so. They break through the security keeping them under house arrest, and sneak around, and gather evidence, and return, and then are able to present the evidence at trial, thus leveling up, while saving the party. It doesn't get much better than that! And if you have any sort of communication magic, the party can even be involved, step-by-step, as the rogue communicates his findings with them as he goes. So, it's a solo adventure, but not completely solo, and the others are not present, but are involved. And it also gives the rest of the party the chance to do some serious role-play, amongst themselves, the other people at the tavern, the guards, etc. They can all keep busy, while the rogue is doing his thing. After all, they need to keep the guards off their guard, right? That DM SUCKED.

Intro story, dude does next to no damage, and flees. Guess he was still used to the previous edition which had issues with wizard power scale. In 4E all the classes remain fairly close in strength through the levels so no one really outshines the rest of the party. No epic spell that toasts entire fields of enemies while everyone else just sits there and goes "Huh." So he made it all that way and picked a fight with a group who through numbers was stronger than him. Then he ended up stuck in ice which was just priceless. It's like robbing a bank and driving your car through a building during a police chase. Only to find you just crashed your car into the lobby of the police station and are surrounded.

Intro - sounds fair... ice isn't as structurally sound as stone so one would expect the floors to be thicker just to support the weight. 😈

One of my first campaigns as a player was a sort of player vs player campaign. Basicly the campaign was at a small out of the way game store. N the campaign was setup for newbies. Basically we were decided into 2 different groups and we're sent out on different types of fetch quests and task and ended up competing. We learned basicky how to play our character, classes, rp and all that good stuff. But later down the line we the players found out that we are basicly games pieces for 4 god like beans. Each one the embodiment of one of the ailiennents. Good ,evil, law, chaos. Basicly has you dew they had a bet to see which ailiennents was best and our players where chosen. And slowly working with it against each other the team/ players of a god the player/ team that wins the most tasks wins what there character wants and more.

Or at least, have the PC's character do a side mission while the PC is way.
@AuntLoopy1233 жыл бұрын
Exactly! He could just say to table, "Look, folks. We need this party to be balanced, so I am gifting XP to the player. It's one thing to be one level behind, but I draw the line at two, because I have to balance the encounters, and two levels behind screws that up. So, I'm going to Hand of God this guy some XP, so that the party will be properly balanced for the big battle. I want you to know that I would do the same for any player in a similar situation. This is about making the game FUN for everyone, including ME. Because balancing encounters for unbalanced parties is ANNOYING." Or, he could say "The party is tied up in X situation. Only the rogue is able to escape. The rogue now has a solo mission to complete Y, before Z happens, and SAVE the PARTY. Rogue, you need to act fast, as the clock is running, but if you succeed, you'll go up at least one level, just from all the solo XP." And make the side-adventure very short, like 30 minutes. OR, make sure the rest of the party has lots of role-play opportunity, while the rogue does his solo thing. OR, make sure the party can communicate with the rogue, so they are not actively involved, but they are still involved, and playing, while the rogue does his thing.

Honestly he's punishing players for being unable to make it to games by not letting them level up along with the party. People have real lives outside of games and sometimes they have other obligations more serious. Punishing them for being unable to make it is dumb in my opinion.

I think that game store owner handled it well with the kid, if slowly. He gave the kid "another warning," and then after TWO WEEKS, which would probably be two sessions for the kid, he said, "Nope! You have struck out." He tried talking to the kid and/or the kid's parents. He gave warnings, stating what needed to change, and what the consequences would be if the kid didn't change. He gave the kid a fair chance (two whole sessions) to prove himself, and then when the kid failed, he followed through. He didn't even make it a permanent ban. He said the kid could come back when he was more mature. Yeah. I think he needs to work on the DM vs. Players attitude, especially when you are paying to be murdered by your DM. WHAAAT? Perhaps he could actually ADVERTISE. "To those who WANT an adversarial game, this DM is the one for you." Because some people actually do want that. They are just a really small minority. OR, he could tell the DMs, all of them, "People pay to play here. We should give our CUSTOMERS a pleasant experience. If you want to be adversarial, do that at your own home game, please. HERE, we treat our customers well. If you can't abide by that ruling, you won't be DMing here." But then again, if the players don't complain to HIM about it, he probably won't know it's considered a problem. The "avoid X" gossip is not solving the situation, because the owner doesn't know it's actually a problem.

Ug yeah that last one, boys are noisy as all get out. I wanted to create a simple dnd game for my nephews but sis was against it because she didn't want them talking about it at school and possibly causing parents who don't approve of the game to get concerned. So I shared my love of writing instead and made them a clone wars story because they were obsessed and made their own characters. I tried to read it back in spring before I had to move back in with my parents' due to health and away from them, but they were off the walls(It was one's b-day, so sugar highs obviously, but oof.), so I gave up and sent it to Sis in an email that she then lost. Much confusion on her part when I said so while visiting this week. And it took me two days to get it done, all the while they interrupted with unrelated things or asking questions that would be answered if they just let me read more than half a paragraph before interrupting. They're good kids but they are boys. If I had taken them to a game shop and they were acting like that I would have tried to control them and then if they wouldn't settle just not take them back and have a talk to them about just not being old enough if they were going to act that way. Maaaybe try a second time after such a talk but most likely not.

I had a PVP recently between Myself and another PC in an Homebrew 5e Isekai campaign I'm in, and it was to our surprise that the DM turned it into a huge event to entertain the city the Party is living in. With a prize for the winner, a huge arena, and everything. We are level 5, I'm a 5e Graviturgy Wizard, and the other PC is a homebrew Mass Effect Sentinel. By some twist of fate, I manage to squeak out the victory despite having many different factor's working to my disadvantage. And no, I didn't have the good old go to Fireball to aid me. In fact, as of that session, I have no directly damaging spells above 1st Level. And the ace up my sleeve, Bestow Curse, was promptly Counterspelled by an item my character was unaware the other PC had. It was pure luck that I won. And it was a great time for everyone.

Get toxic shit bags out of your life and at the very least don't invest hours long play experiences with them.

If your kid is too young or immature to sit for long periods, then don't play DND in a public place and ruin other people's games. Do a few simpler games at home until they have the attention span and manners to not act out.
