For most of his career he wasn’t playing at international level with a team (for almost all of his career), that could contend at WCS or was better than France, GERMANY, Brazil Spain even Italy historically, Argentina, Uruguay chile. Even with their best iteration of the team when older now Portugal always get psyched out by the top dog teams even teams like Morocco that usually beat them historically over again, as they have those scars but no winning or successful WC history to garner confidence from Ronaldo won their first two trophies EVER with them while not being the best.
