In my game my (male) friend has an older halfling pining over my younger halfling. We're playing it as if my character is too dumb to catch on to that he has a cougar ready to pounce. I'm normally someone who believes that patience, understanding and compassion are core values needed to be a good person . . . but in this case I feel both OP and CritCrab are being far too gentle with the Problem Player. OP put up with way more than was necessary and CritCrab's biggest issue was the meta-gaming, when the meta-gaming was only a relatively small part of the problem. Let's flip some genders. OP is now female playing a Lovecraftian horror in a female body. PP is now male playing a male character. Let's even be generous and ignore the "erasing my sexuality" argument, which we'll get into later. You'd have an instance of the PP hitting on OP's character, being told no, and then the PP would continue to flirt and (I quote) "touch" OP's character. And then later get angry when OP's character was willing to use sex to get what they wanted, and demand to know why OP's character wouldn't just sleep with his character already. And when politely refused again, the PP blows up at the other player, does a 180 on their previous attitude, and actively tries to murder OP. If this were a male player and character doing this to a female player and character, the male player would be called an entitled basement dwelling neckbeard who sexually harassed OP in character (all of the constant touching and unwanted sexual advances), and who then tried to murder them when they couldn't get what they wanted. Yet she's treated much less harshly by OP and Critcrab, despite the incredible levels of entitlement, hostility and possessiveness she showed. That kind of behavior needs to be called out regardless of the sex or orientation of the perpetrator, because if it doesn't that behavior has no chance of being corrected. The "erasing my sexuality" is especially bad on multiple levels. "This is a fantasy world, sexuality doesn't exist" would only work if that were the rules of a specific fantasy setting. The fact that the world is imaginary doesn't automatically mean everyone is suddenly pansexual and will simply sleep with whomever. And the hypocrisy of saying "you're erasing my sexuality" while demanding another player conform to your wishes is just staggering. It's actively trying to remove someone else's agency while complaining that they're the ones being oppressed. To paraphrase an old saying (with an admittedly VERY uncomfortable origin) "The hypocrite cries out in pain as they strike you". The metagaming aspect is one of the least egregious aspects of this entire post. The DM handled it well for someone who had only just started, but the "Answer me or I attack" should have been nipped in the bud with "No, you don't. Your character believes them. Knock it off". And again, it only got this far because neither the OP or DM called the PP out on her behavior. OP just put up with the PP's possessiveness and entitlement when it should have been brought to the DM, who should have told her to knock it off. She literally called OP's character (and possibly by extension, OP) a bigot, and OP just dealt with it. And based on the update I read, the PP wasn't kicked out the group or even really reprimanded or anything. She got to continue playing, even got to kill OP's monster while having this big emotional moment about how she still loved OP's Cthuloid monster. So to recap, the PP claimed to be a victim while demanding another player change their character to suit the PP's desires, got offended when OP decided to play the character he created the way he wanted, accused OP of bigotry, tried to kill OP's character without any justification and received no punishment for it. That's entitlement.

I agree with you whole-heartedly. If the genders were reversed, the situation would have been treated much differently. And the "trying to force a character into a sexuality while claiming you're the oppressed one" is such a bass-ackwards argument. I don't understand people who cry victim while doing the shit they claim they have done to them that makes them oppressed. Hating any sexuality/race/gender is wrong, no matter which side history has fallen on them. Any kind of bigotry is bigotry, any kind of hate is hate, any kind of oppression is oppression. End of story. (Don't oppress people just because they don't fit your idea of a good/perfect person. People are people. Different minds, different lives, different values, but all people underneath. Same genome, same blood and skin and bone. )

@@fruit3626 You are both right and wrong. Yes there are "people who just cant handle rejection" which is sad but expected. However the point where you are wrong is they do not have a voice, no one listens to incels, hell the term is as far as i know also used as a means of dismissing someone and removing any value from whatever they said. However the "you're a bigot if you dont date me" crowd within the LGBT groups has a platform and a voice, can not be dismissed offhand by simply calling them a name(as that is a violation of laws/TOS in most places IRL and online respectively) These are people who get on the front page of youtube, get to write their own articles for news sites like buzzfeed and vanity fair and anyone who argues against the points made is a "Xphobe" or "bigot" simply because they disagree. I do not condone any of group that seeks to force people to date or have relations of ANY kind. Be that incels LGBTs or whatever. That said, you could always do a quick search on this platform and easily confirm the ratio of LGBT to incels implying that only their sexual preference matters and anyone who refuses them is a bigot. I think youd be surprised... and disappointed. Regardless my argument was that this exist within the LGBT community and that I have seen very little pushback. Your argument seems to be something along the lines of "other groups do it too so its normal (ok?). With the secondary argument that "they will get pushback if they go to far" I see no point in discussing the first part of your argument farther. However if you have reason to believe that there is pushback against such attitudes within the LGBT community I would be interested in your reasoning.

She took in game rejection as a rejection of her own person. Something she should probably talk about, but out of character. The only thing that comes close in the story is when the OP said that her character tried to kiss the OP's character. Which depending on how it played out in game could be close to the mark of sexual harassment, but we don't have details of that, and the OP didn't make it sound like she was forcing the issue.

From what OP her character trying to “get in the warlocks pants” didn’t seem to be the problem and I assume she wasn’t being overtly or overly or people would’ve called it out earlier or he would’ve said so. I think if she wanted a Romance with their characters she should’ve asked out of game. The problem was she took it too personally.

The problems only happened when she took her character's desires out of game, and began hardcore metagaming. I know a few - well two one bi and one gay - and they hate the crazies as much as every other normal thinking person) If there is one thing I learned by torturing myself with 3rd wave feminism and what has evolved from that since 2015 is that there is no logic with these people only them being the victim and insulting people as bigots, racists, sexists and every -ist under the sun to get their way or try it as long as neccessary. @Coolostomy Yeah, but the underlying issue here was that the girl was unable to disconnect from her character. She knew that the Warlock was lying, but the Warlock passed his deception check against her character, who failed her insight check. Simply put, the character didn't realize the Warlock was lying. For example, imagine a law student, or a lawyer, playing in a modern setting pretty similar to the real world, but with fantasy elements woven in. The lawyer plays a fighter, and his character has an abysmal knowledge of the law. Therefore, the lawyer shouldn't be allowed to use their knowledge of the law in the game, because their character couldn't know this sort of thing based on their stats. It would break the immersion and take the other players out of the game, and the same happened with that insight check. In the game, when you're playing your character, it doesn't matter what you know, because your character has their own skills, abilities and so on. And if your character fails to realize that someone is lying to them, it doesn't matter if you know they're lying. Your character still believes it, and you should play them accordingly.

@Coolostomy where did you get that the warlock used mind control he used deception and rolled really high showing no signs of lying to the insight check that the sorcerer made. Since the insight check was lower then the deception check there was no reason for the sorcerer to no believe what the warlock was saying other the player metagaming. Yes the sorcerer did know that the warlock casted the spell that they shouldn't have been able to cast but there are many valid reason in game for that to happen depending on the DM rules no mind control was ever used

@Coolostomy"Your Wisdom (Insight) check decides whether you can determine the true intentions of a creature, such as when searching out a lie or predicting someone’s next move. Doing so involves gleaning clues from body language, speech habits, and changes in mannerisms." DnD beyond "Your Charisma (Deception) check determines whether you can convincingly hide the truth, either verbally or through your actions. This deception can encompass everything from misleading others through ambiguity to telling outright lies. Typical situations include trying to fast-talk a guard, con a merchant, earn money through gambling, pass yourself off in a disguise, dull someone's suspicions with false assurances, or maintain a straight face while telling a blatant lie." DnD Beyond This is how those ability checks work its not mind control just like a person in real life being good at lying to the point people believe them isn't mind control

@Coolostomy thats not how that works or what im implying she knew the warlock casted a spell that they normally weren't able to so nothing about that changed what the deception check was is how the warlock knew how they were able to do it in the first place that is what they lied about and that is the thing that the sorcerer wasn't able to pick up on but preceded to not care about the roll and at that point metagame at that point even after the DM ruled that she had no idea how the warlock casted that spell there is no mind control going on that is somthing you made up and the end pard about the bard being a D20 away from doing what ever he wants to you is also wrong and not how that game works

"Your character is a bigot." Or maybe his character is asexual and you're invalidating *their* identity by claiming everyone *must* be bisexual, ever think of that? It actually makes the character seem like a predatory creep for not taking "no" for an answer, and for simply assuming being clingy was the same as quality time or mutual feelings. Speaking as a gay man, it sounds like this person was trying to use their sexuality as a shield, which really makes us look bad; if I hit on a straight guy and he tells me he's straight, that's not bigotry, that's just incompatibility, and it's as valid as me hitting on another gay/bi guy and him telling me he's not interested. "I'm bisexual" doesn't mean "everyone must lust for me", and acting under that assumption plays into harmful stereotypes about bisexuals in the real world.

12:07 - That's more than just not disconnecting from your character - that's actively imposing your own sexuality on other people, it's bigotry. Imagine her in others' shoes; getting into a screaming match with someone else because they're gay and she's offended by that. The only reason that would be less noteworthy and more derisible is because it's more common.

Oof, as a DM I would have shut that down when she kept trying to push sex on a player character, telling her she can't force a player into putting their character into a relationship if they don't want that. This is something I've had to state myself as a player. Being in a very happy relationship IRL, I really have no interest in having pretend relationships knowing it would possibly upset my actual girlfriend. So in my Discord game I've had to make it clear that while my character does have a sexuality (He is a high charisma rogue, after all, and I consider him canonically Bisexual.), he has absolutely no interest in dating 'co-workers', so he won't date any PC. He prefers to keep "business and pleasure" separate. I had to stress this when players started to suggest he had a crush on another PC because he had went way out of his way to save her one time. I explained that their characters are welcome to joke, and think that IC, but that I had to make it clear that I had no interest in a IC relationship.

In this video's example, I would have told a misleading truth - the character is asexual, they wouldn't think of anything for sleeping with a random guy, but also they don't want to ruin their relationship with the Sorceress. Maybe would have ended the same way, but it's easier to throw back "I'm not invalidating your sexuality, you're invalidating my character's."

This is why, when DM'ing, I impose the rule 'banter is fine, but when your character crosses over into romance with another PC, have that conversation with the other player before your character confesses their love'. Same with stealing or building hostilities. If the other player says no, then I, as the DM, rule 'No' to that particular idea. No matter who at the table then joins the discussion on either side, no means no.

This may sound way too grave for a funny-haha DnD video, but attacking someone's moral character when they refuse to do something for you--especially something sexual--is an abuse tactic. @@pulsefel9210 The US Dept. of Justice defines sexual assault as "any nonconsensual sexual act proscribed by Federal, tribal, or State law, including when the victim lacks capacity to consent." This includes if the victim is "threatened, forced, coerced, or manipulated into agreeing," and can involve acts acts other than penetration, such as unwanted touching, kissing, groping, et cetera. Again, your country (or state, even) may define things differently, but in the case of United States federal law, you are incorrect. @@n.l.g.6401 You two are talking at different points. Women are certainly capable of being tried for sexual assault, but unless they penetrate (foreign object, finger, tongue) under the current definition of rape by the justice department, they cant be tried for rape. That is unless the definition has been updated (www.justice.gov/archives/ovw/blog/updated-definition-rape). Thats what I feel what Pulse was trying to express. Rape is sexual assault, but sexual assault is not necessarily rape (www.justice.gov/ovw/sexual-assault) or tried the same way. Please stop bludgeoning people for mispeaking and using silencing tactics like patriarchy because it doesnt help anyone understand the subject you wish to convey. Its just an insult. It doesnt help.

I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt and say at best, she was lashing out for being rejected, getting overly emotional and not realizing her roleplaying ship was one sided. But an LGBTQ person myself, I’ll say that the Sorceress broke “Da Rules”. You do not get to dictate what someone else’s sexuality is. This should even apply to fictional characters, and fantasy settings. Even if you have a progressive setting where nobody cares about sexuality, that doesn’t make every character pan or bi. That’s just stupid. Now, while I’m not excusing her, I do think there was a better way to diffuse the situation. I know he wanted to by cryptic, but he should have given the meta excuse that he doesn’t like to engage in PC romance, only npc romance. PC romances get too real, and the barrier between player and character get blurred.

*TLDR:* Excessive disparity of powers might alienate players unnecessarily. I was once invited to what I thought was a mystery live action, only to realize later I was part of the only subgroup of plain humans amongst nearly all other players being werewolves, vampires, etc. They never gave me a option to create anything other than a human investigator which I later heard them refer specifically as "just food for the others" it sucked. You can easily bolster you should just go with it, but if that is true how would you feel if you were invited to play a first person shooter where everyone have all kinds of rifles but they only *ALLOW* you to use a pistol? Same feeling really.

I guess some people still learn basic rules of D&D: 1. What happens in the game stays in the game, what happens out of the game stays out of the game. 2. A setting's genre named fantasy does not automatically imply sexual fantasy. 3. Neither other players nor their characters are there for you. They have their own free will to run their character as they like, be it a friend, a lover, an indifferent ally, or a traitor. What you want from them is irrelevant (you may negotiate, of course, but their compliance is optional at best). 4. Shipping PCs is only for emotionally mature people (there is no set age, some are mature at 20, others fail at it even it their 60s) who know the difference between PC-romance and RL-romance.
