Would you recommend these books to a nurse? I understand that the scope of practice is limited for nurses but, I would like to be overprepared than underprepared for my first ICU job.

Hello Eddy- I'm thinking about the critical care fellowship. However, I am a little afraid, I will not be good enough. Did you ever go through a period, where you doubt yourself and abilities? Did you have someone who showed you how to do something you weren't to sure of? I keep thinking about the patients and how important it is to save lives.

I was told to pursue CCM by two of my attendings in residency. I replied to both of them that I wasn’t good enough nor smart enough. Their reply was simple “neither was I”. It’s normal to feel that way. It probably isn’t healthy to say “it’s going to be easy or I got this “ when going into something so challenging. I couldn’t be happier that I pushed myself. Best of luck!

I cannot make a suggestion between those books because I have never read them. I will honestly admit, I am a board certified critical care physician who has never even held one of those big expensive text books in my hands. I've learned everything I know from on the job training (residency and fellowship) and looking absolutely everything up. Best of luck!

I should say to read the chapter on whatever patients you’re seeing that day. If someone is intubated with pneumonia, read that chapter. If someone has decompensated cirrhosis, read that chapter. It’ll help it stick in your mind.

Two questions sir You recommend paul marino , can i continue to read it even for ccm exams How do you maitain your cool and calmness
@eddyjoemd
@eddyjoemd 5 жыл бұрын
You can continue to read it but I found the CCM boards to be esoteric on many points (it may also be a reflection of my lack of knowledge). I found the CHEST SEEK questions to be more useful because it’s in question format which works best for me and also covers a lot of the esoteric topics in one form or another. I remain cool and calm because people feed off of your energy and demeanor. If I come in guns blazing and yelling, my staff would react in an apprehensive way and my behavior will detract from their performance, therefore possibly harming the patients. How do I do it? By remaining very cerebral and deliberate in my behaviors, mannerisms. It has taken practice but I try to get better every day. Emotional intelligence is key. Hope that helps!

Is it common to be an intensivist week on/week off and still have a private pulm clinic for the weeks off? Maybe staff it with a PA on the weeks when you are on? Would love to here about business opportunities after completing a PCC fellowship. Thanks!
