Critical Engine of a Multiengine Airplane

Why were the twins not equipped with engines that rotate opposite directions to start with? What's the difference in the engineering a reversed cam grind, a reverse rotation starter and mags , oil pump .How many lives would that have saved?

some do have that, it depends on the model!

@@maxcfi7718 The P38 did have opposite rotating engines which helped roll rates for dog fights.As a kid I always wanted the Sky King Cessna 340 but soon learned how dangerous it could be. Of course I could ever afford it.
