I read Mount Char last year and was really disappointed by it. Your comparison of it to Umbrella Academy feels much more accurate than to Gideon though!! (I haven’t read the Magicians but from what I know of it I think I get what you mean there too.) Also I believe her real name is Seanan McGuire and Mira Grant is the pen name!

I wouldn’t be surprised if Mount Char was inspired by Umbrella Academy since the first volume of the UA comics came out in 2007. When you said “Umbrella Academy”, I paused the video and added it straight to my tbr 🙂‍↕️
