A problem I've noticed with modern filmmaking is object permanence, including meta-objects like plot points, travel times, and character motivations. If it isn't currently on screen, it doesn't matter. "Luke blew up the death star" is the only truth they recognize, because it's all that's on screen in that moment. Even if they recall precursory events, they can't connect them in a chain of causality. They literally can't connect Han helping mere seconds earlier, so more distant contributing actions are totally lost on them. If Vader had successfully destroyed Luke's X-wing, including a reaction shot of Luke's ship exploding, and the film then cut to Luke in his cockpit firing the winning shot, these people wouldn't even notice. We keep accusing them of "key-jangling", but I think it's an incomplete metaphor. It's also like they're playing peek-a-boo.

Guys, it's the horse that gets run through with the flag in The Patriot. Tavington just gets unhorsed with the flag, then stabbed through the neck with the end of a bayonet because he temporarily forgot how to use a sabre and decided to take a javelin-style run up with the world's biggest telegraph of what he was going to do and swing the sword at Mel like it was a damn baseball bat. Huge shame, since he was such a capable villain before that.

I'm gonna hard disagree with "an X-wing is the theoretically max The Force can lift". Yoda wants Luke, his new apprentice, to lift the X-wing. He uses the X-wing as an object lesson that size is irrelevant to The Force and insinuates that there's no difference between lifting the X-wing and lifting the rocks he's been practicing with. So the main limitation is the mentality of the Force user. Also, we've never seen the limits of what Yoda could lift with the Force. Who's to say the X-wing was his max? Unfortunately, The Force isn't a hard magic system (Brandon Sanderson's definition of hard and soft magic). So there's some fungibility in it's capabilities - particularly from user to user because of their individual ability to remove their preconceptions and to properly understand The Force. And their ability to concentrate.
@thorsteinnorman71332 ай бұрын
About Force Powers and where to put their limit: 1) When Yoda lifted the X-Wing he didn't really struggle with it. 2) Anakin was supposed to be the strongest ever in the Force, so, given training, he really should be quite a bit stronger than Yoda (and he did Force Choke someone from the other side of the galaxy). Thinking about that I'd say the Prime Anakin we never got would be able to force pull small spaceships (nowhere near star destroyers though) and X-Wings out of the sky, at least when they're not too far away, but I'd say he's an exception, and that most Force Users should only be able to lift 2 X-Wings at the same time, in close proximity, at the most, even at the height of their powers. 3) I always saw Force Powers as something that required great concentration, and therefore was kept to simple actions, especially during combat. It could be usable to have some kind of Force Healing, etc., but that it was very weak, took a long time, and such (no goddamned reviving the dead!). I think there's a value to there being more Force Powers, much of which is undiscovered, giving different culture different powers, but not anything so powerful that it makes it hard to believe that someone with that power can struggle (like using the Force to enhance one's physical prowess/power/speed/reflexes, but only by a little, and requiring constant concentration, meaning that losing concentration causes the character to lose their advantage). 4) Force Users never really used their powers on each other, so there must be some way for Force Users to protect themselves from each others Powers. I think that must be because they all tap into the same power source, and can channel different amounts of the Force, but that doing that does away with their defense. 5) You could make incredibly powerful characters by just having them use the Force in interesting ways, like Force Pulling on walls and ceilings to stick to them, etc. 6) A way to make Lightsabers powerful, but exclusive to Force Users, could be to make Kyber crystals just the power source for light sabers, but making Jedi have to use the Force to contain it in blade form, with a "Force-Field". This could be another explanation to why Jedi and Sith rarely uses Force Powers in combat, and could even be used to vary the looks and functions of Lightsabers by altering them for different purposes (make them smaller and more daggerlike to make them stronger, or sacrificing power to make them longer, etc.). PS) I'm considering rewriting Star Wars in a more concise way, with more clear and enforced rules, in the form of a book series, comic series or animated series. Anyone got an opinion?

Beverly hills cop 4 or Beverly hills cop Axel F as they've called it 🤢 is awful. I mean truly nostalgia bait awful. Weak story, poor dialogue, tries to be very funny but isn't, boring new characters, the movie looks bland, too much emphasis on silly comedy tone instead of balancing it with a darker edge like the first two had. Its just a poor pale imitation of the first 2 movies but much worse. They tried to shoehorn into the story the well worn estranged daughter set up, just like die hard 4, and it didn't work. Didnt help that the actress was given a script that asked her to be a whiny poor me type with a constipated look on her face throughout, and Kevin Bacon was way too hammy as the bad guy.

Your show has become as tedious as the subject matter it covers. Constant complaining about things most of your audience already ignores. An echo chamber of things repeated ad infinitum. Talk about independent movies and shows that are done well. Critique innovative projects and argue about the merits and failures. Drinker's bar has become the very thing it rails against. A mainstream media repeat of that which we already don't care about. Your not counter culture, your show is a culture vulture.

I watched all of Andor and I thought it was low tier. Take out Skarsgard and the imperial from GOT and the show is trash. The opening sequence is ridiculous with a man begging for his life telling the guy with the gun he will arrest him on a lesser charge. The heist is laughable and once again shows the empire as incompetent. While the rebellion squad is made up of people half of which could never pass as an imperial guard/soldier but oh well. Luckily Andor can do everything they need and he also does all the things they didn’t know they would need him to do. The prison arc starts by a criminal choosing to hide on a party planet that is occupied by the empire. They control it so much they are snatching up innocent people and forcing them into slave labor. The entire court room scene felt like a toddler wrote it. Then the idea the prisoners will simply make their escape with little to no resistance at a facility that is creating the pieces to build the Death Star and all just swim to freedom, is once again laughable. Which leads us to the final arc, which once again makes the empire look incompetent and that godawful speech from his mom like she’s braveheart rallying the troops. Basically the best thing about andor is Skarsgard and the imperial commander both of which are terribly under used. Instead we are forced to follow the plank of wood around on his “adventures” where he is never in any danger cuz we know he survives. Give me the Luthen show and I’m in but Andor is simply the best of Disney Star Wars which makes it the best piece of shit in a dumpster full of shit.

I hated Axel F. The (almost incidental) background plot of drugs smuggled in art is obviously a bad retread of the first movie as is the disappearance of a friend. I thought the casting was questionable, the daughter is pretty much a block of wood and I'm not sure why Joseph Gordon Levitt is there other than everyone else is too old to accompany Eddie Murphy. The worst part for me was the cinematography, everything from choice of shot, camera movement, blocking and scene management were off. Even the lighting and lens filters were badly done. I think the Director's previous experience was in adverts and the director of photography seems to have done small horror films. You can tell. Eddie Murphy I think tries his best but he obviously doesn't have the energy or drive of 30 years ago. Ironically, they do an establishing montage of Beverly Hills but even that seemed to be less characterful than it was in the first films, there's still excess but now it just seems sad.
