12:34 I think birds are great to add to a epic scene because they usually nest/rest at places out of reach for humans. So adding them gives off a sense of "people shouldn't be able to reach this place".

What do you mean, people shouldn't be able to reach this place? People climb Mt. Everest and go to space. Why shouldn't people be able to reach bird flying heights?

I think bringing the camera down to the ground looking up is pretty much THE most important thing for creating scale. Of course, there are Pieces that don't use that, then the Field of View combined with distance from the object can really make a difference. Far distance + small FOV makes such a difference but is really hard to do in drawings, rather than camera photos, so references are great! Incredibly well made explenation! Very nice Video ;] ‎‎‎ ‎‎ ‎‎‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎

Very educational and well made! But I have a question - about your square cube law. “Double the height - quadruple the weight.” Isn’t it 8x the weight? 1x1x1 cube = 1 unit of volume 2x2x2 cube = 8 units of volume Assuming consistent density, and doubling all dimensions, that would be 8x the weight, not 4x. Right?
@Vazgriz
@Vazgriz 3 жыл бұрын
That's correct. It's called the square-cube law because when multiplying size by N, the surface area increases by N^2 and volume by N^3.
@yrussq
@yrussq 2 жыл бұрын
Nope. The fact you double the height does not mean you double the other dimensions. With a ^2 law you have to enlarge the square sides by ~1.4. 1x1x1=1 -> 2x1.4x1.4=4 -> 4x2x2=16

@yrussq
@yrussq 2 жыл бұрын
@@zenleek2129 Do you have a problem with reading or what? I wrote all the calculations above from which you can clearly see the weight is quadrupled. Think in 3d, not 2d. Doubling all of the dimensions has no logical sense. It's ineffective and pointless from architectural and structural point of view. It's not a f#ing Minecraft game)

To be honest I'm not convinced about the overlapping clouds in your picture. I have a sense that the aqueduct is at ~30-40m high which would make the intersecting clouds with the tower at ~100m maximum. That's never a cloud layer hight in clear weather, so I find it overwhelmingly distractive from the rest of the image. I expect a big building but it's not a colossal or epic building that reaches the clouds. I think the problem is with the details. Based on the size of windows on the building, this feels like a ~20 story height where you placed the overlapping clouds. I'm not concept artist, but I'd probably add a similar building in the background far far away maybe on a mountain and intersect that with a cloud. This just looks too much on the flat ground level to make the ~100m cloud / tower intersection believable. The piece itself looks good, just that clouds up close I find a bit strange.

if you still feel bad about your art, most concept art isnt even drawn by the artists, its photoshopped, using real life textures and recolouring and stretching it maybe... professional artists love to keep this a secret and make you feel bad about not being able to make art even comparable to them. no one tells you concept art isnt even had drawn... its just photobashing...

Very nice video! Aaand you've completely missed the most important part which is lighting. Lighting is the main thing that makes us recognize the scale along the gradually washing colors due to atmosphere(not dust), very particular ambient occlusion patterns, scaling detail/light density and scaling details themselves. The last one is the reason your own image do not work that well. Too slow scaling of people, bricks pattern waaay too big, the difference in brick size of the opposite sides of building is insignificant, difference in brick size between the right tower and left tower is insignificant(which shows the distance is relatively small). And the lighting.. Big? Yes. Epic? No. Flock of clouds won't fix it ;) I recommend to check out some Antoine Collignon work - he is one of the very few who gets this right. Without anecdotical flying birds - just with the lighting. Beautiful production and some awesome lessons you have there! Keep it up! Best regards from Russia

some of this was pretty unconvincing: the repetition had no explanation whatsoever, don´t see how it adds anything. the clouds in your example picture didn´t help, especially since they look unrealistic (you have birds flying at least in the same hight if not even higher, wtf?) if proportions are supposed to help make things seem bigger, then i would NOT make the part of the builing i can see already become thinner, in this case it would help to have a repitition to show that there IS aa part to this structure that gets thinner, but the structure in the front of the picture is so big that we do not even have these thinner parts within our frame.
