Sending this to my buddy titled, "How to Hunchback." Also, that cicada you killed was called JonConnor. Congrats, you did what the Terminators never could.

This is my hunchback. There are many like it but this one is mine. My hunchback is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My hunchback, Without me is useless. Without my hunchback I am useless. (I like hunchbacks OK?)

Rush gaming channel I hear ya :) Hunchback is one of the best battlemechs and it can easily drop any assault player who thinks they have the advantage.

Anyone watching this now from 2015 I'll give you some tips on the hunchback. Put ammo in the legs, no one will ever leg you. For the same reason you should take some armour off there if you need weight. With your right torso it's best to put most of the armour in the front and like 4 points in the back because the hitbox on the front is massive. With the left torso you should have twice as much armour in the front as you have in the back. Hunchbacks are not all that fast but they have really good acceleration so stick next to mid range weapon platforms as a body guard of sorts. Finally torso twist. A lot. Ideally you lose your left torso before your right torso from poke (lrms and ppcs). :P

Critical Rocket There is more than 1 hunchback but the general idea of it is that it's a weapon platform. You're there to kill stuff as a brawler so wait for the initial lrm spam and assault rush then come in for the clean up. I personally can't use the ballistic hunchies unless I'm mounting a gauss because my ping makes it impossible to hit stuff. Not the fastest medium but probably the one that can do the most damage.

Chloe Fox Well the Hunchback always fit the role of battlefield executioner, coming in after a 'Mech was softened up and then being dropped by the 4G's AC/20 while the rest of the unit moved to fresher targets. The Gauss version was good against clans since it's rifle allowed it to engage targets around the same distance as clan lasers could but it always suffered from ammunition shortages and couldn't stay on the field as long.

I consider the AC 20 and UAC 20 to be the battlemech equivalent of a .45 ACP smg. Short ranged, but smashes its targets to bits in short order.

The hunchback, the only medium mech that should have an AC20? Look, I get where people are coming from. In the table top, and even a lot of the video games, a medium mech with an AC20 would probably destroy itself. However, I grew up with the video games, not the table top, and its pretty common to find these kinds of impossible combinations. The reason they happen is because the way a real time video game plays out and the way a table top game plays out are two completely different things. Lets just think for a second what would happen to MWO if heavy weapons like AC20s and Gauss rifles were more restrictive. We already have a huge problem with players preferring heavies and assaults, which by itself causes lore problems because in the lore and the tabletop the heavier a mech got the rarer it was to see on the battlefield, in general. If we couldn't put AC20s on mediums and Gauss rifles and PPCs on lights, then I would see the game population being even more heavy/assault washed than it already is. It would also probably cause mechs that can't equip heavy weapons to fall out of favor to the point where all we see are hunchbacks and dire wolfs, and its already kind of like that. Anyway you cut it, sticking to the lore is just toxic for MWO as a video game. Besides, video games in battletech are considered apocryphal so its not like MWO is screwing up the lore that already exists.

+elementface In the early days of MWO the issues we see today never existed because the game was more sim and less casual. Now yeah casual makes more money but it creates these problems like laser boating. PGI try to fix things and it never really went well. Now as far as tabletop goes, yes it's impossible to translate Battletech to a game like MWO, they are too different to translate. My comment about the AC/20 and Hunchback's I think you're jumping to conclusions. It's an opinion firstly, I don't give a crap what people put on their 'mechs since that is the point of MWO. I agree the game isn't striving for any kind of lore specific style it's pretty much just a Battletech skinned robot FPS game. Now this annoys some people, I am not one of them, I understand that MechWarrior has always been about building the most OP thing possible for the weight available. I prefer running the 'mechs stock weapon wise because I like them that way, it isn't a statement to everyone that I demand it be that way :) Now the game will always be heavy and assault focused because let's face it they last longer, carry more weapons and armour and thus get more kills. PGI will likely never fix that unless they somehow make playing lighter 'mechs more rewarding for those people. I also think many people played the games and never even knew what Battletech was, so for a majority MechWarrior has always been about customisation, which works for the clans since that is what they are all about. The inner sphere isn't rigid but in terms of cost and availability of parts, the Inner Sphere have a tougher time customising 'mechs. But PGI would never be able to explain that without causing confusion, as you said people only see a game series and not a tabletop series. I can see a lot of older players leaving MWO for Battletech when it launches since that will be more along the lines of what they wanted (and were originally going to get) with MWO.

Critical Rocket "Now this annoys some people, I am not one of them, I understand that MechWarrior has always been about building the most OP thing possible for the weight available. " I remember somewhere in another video you discussed the issue in a little more detail than just, "This is the only medium that should have an AC/20". I can't remember which video it was, but you described the ability to put things like Gauss and AC20s on mechs that don't feature it in the lore as a fundamental balancing problem in MWO. You then also went on to describe how a medium mech's arms would probably be blown off by an AC20 etc. Sorry if I took your position as being annoyed, but you have at least described it as a balance issue. "PGI will likely never fix that unless they somehow make playing lighter 'mechs more rewarding for those people. " I think making you have to purchase mechs was a way to counter assault washing, but lets face it PGI has no freaking idea what they are doing when it comes to monetizing this game and that solution was destroyed before it even began. Pretty much the only other way it could be fixed is with tonnage restrictions, or if dying in a heavier mech was MUCH more expensive to repair than a light or medium. "I can see a lot of older players leaving MWO for Battletech when it launches since that will be more along the lines of what they wanted (and were originally going to get) with MWO." Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe MWO was always going to be a MW game and not a BT/MechCommander game. I thought MWO was picked up after living legends and was intended to be a spiritual successor to that and MW4. Again, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember any statements by PGI that MWO was going to be turned based. In either case, I see the same thing happening. I think MW fans and BT fans are fans of two different things even though they take place in the same universe. When a MW game like MWO or MW1-4 comes out, all the BattleTech heads whine, and when a MC/turn based MW comes out all the arcade/MW fans whine. Sorry, just rambling at this point.

elementface Addressing the last question, the Battletech comment was referencing the very early gameplay of MWO when it was being sold as a simulator title. If you dig far enough back into the archive or check around reddit you will find the piles of threads of disappointed players who paid into the early backer system for a game that was way more sim like than what we have now. It caused a lot of aggro with the community and the devs and many left. I think there is even a thread on star citizens forums filled with players who backed MWO and then got burned by it. The game was very different back then and had it's own balancing issues but every 'mech felt right I guess and a light was actually useful for it's intended role outside of being a ECM carrier or broken hitbox god :) The second point about the AC/20. I think you're referencing my video about the Jagermech and the then very common dual AC/20 build. I was complaining about that one from a balance stance way before we had the clans. I was just ranting about how the Jager was never built in universe to carry that weapon let alone two of them and since the in universe lore mentions the chassis had issues with stability and joints, the idea this thing had two of them was hilarious. So yeah it's not an issue these days since we have far more hideous builds knocking around. Finally yes PGI have had trouble monetising the game for a long time now. I don't agree with clan packages costing more real money for something that costs more c-bills in universe, the logic is weird. The colours cost way too much for what they are, same goes for patterns.

Critical Rocket There must have been a gap between when MWO (or at least the successor to MW4) was announced and after it came out where things changed. I remember for a while there was a new MW5 trailer, then it was nothing, then living legends and then MWO got announced. In either case, I think this is a good way to talk about MWO as a whole. In my humble opinion, I think MWO is the worst MW game. First is the horrible balancing. For some reason, one shot knockouts are a thing in MWO. Don't get me wrong, they existed in other games, but only under very specific circumstances. Things like B33f's direstar or other crap like that just takes lights and mediums pretty much out of the game. Second, compared to any other MW game, MWO has the smallest chassis selection, the smallest weapon selection, the smallest selection of maps, the smallest selection of missions (or gamemodes), and it also boasts the highest cost. Buying all the mechs in MWO costs *thousands* of dollars which is pure bullshit. 60$ should get you all of the mechs. I've been playing the old MW games and let me tell you, they are 100x more satisfying than MWO will ever be. I'm honestly surprised I spent money on MWO, its just such a ripoff. To me, it seems like there were 5 people at PGI who wanted to make a MW while 15 other people at PGI wanted to make money. What MWO needs to do if it wants to survive is drop the real life prices for mechs (not the c-bill price). At the moment the high price is making people be extremely selective about which mechs they buy, leading to assault washing and only seeing the same 5 chassis in every game. But at this point IDK, I think MWO is horribly designed and represents everything wrong with the F2P and how to do it as horribly as possible. Maybe they'll start thinking about MW5 after BT

elementface All good points that sadly have been raised many times before and no one at PGI really seems to care. I don't blame them for the lack of weapons since you can only work with what you have in period of the universe and for me personally I don't see how adding clan tech for inner sphere forces would fix anything. You may as well patch out inner sphere tech if they do that since no one will use it. I know a lot of people liked MW4 and it's addition of things like heavy lasers and light gauss etc. but that seemed like adding more weapons for the sake of adding weapons with no regard for game mechanics. Untill PGI fix the role warfare situation or at least tone down the alpha striking somehow the game will always be heavily focused on the bigger 'mechs. I agree that somewhere down the line the money people got into development too much and it became a nickle and dime type of F2P title instead of a value focused F2P title. I kind of blame Russ and his misguided belief that MWO will somehow become a e-sports game but I am sure there are many other factors that lead to this approach. All that said I do still enjoy the game. It's fun with friends and it does have some really nice art design and animation. I think MWO does the 'mechs justice (most of the time) and the new maps looks great compared to the old versions. They need to get more maps out quicker though and they could open up to community about making some for them. The biggest test they are facing now is steam. If they succeed there then they don't have to give a shit about the forums, since they will have regular income from steams install base.
