Couldn't get my joysticks to work even though they work through joystick gremlin on mercs. Mercs with mods is so much better and they learned nothing from those mods. And finally, no elementals is completely unforgivable.

As a friend of mine observed, PGI seems to think the fans are idiots, who are so starved for content that they'll buy anything that has "MechWarrior" or "BattleTech" on it.

I will agree with a few points. PVP as a DLC should not have sold. PVP should have been added as free dlc or as a feature update. I also agree that AI needs some work. Keep in mind that most players know how to twist off the incoming damage however. Lab looks like crap but they made it for console players. I think they should have made a different interface for pc as an option at least.

i got Clans at launch, and i was really happy with the story, alot of people have said that the characters are stilted or bland, and i honestly thing it's because of how they were written, to me the game is extremely faithful to the source material, including the characters, their mannerisms, and how they conduct themselves, this is Clan Smoke Jaguar, these are The Clans! fans of BattleTech joke all the time about how the Clans are weird furry weeaboo samurai in space, add on top of that this same group worshiping the in-universe equivalent to George Washington! the Clans are weird, they're meant to be weird, because their founder was the son of the greatest Military General that ever lived, and having to fill those shoes broke something deep and perverse within him! HE MADE THE CLANS WHILE HUFFING COPIUM! that being said, i will admit i was hugely disappointed with the DLC, i was expecting something akin to what was promised all the way back in MechWarrior 2 with the story of all of the invading Clans told, instead we get a weak homage to "Trial of Grievance" and no new 'Mechs, i did notice the lack of obscure OmniMechs, and the IIC's are just straight up gone, while the story to me what one of the few promises PGI got very right IMO, the rest of the game fell flat, i want to love this game, i really do, but instead of a massive kick in the pants like Cyberpunk, Clans was a slow decent into disappointment, and honestly i think that hurts worse than any failed launch, is something you love and want to succeed just slowly dying at the hands of sheer incompetence.

A lot of the mechs you are asking for or new mechs are not possible with this game because many of them do not exist within it's timeline. This game happens in the past when the clans first arrive. Also, some of the other clans had other mechs that were specific to those clans but thier use had not spread to other clans yet.

It was okay, but the issue I have is that you can't keep invading other planets like a mercenary. I thought it would be like Mercenary with the clans, so yeah, it's okay but lacking. I just went back to playing Mercenary.

the game on itself is an okayish story game, but if you compare it to the other recent battletech titles, go get those, you’ll play them more. I‘m in my second run of Clans on the higher difficulty half way and i played for 31 hours. It’s okay, but i wont reach my playtimes of Battletech, 160h, or Mercs, 430h. For each of the DLCs in Mercs i paid 20-30€ and got half the playtime on them, that i got for Clans right now and those are way more replayable. If you are considering getting Mercs or Clans, go for Mercs.

Now that I think of it.....Mechwarrior Online already had a slew of Clan Mechs. What the game should've done was a Trial of Possession, over the non-Smoke Jaguar mechs (e.g. Turkina, Shadowcat, etc). That way, you have to fight Clan-style with Zellbrigen vs difficult enemies (or even PvP) to have the chance to "win" the mech.

I wanted so bad to love this game. But like you said, they did build on it. For what we got with clans, I can't reccomend the game as it currently is. I love what you mentioned about Helldivers - and could honestly imagine something like that being done with MW if done correctly. Think Mercs meets helldivers - possibly with an online component? This is the problem with PGI - they lack the ability to think outside the box. As Russ (CEO of PGI) often says: there just isn't a huge fanbase for MW. I feel the same logic can be said to so many titles. But if they keep releasing products with the bare minimum of standard, with zero innovation and always half baked- how can they expect people to continue paying for scraps?

Everybody hated MechWarrior five mercenaries when it first launched then they added new modes. This one will probably get the same treatment. You’re also wrong and right at the same time the main campaign I quite enjoy. Also the boss fights that’s very innovated. Something unexpected. I found that very interesting and challenging. And As for the new DLC. You’re right about that. No new mechs No new story. Just variants hoard mode and 5vs free-for-all. Just wait for the next new DLC and new campaign if they ever release it.

As someone who doesn't play the game, this series has just been a constant blip of poor showings. I remember Mechwarrior Online having poor impressions back when it launched forever ago for quality reasons. I remember Mechwarrior Mercenaries having poor impressions back when it launched after Online, for epic game store reasons I believe? And now I hear about Clans with poor impressions because of quality reasons. Google tells me that it's been Piranha games all throughout the series, so I think this developer might just be a bad developer. After a certain point, consumers should probably just stop supporting them.

The game has Campaign only unfortunately. And then has paid DLC to have PvP or other items. The game isnt worth it in its current state. Wait for the whole game to come out, then get the bundle. For villains....that kind of is true to Smoke Jaguar. Leo Showers, Pereira Cordez, Lincoln Osis, Paul Moon, et al. This is true to lore, so them being over-the-top genocidal from the Crusader values is at least lore-accurate The dropship fight is the only bossfight that made sense. The VTOLs not so much.

I'm not buying it, probably ever... I'm not even much of a fan of the Clans, I straight up prefer the eras before the Clan invasion, not just in gaming but lore in general. Now that I've also found out they added REALLY silly stuff like bossfights against enemies that could never exist in the system, it's a decision fully made for me, I will never buy this, and rather keep on playing MW5 and HBS Battletech. It would take beyond massive additions for me to be interested. Starting at least with a full, every bit as polished campaign from the perspective of defending against the Clan Invasion.

Oh it is _definitely_ a very flawed game, though I haven't beaten it yet, so I can't say how things develop beyond the third mission on Turtle Bay. But there's another thing that I don't think was given enough attention in the vid; the starmate AI is atrocious and your ability to command them is woefully inadequate for working around it. The third mission is near infeasible without human starmates because of it. It's like PGI learned nothing from how popular the TTRulez and Formation Changer mods are for Mercs. Though as for some of the suggested mechs... - Ebon Jag might've been a little hard to throw in since it was first produced in 3049 but only made its first combat appearance at the Battle of Luthien in 3052 with the 1st Jag Guards, when it would be in the same tier of access as the Hellbringer going by mass (it was built to replace the Hellbringer after all). - Grizzly is a second-line standard battlemech, so not an omni, and I don't think that was happening since they seem to be going only omnis, which is understandable for a premier front-line cluster. - Turkina wasn't produced until 3052, and it was initially exclusive to the Falcons anyway, so it wouldn't make sense, either. - Supernova being a battlemech and not an omni likewise would probably keep that out. That all said, the ones that _could_ feasibly be thrown in if PGI bothered to... - Kingfisher _should_ be in it. One of the older omnis, every Clan would have at least a few. - Battle Cobra also _should_ be in it for much the same reason. - Huntsman would absolutely fit for a Nova Cat DLC since it was exclusive to them for a long time. - Crossbow _should_ be in it, another early gen omni, even if it's mostly the Vipers that used it in Revival. - Ice Ferret would've been another omnimech every Clan would long have gotten some of, and a great alternative to the Shadow Cat. - Woodsman is even older than the Kingfisher, so every Clan would likewise have at least a few. - Lupus was the second omni ever made, so everyone will also have a few somewhere in storage, albeit probably not a great ride to choose, so probably not worth it. So that's another 5 mechs the Jags could've had for the campaign, 6 if we want to fudge things so that the Jags snagged one of the very few Huntsmans gotten off the Cats via salvage.

I’ve put in around 150 hours into the game now. I can safely say that it’s not worth the price its asking for. I do recommend the game only after the price drops. I brought it as a preorder release along with the extra bonus content. It wasn’t worth it. Story was far more present than seen in Mercenaries as you actively take part in major turning events of the Clan Invasion of the Inner Sphere and meet/listen to prominent characters talking. The theme of it is very regimental whilst in the battle room but more somber in the barracks with our main cast. The two clashing styles can be distracting where it shows the fierce aggression of Smoke Jaguar amongst the senior officers, but then a more meek, vulnerable and even naive side from our main characters. I get they are green cadets and all, but I didn’t feel they belonged in the group altogether. All of them acted far more like Spheroids than Clanners. It pulled me out of the experience more times than not. Second, the presentation of the characters are horrendous. Especially when it comes to lipsyncing. It’s way too puppet like and overly exaggerated. IllKhan Showers is a prime example of a extremely over blown performance. His face contorts and stretches way beyond what’s necessary, even when speaking softly it looks like he’s meant to be shouting. Another is saKhan Wimmer. Her face becomes malleable like play dough. None of the main cast look great and some share the exact same face and only have small differences to differentiate between them, those being Liam, Jayden and Mia. Whenever they are onscreen it’s like I’m seeing the same person three times. It’s not a good look. The mechs and environments however are stunning, which is good as they are the main reason we brought the game so no complaints. Overall though, this feels less like a complete game and more like a over bloated dlc which got turned into a full priced game. The missions are lengthy and are challenging, but no more challenging than the level 100 missions from Mercenaries. The small amount of available mechs is what kills it for me. Sure, they are being “lore accurate” in terms of what the Inner Sphere documented when the Clans initially invaded, but why not have the clan versions of the inner sphere mechs available for us to play with? Having only 30 mechs from the 60+ from Mercs plus their variants is a huge setback. In conclusion, get the game at a discount. Not at full price. Not worth the money to play only a handful of missions with your favourite Timber Wolf.

Haven’t played the game, but watched plenty of videos. Would like to see added; - mechs falling over from heavy damage - mechs tripping on rough terrain - kick attacks - crouching - ejection and running on foot - dropships landing, and entering the mech bays to end a mission - open flat terrain. Every map seems to be in box canyons. - your Star Captain. Where is he/her? - tabletop Star formation dictating the types of missions you do (recon, striker, battle etc) - Your Star Captain assigning limited mech availability based on your Star Formation - Classic mech models. Or CGL mech models - Elemental support - drop all the science caste stuff - Other stars in your Trinary assisting in harder missions instead of having to use auto-repair bays - interaction with the Holo-map before a mission where you can plan where you enter/drop - Zelbriggen targeting for Clan opponents - retreat and flee combat as a mission option.

You get almost all of that from Mechwarrior: Living Legends, released back in 2008. People still play it Today and it's still getting patches with new mechs/features! I was a Level Designer for them and made or completed over half the Original Levels for the Game (I've retired from that project for about a decade now though- wish I had the time though!). People still play it Today! It's mostly old Pros and it's really hard to get into for new folks since you'll get whooped a lot as you learn. There's a lot less People playing these Days too, but there's almost always a server or two with People on it. You can play as anything- Elemental, Tanker (even Long Toms!), Fly the actual Planes that behaved like planes (slower than RL for gameplay reasons), and the VTOLS too- of course you get the Mechs as well and there is a lot of them. That game is more successful than this is- 15 Years old if I did my quick head-math correctly. MW:LL is the reason they even considered making MW:O- they were Deving MW5 at the time. They pretty much copied our game, but Mechs only. Our lead was the Person that sold the rights for CryEngine to Piranha (he worked for Crytek). They had us shut down our Team, but the community revived it which is kinda amazing on its own. I could go on but this is just a reply to a YT comment. If not for us, MW:O would not exist.

I was really hoping they would have added the Clans into MW5:Mercs in the same way they did in MW2:Mercs. Having to face the sudden and deadly clan invasion as an IS Merc company was a memorable time that I would love to go back too. Hell they could have worked on allowing you to control a whole company instead of just a lance. Even with Clans the way it is, why only the SJs? Why not allow us to choose an invading clan and world hop down like in Mercs? Each clan had interesting battles that you could have been a part of. This is just such a missed opportunity to me once again, by a company that does not care again the IP.

So the large patch sizes are because of the Unreal Engine and that is in general, not just with UE5, when you patch an Unreal game it could only be 200 megs of data but if it effects 24 gigs worth of various files it has to unpack them, patch them then pack them back up, it is not actually having to download 24 gigs. PGI have stated multiple times via various people (Russ Bullock and Chris Lowrey) that mod tools are on the way, and honestly there's no reason to not expect them. I personally really enjoyed Clans and I was able to bring in a few other friends who have only played MW5: Mercenaries prior and they've had a similar experience. The game is not perfect but I have more than got my monies worth. The boss VTOLS and Dropships I personally had no problem with as they tend to have big glaring weak spots that the game illuminates, and in fairness it's not a new thing for a MechWarrior game, as I remember having to take down Dropship bosses in MW4 and pretty sure there was something similar in MW3 and its expansion pack. And I will say, and I'm probably in the minority, it is nice to have a game that isn't just yet another forever game. Clans to me was a solid 30 hour experience, which is by no means short and anyone (not you, Rocket) claiming it as such is being a little ridiculous, so it is nice to finish it and come back to it at a later date with more DLC. That said a New Game+ would be nice and as far as I know via Russ, that'll be the case next year. Story wise I find the depiction of Smoke Jaguar to be rather good, they're loyal to Nicholas Kerensky's vision afterall so if you were expecting slaving psychopaths you should perhaps remember that that likening was from an Inner Sphere perspective, and at that point all Smoke Jaguar were was the proverbial whipping boy that was already determined to be destroyed and had that point worked back from. I find this games characterisation to be quite in line with Pardoe's Smoke Jaguar character, Paul Moon. I realise this probably comes across as me trying to refute everything in the video point by point and if so, just know that is not the intention. At the end of the day I applaud anyone for being a discerning customer and it is always good to see, I just disagree on a few points overall. Sorry for your loss, Rocket, and as always thank you for your videos.

I agree about the nice to not have another forever game, I'm playing through it slow in bits and pieces and am enjoying myself, I think by the time I get to the end I will be satisfied but not really be hungry for a ng+ or anything else. I do appreciate that mw5 mercs has the Career Forever mode because I always wished mw4 mercs had it, You get that mercenary company all built up and then it just ends on ya haha but clans isn't that mercenary story that could just go on and on, it is linear, and it's been told before, but this time we get to play it. It's not perfect but I'm not mad about what I bought.

I had real questions before this game came out. Will it be broken at launch? Will the AI still be garbage? Is it limited in the release platforms? Will they get the portrayal of the main character faction to feel authentic? Will missions involve endless waves of enemies instead of strategic encounters or smart, creative level design? And then PGI made another PGI game. I hated the commentary around it at launch. Pure praise for things I wasn't concerned with and complete silence on those things I didn't like about MW5:Mercs. You nailed everything in this review. The most telling is the current player base. The game is dead already. I sub to a lot of Battletech channels and almost no one is still making vids on it. Thank you for sharing your review of the game in such a concise and well thought out manner.

I know it's not the most asked for thing at the minute but i would love a up to date pvp mechwarrior game for all platforms, mwo is old and is struggling for player retention, we need something fresh and available for all platforms, other games such as war thunder and world of tanks were games never built for consoles but we got them anyway, my dream is to pilot a marauder 2 in pvp because its my favourite mech out of any Sci fi, and if they did it right they know they would make bank because the only other mech game we have at the minute is armored core but anime style mechs with laser swords and moving superfast just isn't my cup of tea, I would love to hear your opinion on this as I've watched your mwo videos for years and really dig the game but I don't want to buy a pc for the sake of 1 free game. The DLC was abysmal... pushed out around a month after release, on top of being a tiny update, makes it just seem like it was cut content that was later sold. Then you look at how small it is, being two mediocre gametypes that should have been given out for free and tied into the story somehow. "Hey recruit, this next mission is going to be tough, go get some time in the simpod, see if you can top the Galaxy Commander's score." something like that would have been great, but instead it gives you nothing apart from a bit of mech experience that you quickly max and don't need anyways. Not to mention the issues with the DLC either, while playing alone sometimes that AI would just become unresponsive and take no orders, or when using the repair bay your controls may just lock up and be unable to do anything... compare what you got with this DLC to what was offered from any of the Mercs DLC's and you can see what a joke it is for the same price. This one wouldn't even cover what you got for free over there, let alone all you got after paying the same price. The gamemodes should have been offered for free and maybe give the hero variants as a small $5 optional add-on pack people could buy if they wanted. I wouldn't be shocked if that would have given them around the same revenue and would have saved a lot of face with how things went down on what they released.
