I mean, yes. As people said, they loathed Umbridge because she was the believable villain (as opposed to Voldemort the fictional villain.) That being said, she’s more a symptom of the beaurocratic horror villain Third Person talked about in the Season 1 roundtable.

It’s incredible that they take someone like Weepe who returned people to slavery for money and make you feel sympathetic for him as he is initially showed to still be human (caring about those stuck on Midst) and they make you worried for him as Imelda obviously has something nefarious planned. Then over the course of the episode Weepe realizes he has what he’s always wanted and loses that last bit of humanity as he embraces getting mani pedi. Truly amazing on the part of Third Person.

The track behind Imelda's assertion that general society need not know about Midst, the goal being to maintain the status quo and that all will fall into place, has this hypnotic quality to it. That if we just let it lull us into this false calm, we might be at peace too. Shivers I say shivers! Also that last line! “What does [a mani-pedi] taste like?” is such a genius bit of comedy, and illustrates further how out of depth Weepe is. Well done!

My favorite episode of many very happy episodes so far. The quiet panic of not knowing how your surroundings work, and that somehow through your own actions, with an inordinate amount of luck, everything seems to be going your way… there is a wonderful, subtle wrong-ness about everything. Also the ding AWHOOGA made me laugh

Its kind of interesting to remember the first instance when Weepe met Imelda and they had achieve other in a polite death grip walking down Stationary Hill, with Weepe realising he could manipulate to his advantage, and now Imelda has Weepe absorbed into the Un society and she’s dragging him out for brunch with a side of gaslighting. Its been a wild ride.

This whole episode had the feeling of an impending "And then the other shoe dropped". Like as the highest upper trust native to midst he's the scapegoat or something. There's obviously a reason Imelda bothered saving him, and is spending so much time with him during a crisis of finance. On another note, the idea of a bevy of similar notaries as Imelda having their own little group is terrifying.

10:51 Quick poll here: What's everyone's basic conception of a bocular horse? I'll go first: I'm picturing a carriage - not unlike a Victorian horse-and-buggy, albeit without the horse, and, of course, articulated legs instead of wheels. Naturally the ostentation and ornateness of the carriage would scale up with social status.

21:41 So The Trust is Capitalism only in this world it says all the quiet parts out loud... Valor is Wealth, but it's not Money, because it can't be spent on anything. It doesn't need to be. Those who already have it want for nothing because the act of having it motivates others who don't have it to serve them in the hopes that one day they might have it too. It only exists to accrue. Caenum is Debt, and just like in real Capitalism Debt is a feature not a bug. Those who have it are exploited for their labour while being strung along by a vague promise that if they work hard and don't question the system then one day they might be Valorous themselves and reap the rewards... only if that actually held true for most people the system would collapse without enough labour to support the Bourgoisie. Some limited social mobility may exist, but only as much as the already-Valourous feel like they have to allow to keep the rest of the Proletariat believeing that the system is fair. ... You know on balance, I think I'd like to go back to the Tearror Cave from last week. This is much scarier.

@@Migolcow What about that makes you think automaton? I’m genuinely curious, because I just don’t see it. I’m pretty sure it’s just a woman facing away from us with a Valor necklace.

I think they'd prefer to call it indentured servitude.

The “we don’t have prisons” talk gives me “corrupted restorative justice” vibes. I don’t like it.

Sooo literally indentured servitude that they will never fully get out of and keeping the populace in ignorance. This is getting so dystopian and I dislike Imelda immensely. But this story is soooo good.

Huh. Interesting... Does the Un not have any meat or animal products? Seems like everything is all greenery this, salad that, when we've seen meats back on Midst and such. Very curious if it's not even remotely worth the effort to have that here in the Un... or maybe greens are seen as more upper class because there's very little usable land to grow crops. Also the fact that she said that Sherman got all the medical help he 'needed' makes me very uncomfortable. In the eyes of the trust, the amount of help he needed might not have been much, and he's likely still injured somewhere.
