When Fjord was like “we’re going to jail” last episode I was like wtf are you talking about? They did almost nothing wrong. They were assigned to go after Obann, the orphan maker being with them was just an unfortunate coincidence and it’s not like it changed or helped his plans much.

I find that honesty actually gets you really far in most places. A lot of people are tempted to lie to make themselves look better but I’ve found that being completely honest actually gives you a profound level of respect. Whether or not lying is moral aside, honesty is actually a pretty savvy tactic in dnd because most people don’t expect it. I think Cad knows that really well and Tal does a great job of exemplifying that in his play style.

And then, annoyingly, the entire party spends the next 35 episodes ranting about how the traveler is a terrible cult-god for wanting a volcano party, despite the fact that it was JESTERS idea. I get really irritated that everyone loves to hate the Traveler in this campaign. He seems like a genuinely good guy, or at least, that he genuinely cares about Jester, but the rest of the cast, and EVERY fucking person in the twitch chat goes off about how he's "manipulative" and how he's "abusing Jester." It's like the entire Critical Role fanclub learned the word "gaslighting" around when episode 90 came out, and they try to use it at EVERY opportunity, despite the fact that there has been no fucking gaslighting in this campaign. Not even Beau's father is gaslighting her. People just love to use the word "gaslighting" to mean any time two people disagree, and one is of higher status or power. If a parent and a child disagree and have an argument? The parent MUST be gaslighting the child, because of COURSE the child is always right about everything! Jester and the Traveler disagree? He's gaslighting her because our sweet Jester could NEVER be wrong about ANYTHING! There couldn't just be a simple misunderstanding that traveler is trying to clear up, no no no! It must be that Jester is objectively correct, and the Traveler is trying to trick her! It can't be that Beau and her father just don't see eye to eye, and that her father does love her, but he's terrible at dealing with conflict, and she's blinded by her own hate for him! No way! He must be a heartless bastard that wants to psychologically tear her apart! Beau could never be in the wrong! It's all very tiring.

As for the Laughing Hand the main chance they had to stop it was back at the potions dealer in Rossanna. They kind of blew it but it wasn't really their fault because if they had been there at all, the plot definitely would have succeeded.

Agreed. I see no action of theirs that Oban couldn't have done on his own. They tried stopping him, but he was too powerful (well, Matt's dice are) to be prevented. They took out two henchmen, revealed the plot to the BQ, killed Oban (if temporary), gathered intel on the Laughing Hand; by their actions several barriers were put into place to slow his escape, and the BQ was notified as soon as possible. Luck aside, the only thing they perhaps should have done, was to zone-of-truth Yasha to make sure she wasn't hiding any knowledge. Which presumably wouldn't have helped, but it was worth doing. But I think they mainly feel guilty about leaving Yasha behind. Especially Fjord was brutalized by "the creature is not willing". I think especially he is transferring that guilt on the rest of the affair. Hence Cadeucus and Caleb, who are generally level-minded, aren't as troubled, while Jester and Fjord (who directly tried and failed, and who already are more feels-based, are hit worst.

Among the array of emotions Jester showed this episode, it was AWESOME, seeing her being mad and frustrated with the group's thoughts toward Yasha.

It kinda breaks my heart that Nott and Caleb no longer have the same relationship they once did. I'm not saying I didn't expect it to *ever* change...but she didn't even ask if he was okay during/after that intense encounter with the Scourger. Nor did she even batt an eyelid when he returned after like 45 minutes of being by himself. If this was back in the day, Nott would've immediately gone to console Caleb upon seeing him hyper-fuckin-ventilating against a wall, and would have followed him when he separated from the group. And that awkward af ending with the tea and the whiskey...ahhhh! I miss what they used to be...and I can only hope they find a new way to reconnect in episodes to come : (

SpaceCowboy Eddie ohmygod good to hear, but I do love that that their relationship doesn’t stay stagnant, it evolves and changes. Having Yeza back is HUGE for both of them. Nott was too dependent on Caleb, unhealthily so. this way they can grow as people and then grow closer together. Not that I doubted Liam and Sam they are amazing at portraying their characters and bringing every aspect of them on display. This awkward phase is part of it. But I can’t stay it’s not breaking my heart a bit...

I just realized some thing. Fjord is hung up on in the first half hour about "releasing a great evil" .. my new theory at second watch threw is, its his personal hang up about ukatoa, a greater evil he almost unleashed and did help break 2 chains of its enchanted prison. So its a Freudian slip deal. I think.. maybe. The guilt of that misplaced on to the laughing hand and losing Yasha :(

Yeah I thought that was pretty cool. My favorite formatting was the one they used before this one with the real time written notes and the hp tracking, but this is definitely one advantage to this format that none of the others had.

I love that nobody else has any clue, but Matt just happened to look at the right moment. Once they made eye contact they lost it. Took me a while to figure out how that even happened. At 50:57 he tries again and successfully gets his hand into the cup of nuts (or something) we has hiding directly behind his drink 😄
