Fstoppers I think you should do the highest rated image at the end of the critique, not at the beginning. It automatically puts you in a mind-state that possibly the only photos you see will be worse than the first one you viewed. Think there should be no bias, or unnecessary comparisons. My two cents.

I love these. Its basically a session on how to take better photos and what great photographers do/would do and what they look for.

Thanks for choosing my Soumaya Museum photo (9.43’). It was taken 2 years ago in Mexico, although I am from Peru. It was a business trip and it was the only photo I could make during this very short trip. My second photo was not chosen for critique, but received a high rate from the community as well. Thank you all.

I so appreciate the back-and-forth banter that explains your thought process when deciding what works or doesn't work in each image. It's so important to, not only study how to make a great image, but also what makes a bad image.

To me the image at 17:36 is an obvious take on M. C. Escher's pen and ink work in real life. I thought it very cool!!!

I was thinking of Escher's "Relativity" immediately. Which is a lithograph print. I also loved it!

There was a door at the far end of that last room, so having it propped open would have been pretty neat. You could also crop off the left and bottom quarters and make it a bit better.

Curious if you weight the scoring. Some people might go in and give the better photos 1 star because they think it will help their own photo rank higher and that could explain why the voting seems so tough. And no, I've never submitted, or voted.

Personally, that was one of my favourite shots, i feel having it in colour would make the image too busy with all the colours, but the depth of tones you captured was fantastic!!

@JayoJay Well, as I'm living literally next to that building, I can tell you it's basically completely white anyway (floors, stairs, shelves, are all painted white), so the only colors you'd get is from the books itself and the people, which can be quite pleasing, as for example here: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stadtbibliothek_Stuttgart_-_2018_(43122237772).jpg

For photo #20, I believe the softness was achieved in post using "The Orton Effect", in which you make a duplicate layer to the sharp image in photoshop, blur it, and slightly blend it in with the photo (the one of the house from the patio with the nice sky). Thoughts?

I'm wondering, does symmetry not come up as a thing for you guys? Especially in architecture. Several of the images (that were rated quite high) i would really love, but some are just shifted slightly off the center so my brain ends up in this infinite loop of trying to lean to the side to correct the angle, but of course you can't do that with an image. Like that hotel building in yellow tones. Or the Abu Dhabi building, the columns on the left and right aren't shown equally.

I agree, and I think it's funny that Mike is rating them based on "Architecture Photography," which is the stated objective, and Lee is rating them like they're photos on a Motel 6 website. In what world does "this photo would make me want to book this on airbnb" bear any weight on the topic of architectural photography? Not that Lee isn't making valid points, I just feel like they're rating two totally different things. Like if you enter a hot dog in a rib cook-off, it could be the best hot dog ever made, but you shouldn't give it a 5, because it's not ribs! LoL
