I've always viewed hs:au as a supplement to homestuck as a whole. The fact that you love homestuck enough to even have the passion to make something like this is a testament to your own passion.

i think the thoughts about commitment and how homestuck was made is inspiring. its like the dna of homestuck is more about commitment to writing rather than the skill of it. homestuck basically proves that if you put the work in, you can make something of value to people even if it is trashy.

As someone who simply could not get into Homestuck for years due to so many things in the webcomic just flying over my head, the audiodrama format and other changes you've made have helped me see why people fell in love with Homestuck in the first place. It's not a perfect story, it never was. But I don't think there's any other way I would like to engage with this story, so for as long as you can, please keep it up!

I absolutely love what you have made with HSAU! Iv been a huge HS fan for years and your work adapting this actually made it able for me to get my 55 year old dad to enjoy HS with me! You were also able to put into words how I felt transitioning and June's story has been really empowering for me personally. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Oh my issue with the ages is much more petty. 100% happy with the 4 kids being aged up to 18, I just think the game should’ve released on 4/18 to reflect that now. The arc number is tied to how old they are. Though after listening to this and seeing how much people hate the small things you changed I can see that people would *really* hate the entire arc number changing. is that why you didn’t?

I have other numerical reasons for liking 4/13 as will become clear later

i think the best way to put into words my feeling regarding your Homestuck re-write, is to explain that Homestuck as a series has such incredibly vast amounts of worldbuilding that seems to really fumble over itself at times, never knowing what element of the story to really showcase primarily. this in my opinion, is why homestuck is so divisive. your retelling and re imagining of the events of the story have been the strongest example ive seen yet of someone with a CLEAR artistic vision has their hands on a project, i dont know where you plan to go with the story but know that i eagerly await each new episode. my favorite "new" element definitely has to be some of the entirely original characters, i did not expect in a million years to be so devastated when a kid named "Chad Buskin" meets their demise but i was, and i found his conversation with Lord English to be so enthralling. Casper was also a wonderful if short lived character, point is even when you take more bold artistic strokes and deviate further from the source material, you do it well. i look forward to future episodes and whatever other projects you may have in store

You are doing some great thing with the Alt universe, its so different, but its a fresh take on the story that allows one to go in other directions and be creative, while paying homage to material they like and that influenced them. If you want to change a character in their personality slightly to balance things to get where you wish to go, then it works, You're not changing the very core of the character, just giving it your own unique flavor. Sorry for rambling as I have.

I've read Homestuck I think 3 times, and have probably thought about it at least once a day for years. HSAU is a nice way to get another read in. That read may be a few hours of video a month, but it's still pleasant to re-tread the story, because reading Homestuck is something I like doing.

FR tho this is a really cool lookback and i’m glad you made this retrospective. It’s so wild and cool that we’re three years out from a really fun podcast project and i’m really proud to be a part of this project. I love coming home and going “OKAY MY LOVELY ROOMMATES WHO HAVEN’T READ HOMESTUCK LET’S LISTEN TO AN AUDIO DRAMA” and they think it’s funny and fun to engage with. I like holding a thing that’s meant so much to me for so long and considering what was really meaningful to me about it and making new stuff to show how much i love it. This project means a lot. I’m glad we’re all working on it and i’m INCREDIBLY grateful for all your work on it.

straight up, june egbert is easily my favorite thing you've added into the rewrite. any critique i have about the work is completely not about june at all, because it's straight up a good choice to make her arc a coming out story. I like it when you take creative liberties and make major changes like that tbh.

I really like HSAU, my only criticism I've ever honestly had is the odd spelling or word choice mistake, stuff like Skaia and Prospit getting switched around when Jack is blowing things up. The actual writing of the characters and their performances, though? 10/10, TOP TIER Homestuck content. 100% HSAU is just a _better_ Homestuck.

Based on how Fuck Mcguffin writes characters im really interested to see how the Alpha Kids will be written. The feelings I have towards the alpha kids are that half of them I really enjoy (Dirk Roxy) and half of them I found absolutely insufferable (Jane, ESPECIALLY JAKE). I wonder what direction they’ll be taken in.

I think you are vastly underselling Homestuck's quality as an actual story. The first 5 acts are genuinely ingenious experiments in nonlinear story structure and Hussie's talent for writing instantly memorable and entertaining characters and dialogue is nearly unmatched in the fandom imo like it has issues but this idea that it's nothing more than a garbage bin of toys for the fandom to play with is nonsense and certainly doesn't sound like the mentality of a fan

If this is the impression I gave this video was a failure. What I mean is that the whole story while good has some mistakes and errors and missteps because of its nature as a first draft. When you write something like Hussie did there are some things that get left behind like lore about the kids land as well as inventory mechanics and dropped story threads. Homestuck has many good qualities but if you compare it to other works these flaws exist and they're easy to come along and see. I like Homestuck, am I not allowed to spot parts that I don't like?

As a trans woman, I've found your depiction of June to be VERY unappealing. For one, John's dream self already being a woman, to the knowledge of all of prospit is deeply upsetting as a form of cosmic outing. And it's extremely upsetting to me how June never really makes any decisions on her transition alone. Everyone around June just already knows she's totally trans and it's obvious, and when they constantly pester John to transition he seems totally clueless and then just goes along with whatever everyone is telling him. This is bad representation. It might be funny, the classic meme of "hehe little egg boy doesn't get it yet." But gender identity is something that you develop on your own, through agency and introspection. Support can be helpful, and some people might need more encouragement than others, but that is not what you have depicted. Additionally, representing one of your critics as donald trump AS WELL AS Caliborn, going as far as to add additional wording to the text to sound more transphobic than it is, is deeply bad faith representation of criticism. Even if the comment itself wasn't particularly constructive, your reaction is immature and highly bad faith, if not somewhat slanderous. I would also like to say that it is HIGHLY disrespectful to just... decide? That Hussie wanted nothing to do with Homestuck beyond some undefined point and was half-assing the story. Hussie gave years of their life to that story, putting most of their time into it and going on record to call it a lifestyle. Would Hussie pay for Hiveswap's development out of pocket and continue the story through the epilogues, despite backlash and personal financial strain if he DIDN'T care for the story? What's more, can you REALLY claim that Homestuck is inferior to all fan projects due to it being a "first draft" when you yourself have admitted to not writing a second draft for this project? (And by the way, it shows.) HS:AU is not a more focused and detailed version of what you consider to be a raw, unrefined source material. In fact, it fails as both a supplement AND a replacement for the original. The story can't seem to decide if it wants to leave out minor details that someone who already read homestuck knows, leaving new listeners clueless, or if it wants to bombard a new listener with an extended exposition of mechanics that would leave them confused or existing homestucks fucking BORED. I've been watching this series from the start, and there is so much more I can say. For one, you really need to re-examine the way you write female characters. Mom Lalonde spent most of her time with the guardians just eye-rolling and being like "ugh, silly boys teehee!" The idea to manipulate the stock exchange was all Dave, no input or planning from Terezi. Rose had her personality changed from a witty, yet silly, yet refined girl into a relentlessly mean person who I struggle to believe even considers the others her friends. June's moment of self-realisation causing her to wake up on Prospit is caused by her giving in to what other people think about her, and at the very moment she "comes out" she immediately gets abandoned by the spotlight. I don't know if you're going to even read this. You have an extremely uncritical audience here in the comments, and it'd be easy to just discard my words or put them in AI ben shapiro's mouth and then binge on your praise. There's far, far more I can say about HS:AU, but frankly I stopped making notes a while ago. But I'll finish with a comment on your descriptions. Credit the appropriate voice actors for the right roles in your video descriptions, and if every transcript link is going to be "TBA" for over a year, you might need to decide on if you wanna remove a redundant line or actually work on delivering transcripts for those who need them.

First of all thank you for your comment. I'll address everything one by one because this comment made gave me a great deal of pause. First and foremost the June stuff. The idea of "cosmic outing" is certainly very distressing and not what I intended in the least. What I intended and what I hope most readers picked up is that I wanted to show Prospit June as an "inner" version of herself that she eventually grows into. It is simple wish fulfilment- what if you could simple BE the person you want. This was my intent as someone who cannot myself transition publicly. As for Hussie deciding not to be involved, I think we have a different view of Hussie's involvement. I can't see into Hussie's brain, no one can. Maybe I am attributing something to someone I know nothing about. I see what I see based on the facts I have. Next you mention the writing of women. I think saying Mom just spends her time "teeheeing" is alarming- my intention was to have her be made miserable by Jacob belittling her. As for Dave thinking of the stock exchange stuff- there's more written about Terezi helping and coaching him through that. She says she will act as his lawyer, his partner. Your critique seems in bad faith, but if I've failed to make compelling women, I want to bring certain things back to the drawing board. As for the final critique about metadata- I actually agree. Something I am constantly upset with myself about is that I have not updated a lot of the AO3 transcripts or metadata that is outdated. You're right that that sucks for people who can't or don't want to listen to the work. As for the VAs they usually let me know when something is credited incorrectly and I do my best to fix it. It takes more work than I expected. Finally, thanks again for the comment. You seem to care about HSAU at least somewhat and you took the time to write this. I dont know if HSAU will ever be something that you enjoy, but even if I put someone's critique in a silly voice I try to gain something constructive from it. You're holding my work to a high standard and I hope it makes future episodes better. Thank you very much. I'm only one person. At least 2 people liked your comment and you seem to care about the project so felt like I should reply. Sorry if this is lame lol

Minor correction on June, she was not a result of the toblerone wish, Hussie already had the transition planned and simply revealed it earlier than intended because the wish aligned with it.

Repeat after me funk I have no talent Hussie has all the talent. If I'm lucky, some of Mr. Hussies talent will rub off on me. Hussie is a creative genius who created generation defining work. While you at best could be a community college creative writing professor. From watching your rewriting Homestuck podcast and some of the au it's clear your analytical skills are more developed than your creativity.
