I bought mine because I wanted something that looked like a traditional trade axe, had a roundish handle I could craft myself if needed, and was made of “modern” materials and design.

I bought the Woods Chogan because of how it looks. I found it too heavy for me and cut the hammer head off, but that still didn’t do it for me. I have the Kangee and really like it a lot.

I think your review is probably the most appropriate one out there. Nice work. I own all of them as well. Is the Nobo a good cutting/chopping instrument? Sure. Does it combine the advantages of a tomahawk, and a small axe? Sort of, kinda, maybe, but not really. Can it truly replace either of those? Depending on the use/need, not really, but maybe. Does it look the part? Certainly. I think that's both the Nobo's advantage and disadvantage. It doesn't quite know what it is. Oh, it can still be a very useful tool, definitely. However, as you said, for the money, better options exist in the tomahawk or axe area. Yet, given the look it has, it's lighter weight than many similar axes, and it's more easily replaced handle, it does give some real advantages. Then again, those good points come with real trade offs. Great review.

I have two Chogan's. I bought one than someone gave me one for a birthday gift. Haven't seen the Nobo one before. I really like the way it looks. Someone told me to just cut the hammer off one of my Chogan's but really don't want to. I would rather just order me one of these instead. May sell or give one of the Chogan's away as a gift. Really nice review and enjoyed it.

Having an extra Chogan is a good problem to have. Glad you enjoyed the review!

Definitely didn’t know you had “all” of them. I’ll have to check out the other reviews you did. If you had to choose, which is your favorite (for an all around camp tool)?

Of the CRKT axes/tomahawks, I think the Woods Chogan is the best all-around, usable tool.

Usually, RJ will give insights into why he designs the tools he makes. Apparently, he made this to make sure he had plenty of firewood. That's it. No request from a SF group. Just a "traditionally modeled two-handed camp axe... will make your life easier when you're off the grid." Sure. At least it looks cool.
