Same - 3 times cancer warrior. Very happy you are in remission as well. Chemo is tough, very tough but I often find those who have been through that are the strong, silent warriors who don’t constantly play victim. It’s 2025. We have had enough of these woke, poor me, constant victims. Seems America actually has “woke up” under the new administration. Now I just need the same to happen here in the UK. Those i know (family, friends, partner, loved ones) who have literally had to deal with shocking events/illness etc are the ones who don’t complain, moan, play victim. They are the ones who help others (even to their detriment sometimes), who are always kind, quietly do charity & always make those around them smile. They listen when others, even strangers, need to be heard. They make sure to drop everything when needed by someone in their life. The very opposite of huggy & druggy (thank you Taz - I believe, not HG) for that moniker. Sorry, long message but it’s a bad pain day so I tend to ramble on lol

Charles Spencer denied Diana, Princess of Wales, numerous times when she asked to stay in one of the many houses on the Althorp estate after the divorce. He denied her over and over again even when she begged him. He said it would bring too much attention" to the estate. As you would say what a load of bullocks since he buried her there. He basically said he wanted to her to have the peace she was never given in life. Funny he would never say he was in fact one of those people. It's laughable.

Notable that people like Hugh Grant, H and Piers Morgan, all of whom are voluntarily in the public eye, and have egos the size of planets and cupboards full of clanking skeletons that they wish to keep hidden, have completely monopolised this post-settlement media intrusion/personal privacy debate. Surely Milly Dowler's parents and the other completely innocent victims should be the ones being allowed to have a say, and frankly they are the only ones whose views on this subject I give a damn about. (I know H makes much of his tormented childhood at the hands of the merciless press, and the fact that he was born into the public eye and lost his mum, blah blah, but as with all life's obstacles, they had potential for him to turn to great advantage if he had chosen to do so instead of behaving like a lazy entitled idiot - look at his brother).

Unfortunately, the Dowler family and the other 1,000 victims of illegal press invasion of privacy didn't have the £millions to sue the media in court. So the likes of Elton John, Hugh Grant, Tom Watson, Baroness Lawrence et all, pooled their resources to sue Murdoch, Mail Group etc. The ordinary victims had to settle after Leveson and probably didn't receive what they should have. We should have got Leveson II and an independent press complaints body with legal teeth, not the voluntary press self-regulation we ended up with. I suppose we should be grateful that the News of the World folded, but it would have been justice to see the editor accept their responsibility rather than promotion from Murdoch.

Their father had ditched us all for another woman in our eldest daughter’s last year in full-time Education. Once my youngest was gone my heart broke with agonising loneliness. It was me and the dog! That was all 30:years ago. They are all married, I have six amazing grandchildren and in a few weeks I will become a great Grandmother. I love books. When some people say to me 'oh you can google that' I'm thinking, if I want the really story here, and all the information around it I need a book. I don't read fiction - or at lease very rarely, although I did in my youth. I'm now mid 60's so for me it's all about what I'm most interested in discovering what matters to me and what makes this world, life and our place in it tick - for me.

@@crazyplantlady7985 Couldn't agree more! Google is wonderful, but it's not the same as a book. Being surrounded by books is my happy place, books and cats make a home. I love audio books but have never warmed to ebooks. Flipping through a book on a phone or iPad is so unsatisfying compared the pleasure of handling a beautiful book. Also an avid fiction reader in my youth, but less so now, you summed it up perfectly - discovering what matters and what makes the world and our place in it. Happy reading!

It doesn’t feel a little suppressed, everyone is scared to say anything in public.

It’s grim isn’t it? I’m 68 and I don’t ever remind being so depressed about the state of my country or so disillusioned about our so called leaders 😞

@@meghaPeron I didn’t think it would improve but I really thought it couldn’t be any worse. It is very much worse. The rest of the world is watching in disbelief.

I thought there had already been a criminal investigation in to this newspaper thing? My heads spinning with all these cases both past and present.

In any case, Harry published Chelsy photos on Facebook under the handle Spike Wells. He removed the photos in 2018 aft3r it got revealed that Spike Wells was his sneaky Facebook account.
@jackiegould156910 күн бұрын
@@ytcomms3945 Ohh I didnt know that. Maybe that would have been one of the things the papers would have brought up during the trial! They probably had other unpublished things that could have emerge too. Cant wait for the Mail case next year. They arent offering a settlement so it will be interesting to see what they reveal.

Difficult to prosecute when NGN destroyed millions of emails and other records in order to protect specific people, including editorial staff. Check out the Tom Watson case and why he was suing. How they got away with so much will one day come to light.
