If this had been released as the official debut album Age of Quarrel would be close to if not as highly regarded as the Bad Brains ROIR cassette and not just an early artifact of above average crossover thrash.

That's a deliberate mischaracterization of how people feel about AoQ. I agree that this is better, but many consider the final product of AoQ to be the GOAT hardcore album-not just above average crossover

@@gobblegobble831 To each his/her own but AoQ is a crossover thrash/hardcore album. The only difference between the Cro-Mags of this era and bands like DRI, Cryptic Slaughter, Excel etc. is that the Cro-Mags kept the appearance of an early 80s hardcore punk band as opposed to growing their hair out which they later did. The music, which I enjoy, undeniably has all the characteristics of a crossover thrash band.
