CROC ENCOUNTER and CORRUGATED roads||GIBB RIVER ROAD

This is our fist episode of our Gibb River Road series and we head from Derby and we hit the corrugations and have encounter with a Croc.
We are so happy to start sharing our Gibb River Road series with you. In this episode we leave Derby and we head east along the Gibb River Road and stay at Lenards rest area camp and use this as base for Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek.

Hi guys we were at Windjana Gouge 9th August and found the Gouge was closed we were told Windjana was closed for the 2023 season .. you were very lucky!! We did Tunnel the water was cold as but well worth doing. Safe travels.

Good to see you've finally reached the Gibb River Road. I came across and had a brief chat with Deryck (excuse the spelling if incorrect) on the evening of 12th June at Quobba Point Campground as you were packing up (sorry about the camp etiquette). We started our adventure on the Gibb on 24th June 2023 and emerged at the Kununurra end on 13th of July. We had to stay at Drysdale River Station for 15 days waiting for the Gibb to re-open. There are much worse places to stay than Drysdale, so we were very happy with our decision to wait out the road close there, rather than somewhere else. I hope you have as safe and enjoyable a trip as we did. We did all the gorges that were open except for Barnett River Gorge. We are in our 70's so there's no reason you can't do the same. Enjoy and I look forward to the unfolding story of your Gibb adventure. Safe travels

I am glad you guys finally made the Gibb River Road, this has to be one of the best trips we have done. Loved every minute. Would also be one of the best remote location still left. Derek no shame on not going through Tunnel Creek, you gave it a crack and that is fine and it was not for you, no use being uncomfortable and getting stressed. This is the first time I have seen Windjana Gauge with only three freshies visible, normally there are heaps. Must be just time of day. In my past life I worked about 50km from there and use to take visitors in to the Gauge and would see 50 plus. Looking forward to your next episode.

There are usually 100s of freshwater crocs in Windjana gorge but after the floods at the start of the year things are a little different. The camp ground and gorge were closed for most of this year.

The tea get said there are about 180 crocs left in the gorge and they still haven’t restored the renter station. Floods wee terrible!
