You know, Croc's origins actually go so far back, it's said that the Albert J Crocodillo, the inventor of crocodiles, wrote these words down in his research notes upon looking at his creation: "You shall inspire a new generation of art, my reptilian friend." And after the crocodile ate him, his words were rediscovered by Jez Sen during secondary school centuries later, prompting him to quit school and start the part that led us to Mario 64. I never had problems with Croc 1's controls to be honest (it was the very first 3D platformer I ever played admittedly). The need to buy items in Croc 2 was an annoyance admittedly (needing all 100 Crystals from a level to fully heal didn't bother me that much being as the boat race in world 1 and the Flavio the Thermal Fish boss fight in world 2 were both quick and easy to finish while giving 100 Crystals upon completion). My biggest issue with 2 was the fact that you only got one shot at certain rooms where you could acquire Golden Gobbos, requiring the whole level to be done over if I lost a life during them.

Croc 1 does support the Dualshock actually despite technically coming out before it. In one of the PlayStation Underground discs Croc is amongst the footage of devs talking about implementing the controller (They can actually be seen play testing with the Dual Analog which is the precursor to the DualShock). It's true the game is 100% tank controls with the dpad. The implementation of the stick is kinda weird though? It's like half 3d movement and half tank, it's hard to describe. Still makes it much easier to play at least. I didn't have the issues with the later levels like you said, but I also used the stick for the entire run instead of just rocking the dpad.
@TheGoldenBolt2 жыл бұрын
My comment was more aimed at the fact that the game wasn't able to be designed _around_ analog controls from the jump! DualShock factoring into late-stage testing, even six months prior to release let's say, it wouldn't have been able to make a huge impact on the game's core design.
@VexAcer2 жыл бұрын
@@TheGoldenBolt That's true although tbh I didn't think the game demanded too much platforming wise (at least when I played it anyway). Definitely a product of its time although I do adore the presentation/soundtrack.
