The fact that Ty was able to raise not one but TWO successful Kickstarters to rerelease the first two games on modern consoles shows that he could EASILY have an amazing comeback. He needs the KAO the Kangaroo treatment.

@@gonzalot.605 I'm glad you enjoyed the game, I really wanted to enjoy it myself but after playing the demo it just felt off. The voices of the characters felt like they didn't match, and the gameplay just didn't feel smooth to me. Just happy that KAO is getting more recognition though.

I'm just gonna be honest, as an Australian this game and the series make me really really fucking proud. Seeing so many people outside of Australia knowing about and loving a game born and bred here is such a great feeling. Hell, I remember back when I went to Melbourne's ACMI as a kid and saw the stop-motion zoetrope with all the Ty characters, it blew me away, since it was so great seeing something I recognised as a gamer in reality - and I'm sure some international fans would have been the same way back then.

Not going to lie, Ty was my first real experience learning about Australia and Australian culture. As an American, I’ve been referring to the toilet as the dunny pretty much my whole life now. It introduced me to a whole new way of life, so similar yet so different. I have been studying Australian history for years and to this day, I keep up to date with current events, and I am very close to submitting a job application to a job in Brisbane. With Bluey on the air it occurred to me recently that my daughter very well may have a similar experience.

I think TY 5 following 1's formula would be the best option with current trends. Keeping the old boomerang system would be safest for combat, but I think they should go the ambitious step of giving every minor enemy diplomatic immunity to spice things up.

Personally, I think the combat should be a mix of Ty 1/2 and Ty 3. Give us separate buttons for melee and ranged attacks, with some kinda combo system that lets you chain them together seamlessly. Actually this just sounds like Devil May Cry with more platforming.

I am HUGELY passionate about speedrunning Ty 2, but speedrunning the series as a whole has been getting a surge of popularity (relative to what it was like before, it's no Mario 64 or anything) so it's been awesome that the casual gaming world is also starting to appreciate it more. It's been so underrated for so long and always been top tier for me :) Also worth mentioning we have an entire category "Steve%" where the goal is just to find Gooboo Steve all 10 times ASAP as we bow down to his infinite wisdom and power 😂

This series is honestly something special to me, 'cause alongside SpongeBob Revenge of the Flying Dutchman, Crash: Wrath of Cortex & Spyro 3. Ty 1 was one of, if not my very 1st games I ever played! So seeing these games become relevant again in recent years, it's truly amazing to see! And being given the chance to finally play Ty 4, is gonna be interesting for sure. While I still find some enjoyment with Ty 3, and oddly enough I recently found out a couple months ago that Krome actually put in a post credits scene teasing the next game at the time. I did wind up shifting views & came to the same opinion that Ty 2 was the best game in the trilogy, while still enjoying the others just as much! Also, there was apparently a TV show in the works when Ty 2 released. Since it was long believed to be cancelled, I asked Krome themselves about it on Twitter a few years ago, and this is what they said - "We stopped trying to find a distributor for it because there was no interest for it at the time and we moved on to other projects. Nothing to do with EA or Activision, It's just that TV networks were the only options back then." It's sad it didn't come to fruition, but it's an interesting piece of Ty history regardless. So here's hoping a Ty 5 can finally happen someday! Awesome video by the way! :)

Flying Dutchman was one of my first games as well! I remember the construction site being crazy frustrating! Shame about the Ty show, honestly. Didn't Tak and the Power of JuJu get a TV show adaptation around this time as well? Heck, they were throwing around ideas for a Kingdom Hearts TV show too! Almost makes you wonder where video game media would be had more of those actually panned out.

@@qrowing Tak actually got a show shortly after the 3rd game released. As for Kingdom Hearts, it has been reported that a show was happening in 2020. But no other updates as far as I know. As someone who played the original game on his old PS2 as a kid back around the time it came out (and got the remaster of it on Steam six years ago), I thank you for doing your part in exposing this series to more people. I never really _beat_ the game my first go-around, though-- just found cheats online, got to the later parts of the game early, and didn't have a fair playthrough until I got the remaster. It was certainly a good way of exposing me to Australian culture, however. As for the other games, I just never got around to picking them up the first time around, but I intend to do so with their remasters at some point, even more so after this video reminded me that I still have to. I realize you didn't have the most glowing appreciation for TY 3, but I'll get it anyway, if only to further support Krome's future efforts. They still seem to believe this ol' thylacine has life in him yet, and with their Kickstarter successes and the ongoing platformer resurgence, I kinda can't blame 'em. I may not be a fan of this series the way I am with Sonic or Ratchet & Clank, but it still had a hand in my formative years, and I did wind up playing some of Krome's other projects (their Legend of Spyro games and Blade Kitten, namely), so I'm certainly rooting for their future success.

i have such good memories of the first ty game!!! we grew up with the gamecube version and i loved the music and characters. i didn't even know there are sequels til i found the remastered on steam a couple years ago! 3 was still in early access but i immediately bought 1 and 2. it's so fun being able to return to that childhood and have more to enjoy as well. we had so much fun with ty i found it weird learning the game's not more popular

Great video but One correction. The Legend of Spyro was published by Sierra. They wouldn't be merged into Activision until their parent company Vivendi acquires Activision in 2008. Now this doesn't change the core of the part of the video where this is brought up, as Krome would still have their hands full with trying to make Ty 3 the same time as a high-profile game that was definitely draining more workmen hours than their own IP, but thought of mention it for before someone "Well actually" and dismisses the whole video because of a minor factual error in a theory.

Yeah wait, I knew that like a hundred times over - why did my brain just let that part slip by? Good shout! Like you said, it doesn't matter beyond being a dumb little supposition, but even if I was being generous, the Activision-Vivendi buyout wasn't in the works until I wanna say mid-2006 at the earliest so there's no world where that works out!

@@ericvandenavond8748 Yes. As well as King's Quest. They were bought by Vivendi-Universal Interactive Studios(the owners of Crash and Spyro) in the mid 2000s. And since Sierra was a bigger name publisher, Vivendi rebranded the parent company as Sierra(ala Infograms with Atari)

I actually played the first Ty the Tasmanian Tiger game when it came out and I remember it being a really decent platforming game with some actually good content like the racing minigames. I had no idea it went on to have more games down the road. This is definitely one of the rarest gems people overlooked with Kao the Kangaroo and Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg being extremely rare.

Thank you for covering a very old game series in my childhood, it says a lot when even at 6 to 7 years old I still vividly remember Ty and Sly despite how simple they are and the gameplay loop just being incredibly fun, boomerang combat was such a novelty and even to this day I still remember the messy sfx mix it had. I spent an actually unholy amount of hours as a child just bearing with my terrible sense of direction (that I didn't know I had at the time) for all 3 games and I still somehow made it to the finish line, and now that I know there's Steam remasters I may get them one day once they're on sale, I want there to be a Ty 5 and see this franchise become something bigger, which is what it honestly deserves.

This made me very happy. I always adored this franchise. Never played 3 in full or 4 whatsoever, and I think that if Krome can get a fifth game that they can do whatever they want, and I think I will immediately buy them on digital storefronts because this franchise is so cute and wonderful.

I had the first game and adored it as a kid. We ended up getting the second, I think, too. Played less of that one just on account of me probably being more interested in other, much bigger, titles at the time. I honestly had no clue there was a resurgence in interest in the game/series, or that it ended up being a cult classic, so this video was the first I'd heard of that. Sure, I'm four months late, but hey.

I rented TY from a movie gallery back in the day and it was love at first sight. Such a fun game to play with memorable characters and funny dialogue. I later got all three original games for GameCube and still have them to this day. I bought HD remasters on switch and managed to be a backer for Bush Rescue. Just from the dev updates on the Kickstarter you can really see their passion for TY and the love for their fans.

This was fascinating and an absolute treat to watch. Your research and production value here are outstanding! That being said, omfg I LOVE this series. I've dumped countless hours into Ty 1 & 2 on console (I have Ty 3, but didn't play it much partially because of the hack and slash combat, but also partially because the original console version is SO dark sometimes I can't see what's going on) and I also played the life out of Ty 2 & 3 on GBA (a GBA version of Ty 1 doesn't exist, to my knowledge). I picked up the HD remasters of both Ty 1 and 2 on PS4 the day they dropped, and I got Ty 1 again on Switch. These games were some of my absolute favorites when I was growing up, and it was weird that no one else I knew had even heard of them. It makes me really happy to see Ty's resurgence over the last couple of years, and to watch people experience Ty for the first time in all his aussie glory. Here's to Ty 5!

THANK YOU for bringing more eyes to this series, especially with the remasters coming out somewhat recently. This was one of the first games I ever got for ps2 as a kid, and a favorite. I've always thought it was a shame how little attention it ended up getting. I didn't even know there was a potential Ty 5, or even a *resurgence* happening! I thought the remakes through kickstarter were going to be it, so I haven't kept my eyes on the franchise

I never grew up on this game, but I recently found out about it after realizing there was a game based around my favorite animal. Bought the first game on my switch, beat it, and loved it enough to buy and complete the second game. Thanks Ty for getting me through my freshman year of high school and giving me a peek into Australian culture. Edit: I actually ended up 100%ing both games in both normal and hardcore difficulties because I liked them so much.
