She is going through both loops not back loop only. This is clear if you watch using slow motion option 😊

@karenstocks2623 I slowed down to slowest setting and I could definitely see 2 loops on her hook. Tbh I doubt it will make that much difference whichever stitch you choose so long as you're consistent. Happy crocheting 🙂

You mean you chain 17 but work 16 stitches, right? 16 is even and if it starts on a slip stitch and ends on a half double, that is an even number of stitches.
