Thank you for posting this!! Was searching the comments and for "shoulder to shoulder" people say to measure arm pit to arm pit, not to the ENDS of your shoulders, hope this helps others!

@@jacque9929 I’m a very new crocheter too. What I did was make two rectangles where the height is from the bottom of the top to where I want the armhole to start & width is the distance between the front and back of the top when I put it on my body. Then connected the two sides of the rectangle to the front and back side by seaming them together. This creates space for the armhole! Sorry if the explanation is confusing & lemme know if you have any questions!

@neamhcridhe6475 3 ай бұрын
it also depends on the type of yarn used and how tight or loose your tension is as to how wide to make it, but yes, always measure so that you have a baseline just in case. since i make doll clothes, i am always putting it on the doll as i go because most of my stuff i make is pattern-less.

Im done ;( I have no idea why when I chain 36 chains (that was the length if my shoulder) after I made double chrochets this length in my first row become much chorter. I don't get it it is so frustreting. I don't think you have added some chains to your foundation chain at the behining. Can you help me to figure out what I have done wrong?
@marketarychtarikova1949
@marketarychtarikova1949 3 ай бұрын
It depends on the yarn, I always had to chain less because my panel came out so big. You should try to chain little more than your shoulder length (without stretching the chain, you might be stretching it when you put it against your shoulders and so you think you need only 36 but for the right width of the top there should be more) was this the issue?
@jadeharley8640
@jadeharley8640 2 ай бұрын
The measurements in the video are for a small/medium sized top and she did 56 chains for the foundation. If you're using a similar weight yarn and hook size, 36 chains is probably way too short in the first place. 😅 If that's not the issue, are you adding a chain between each DC? If you're skipping that step, it may make the length of your panel shorter.

@Kat-ne9ww
@Kat-ne9ww 3 ай бұрын
i made mine to how she did in the video and mine crosses over a bit.. you can either make the tie strings longer to that you can wrap it around the backside and tie it, or completely stitch the front two panels ontop of each other and not do the straps at all! if you do this, be sure to leave plenty of room to be able to get it on/off, and if you feel it is too loose, look into elastic thread to add into the bottom! hope this helps!

Im kinda new to crocheting, so i have a question, i have a lot of yarn but its significantly smaller (idk how is it called sorry, but the hook i am supposed to use is 1,75mm) so my question is: is there anything i can do to try making this piece with the yarn i have?? Like some form of conversion on the numbers so i can calculate the number of rolls or something like that? Or should i just go with the flow? P.s.: im sorry if this is confusing and do not make any sense im not very fluent in english and i barely know much about crochet so i am confused myself 😭😭😭

Hi there! I have a few different suggestions about what you can do now. The first one would be to stick with the recommended hook size for your yarn and just make more stitches until you meet the length you need. The second would be to just stick with the hook recommendation in the video (that will lead to bigger “holes” between the stitches). The third option would be to choose a hook that's something in between. So for your case, I would guess 3mm or 3,5mm perhaps (that will also lead to bigger “holes” between the stitches but they won't be as big). The last thing I can think of would be to take multiple strands of the same yarn and basically crochet with them at the same time so the yarn would be thicker but that would take a lot of yarn. Choose what will work best for you ❤. Btw I'm also doing this project with a slightly thinner yarn (a 3,5mm hook is recommended) and I’ll most likely use a 4mm hook but I’m not fully decided yet. I hope I could help you at least a bit ❤️.
@ghostonka
@ghostonka 4 ай бұрын
Also for the amount of yarn you’ll need, you can try to google it or somehow calculate the gauge but to be honest I don't know that too well I always just guess it. But if you look at the description of the video you can see that she used 700 yards of yarn so for you it could be like 3x that but I’m not too sure.

@@ghostonkaThank you so so much, it really was really helpful!!💖 I wish you the best of luck with your project! I bet it will turn out beautifully!! And I think I will do as you suggested and try to thicker the yarn by using multiple threads!! But since my biggest hook is a 2mm I will have to buy bigger ones! That is kind of the struggle when making crochet clothes, but part of it is applying your own measurements to the pattern. Of course her measurements won’t work on you exactly and the back panel can be adjusted by adding or subtracting chains from the beginning as well as adding or subtracting the number of rows. Most crochet clothes patterns will require some personal adjustments.
@jadeharley8640
@jadeharley8640 2 ай бұрын
@@sierrapeterson2409 Her measurements are very vague and make it harder to make the necessary adjustments in the first place. I don't think she even mentioned what size top her pattern will make; I only figured out it's small/medium after I tried to adjust several times, failed, and just remade it with the exact stitch lengths she used in the video. 😅

Just finished making this! I also added the scalloped edge all across the back of the top, so instead of cutting and reattaching the yarn i just continued around! And added a row of sc on the end of the sleeves and a scalloped edge on those as well. Such a fun project! I wish I had made the shoulder panels a bit wider, but I will on my next try!
