I’ve recently moved into a senior apt bldg and joined a knitting crochet club. I’m a beginner and crocheting string bracelets with pony beads. I would like to try the wire crochet too. They are very pretty and look sturdy. It would be fun to use drilled beach glass and shells for an ocean theme. Very well done narration and closeup video. Thank you. 🥰🍁🦃

Beaded Wire Crochet!!!! How awesome! :D Thank you so much for this video tutorial! I've been crocheting with yarn and thread since I was a young child (5 years old!) and recently got into making tubular peyote bead crochet bangles. I've always wondered how these wispy, almost ethereal wire bracelets and necklaces were made. and now I know! (yay!!!) It's so nice to see that my beaded tubular crochet knowledge is the perfect segue-way to learning beaded wire crochet. And I already have all the materials needed. So all that's left is to try my hand at it! Woot Woot!! :D Thanks again!

Very nice vid, thank you. For any yarners out there, yes, normally when doing your rows you would go through the top two loops, but you don't have to do that with wire. I've been making these for a few years now and it's up to your own imagination what you want to create. If you go through the two loops then your wire has more holes and tends to loose a little definition. Thanks again Mel!

Did you first try with yarn? If so - did it ball up when you did it with the yarn? It sounds like you may be able to crochet a little looser - you may be tending to do it a little tight which can have it bunching up a bit.

Maybe you can help. First of all, about the base metal used. I understand some sterling silver/fine silver is used more so than base metals when wire wrapping etc. And I do understand they can be hard on the hands/wrists while working (as I too use them in wire wrapping). But, what about allergies for those who cannot use some metals? Are there any of these types of spooled metals (which btw, where can we find them spooled like that?) that will not cause people with sensitive skin, to have any problems wearing them? Also, can this be done using metallic threads? And are there any metallic yarns out there, that are not so weighty, to use in place of the spooled metals? Appreciate your help in answering these questions! :) Thank you!

im an experienced crocheter but have a question..... i did not see you do a turning chain and my mind keeps shouting at me that you would lose a stitch each row. so what am i missing to make sense in my head?
@beaducation5 жыл бұрын
You can do a turning chain - honestly this project is meant to be free-form and organic - with the beads, sometimes you will even need to add a stitch because a larger bead can make a row look a little longer than the following row. Follow your crocheting background and just practice and see what you like.

Loved your lesson. Sometimes my back is really a mess and I lie down and continue doing my stuff. I have never done crochet with wire but I am going to try it out. What I would like to know is if I can use nylon wiring or clear colors bead string wire? Once again thank you and I'll appreciate any insight you can other of other kinds of wire.
@beaducation9 жыл бұрын
Hi Iracema, nylon wire or colored beading wire will work, as long as it is thinner than 26 gauge you should be good to go :)
@IracemaPassos9 жыл бұрын
beaducation Thank you so much for your reply. Here in the Northeast of Brazil it's hard to find good wire to work with. I received a gift of different wires from Americans who came to work at the company I was teaching English at in my city but only now you have given me an option of how to use them. Once again thank you.

What are the best places to buy the wire? Where I live we are limited to a Michaels and Walmart.. I have looked at wire and bought some 24 gauge wire.. Is this to big? the smaller wire looks like string.. can I still do this with the 24 gauge?

I'm curious with the wire crochet do you go through just the back loop versus both back and front/ "V" as you do with crochet? I noticed you weren't going under both loops in the yarn crochet demonstration part. Thanks! Love your videos btw!! :)
@beaducation9 жыл бұрын
+D' Gypsy I'm not sure about this question. I know that I crochet the yarn and the wire the same way if that is helpful information? I think Step 3 is a good one to be able to look at again. I pull through one loop, take more wire and then pull through the two loops on the hook. Just let me know if there is other information I am able to give. Thanks for watching!
@FrothingFanboy7 жыл бұрын
I have the same question. Yes, it seems as if she is going through the back loop only. This is not standard crochet technique, and I wish she would say so.
@beaducation7 жыл бұрын
Hi! +FrothingFanboy and +D' Gypsy I asked Mel, and here is her response: "I do just go through the back loop - you CAN go through both - but I find that it is a little harder to go through both loops with the wire as it is stiffer and harder to manipulate once you are factoring in the beads as well :)"
@LcJohnson796211 жыл бұрын

Love this tutorial and making the bracelets. Two questions, though. Is there another closure that would work well? The 3-hole bar clasp is a bit hard to find in my area. I want to be able to easily get a closure in a pinch. Second question - for clarity. Once you reach the fourth row there are only 5 loops. It looks like you actually go into the loop closest to the hook and do not chain one to end up with 5 loops. Hope this question makes sense. Thanks!
@beaducation9 жыл бұрын
+Paula Quick sorry for the very late reply. Here is what Mel had to say...I wasn't aware I did that on the fourth row, but I will say that if you ever lose a loop when crocheting the wire, you CAN go through the loop at the end or go into one loop twice in a row to recover a loop. Wire is more forgiving than yarn when it is finished because it is a more organic look, particularly when you add the beads. You can use any multi-strand clasp to finish the bracelet. If you can type in 'multi strand clasp' in a google search you will see many multi strand options and any of them will work, as long as you feel they are easy for yourself or your customer to put on and take off. If you end up using one that then connects to a lobster clasp or spring ring, just make sure that you take into account that your crocheted portion may have to be a little shorter since the clasp may add more length. Thanks.
