I think I have found my favorite crochet teacher here! Your voice is very calming when you speak and you show numerous stitches when showing new segments and techniques and don’t assume we know anything as we move along in the pattern. I really appreciate this as a beginner getting unchallenged by the same afghan over and over again! Your slow, encouraging rhythm and teaching style make me feel I can actually make the projects you teach, which are lovely! Thanks so much!

@createandcrochetwithpatricia Жыл бұрын
Yes, you could do another pattern repeat to make the hat more slouchy, or a partial pattern repeat... if you have a slouchy hat to compare the height to that would be helpful. Just add rounds until you have the desired height. 👍👌

❤ this pattern!! I used Red Heart Roll With It Melange in beautiful color Show Time. Your stitches are so beautifully loose and soft. Mine seem a bit tighter but hat came out great! I may try to use two strands and maybe go up a hook size to make a bit chunkier and looser. It's cold here in the winters so maybe doubling up the yarn will fill in holes a bit. Thanks for a beautiful pattern and great tutorial!
@createandcrochetwithpatricia Жыл бұрын
Wonderful...I love the idea of doubling up the yarn. I've thought of doing a tutorial on how to line a crocheted hat with fleece because crochet can be a bit 'airy', and as a result, not so warm. ⛄

Patricia.... this is so good, we actually get to see the finished garment before commencement of knitting it, the viewing is excellence: most often the videos start crocheting the pattern immediately: and that is confusing: NB: ALL VIDEOS SHLD HAVE THE FINISHED ITEM VISIBLE TO US, AND CROCHETER WLD NEED TO POINT TO WHAT LINE THEY ARE DOING, SO ON... ETC: THIS WOULD BE REASSURING!!

Thank you so much for this crochet hat pattern, I loved it so much I was determined to make it and I've just this minute finished it. However I must add because I'm in the UK and although I used the correct size hooks once I'd started I could see it would be really small. I started again adding the 8 extra that was mentioned somewhere on here and yes it's still small and would fit a small child but I persevered wanting to see the finished product and yes I do have a 3 year old granddaughter whom it will fit perfectly. I used a very similar yarn that you used (King Cole I think) but it's UK double knit so there was my problem not quite the same thickness that your pattern required. I will do it again but this time casting on 88 sts and doing a 3 or 4 of the repeat pattern that way I think I will get an adult size hat, so that's my advice to anyone wanting to crochet this gorgeous hat but using UK double knit.
@createandcrochetwithpatricia2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the size of yarn and your own crochet tension will make a difference. The written pattern gives some gauge measurements, but you are correct in simply adding more pattern repeats to get the size you desire. A larger crochet hook can also help. Enjoy! patriciafentie.com/2019/10/30/crochet-a-bohemian-hat/

I found the hat getting too big. I had to unravel it. The problem started on the row where I switched to a bigger hook. Using the smaller hook for the whole thing worked great. The second time around I kept the hat inside out and worked around it. I didn't switch back and forth. I'm done I love it!
@createandcrochetwithpatricia3 жыл бұрын
Well done! I'm glad you figured out the issue and switched back to the smaller hook. Crochet tension is subjective, so it's good you know how to adjust for that.

Hi Patricia, I just got finished with the band and feel like it’s going to be too small. I used a size G hook, next down from the H 5mm but maybe it’s too small? What should the measurements be for the band before I slip knot it together?
@createandcrochetwithpatricia2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that will be too small. G is equal to 4 mm and the pattern calls for 4.5 mm (which doesn't have a US equivalent). You could use the H (5 mm) and just crochet with slightly tighter tension. The band should be 20-21" depending on your tension. The pattern repeat is 8 stitches, so you can increase the number of rows by that amount to do another pattern repeat as well.
@dianethornton84202 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the quick reply and info. I’ll have to purchase the 4.5mm hook. I’m looking forward to completing the project.
