@@letsyarnoverover i just finished him. I'm not totally sold on him because he's so round on the bottom and doesn't really stand on his own. The pattern calls for a circle of cardboard for stability but that really doesn't help. He's absolutely adorable. I'm going to show him to the lady who is handling the decorations and see what she thinks. I just wish he was a bit more stable and could stand on his own.

When I use the slip stitch join method like you did with the arms, I'm ending up with extra stitches in the row. What am I doing wrong?

After making the slip stitch, pull the loop on your hook tightly so that the slip stitch is tightened as much as possible. The slip stitch is the joining, not counted as a stitch.
