No magic circles used! This tutorial is the third in a short series on how to crochet a simple double crochet beanie using a chunky/bulky weight yarn and a 6mm crochet hook, so they work up fast. This video series will include tutorials on all sizes from 0 to adult.
This video is for ages 12 months to 3 years, which will fit up to 19 inches in head circumference. Finished hat circumference is 17 inches.
You will need;
chunky/bulky weight yarn (size 5)
J (6.0mm) crochet hook
Gauge;
3 dc to 1 inch

I made this one for 18mo. It turned out perfect. I got a little nervous a few times and had to go back through the video but I finished my first hat in about 4 hours. My daughter won't wear it but everyone else loves it. This is a great pattern and will be doing more from this page!

Kayla Davis Hi there! I started crocheting recently too, and I've made lots of mistakes while doing this beanie. Each round I've had to count the stitches, undo a couple and try again. I kept counting until I got it "right". Last week I could only just hold the yarn and hook without dropping everything on the floor! I think we just have to keep going, and things will become more familiar. Stay strong! :)

I have made beanies for 0-6 months and Adult and i also did Child beanies which i did the same pattern as the adult but with only 9 rows after the first 6 rows instead of 10 like the adult. I couldn't find a pattern to do for kids aged between 6 to 10 so i basically winged it haha. Thankyou for making these videos as they are very helpful and so easy to follow.

This has got to be THE best simple beanie tutorial I have come across.. and I've seen plenty! I was always shown how to do a hat with single crochets increasing for what seemed like ages and no matter how many I made, there was always an issue with losing my count or going wrong somewhere. Vourna Sanchez that happened the very first time I did one, it’s been like 2 years but looking at the hat, it seems like if you don’t put your hook THROUGH the stitch rather than under it’ll do that, as well as not slip stitching INTO the stitch rather than just going around the chain, which I do a lot without thinking about it. I just made a hat for my daughter thanks to this fab tutorial 😁 She's 21 months and it fits her perfectly. One question though, where you say the stitches are doubles, are they not trebles? I'm a newbie so I could be wrong but I was sure that's how you do trebles haha.

Rach97134 Double Crochet is US terminology & Treble is UK :-) Same stitch though x

A treble crochet is the UK terminology for a triple crochet which is the same as the double crochet except there is an extra yarn over, pull up a loop, pull through 2.

Yes, changing the materials sizes will affect the hat size
