I have spent a couple of days with this tutorial and I have been struggling a lot. I am definiately a beginner but this is not my first project and not the first one I am doing off of a youtube video. This tutorial could improve in a couple of ways to make it easier to follow - a lot of times I feel like I cannot really see where you are putting your hook, or when I think I can see it, there is a change in the angles or a cut in the video. The choice of yarn could make a big difference as well, white is difficult to crochet with and I don't think it's the best choice for a tutorial video, also the lighting makes this dark brown difficult to follow. This doesn't mean to be a discouraging comment at all and I am definiately grateful to have free crochet patterns and tutorials available but I eventually gave up and have to find a new pattern/tutorial elsewhere which is a shame because these are the cutest mittens ever! Edit: Also these were too small for my wrist so I had to add a couple of rows for the ribbing but ofc this could change a couple of things when you increase. It would have been great to hear tips on how to do it for different sizes!

@faithdoak1314Ай бұрын
I think so! This pattern is flexible so you can do sc single color or multi color, or csc single color or multi. Just depends on what look you’re going for :)

these look great! how would you adjust them if you wanted to make a bigger size?
@Jzy212 ай бұрын
Bigger hook or add more ribbing rows!
@stephaniethesoprano2 ай бұрын
This is what I did, it's long but I had to make more adjustments than hook size and more rows lol: I used a light yarn/weight 3 because that's what matched the weight of the DK yarn in the same brand I was looking at (my local craft store for some reason had loads of bulky and medium weight yarns but like no light or DK weights lol), visually it looked similar, and the lightweight yarn was cheaper for more yarn. Following the pattern, I ended up with ribbing that was way too small so I doubled the rows and chained 16 instead of 11 (should have chained 21 to make it a bit longer but 16 was fine), and then continued generally with the patten, but added more length by adding extra rows in the block where it's straight SC right before the decreases. I also increased each colour to three rows instead of two rows. I had great difficulty with the CSC, even with adjusting my hook size (using the stated sizes made the stitches too loose imo), so I used regular SC instead. I followed the increases in the mitten body as stated, just with extra sets per round (EDIT: I only did the first row of increases, I didn't do the second row but check the shape on your hand because for a bulkier yarn I did both sets). I put the mitten on my hand to gauge where the thumbhole should be and crocheted accordingly. I only used one colour for the thumb (and the decreases at the top of the mitten), but I just SC until the thumb was long enough, and then followed the (4sc, 1dec) (3sc, 1dec), (2sc, 1dec), (1sc, 1dec) pattern to decrease by full rounds. For decreasing in the top of the mitten I also added an extra round of (2sc, 1 dec) and two extra rounds of (1sc, 1dec) to decrease it enough to finish it off. The decrease/increase rounds didn't always match exactly but I just stopped when I finished the round, be it before an increase or not. I found that for my size adjustments, this is what maintained a nice mitten shape! The biggest thing is to try the mitten on every few rows to make sure the shape is looking how you want it and adjusting accordingly. I'm also still a beginner crocheter so more experienced crocheters will have better insight probably lol

I don't know if you've mentioned it up to this point but why with the white are you using double strands of yarn and with the other color you're only using a single strand!?
@jennabergkvistlindgren30429 күн бұрын
Its to get the same thicness as the Brown yarn!
@Heyyy6307 күн бұрын
Mohair is extremely thin. Almost no effect to the yarn weight so its just for texture
@bluehueningieАй бұрын
i'm not sure why, but when trying to put the stitches in between (like the csc portion) it's pretty difficult to get my hook in between the stitches, would it be because of my tension? does every row have to be fairly loose in order for the hook to go in between smoothly?
@faithdoak1314Ай бұрын
I think it is tension! I have to remind myself to have a looser hand when it comes to csc, or else I get too stiff and it makes it much harder! I think it also depends on the yarn. I tend to use a thicker acrylic yarn (cuz it’s cheaper) so stitches tend to be tougher than using a thinner smoother yarn.

I think i use a wrong weight bcoz I already have 24 rows still doesn’t fit me.😢 but maybe this will fit my toddler😊
@stephaniethesoprano2 ай бұрын
I looked up DK yarn to double check the weight, and online it says it should be light to medium (3 to 4) with more sources saying light/3 so that's what I bought.... the gauge was WAY too small, I had difficulty with the CSCs, and I had to adjust a lot along the way. I also compared it to the DK yarn from the same brand (which was less yarn for a higher price so I chose the more cost effective option) and it looked quite similar in thickness in my opinion. The final mitten turned out nicely though! I think it's best to use the exact yarn she used, use yarn that's specifically DK, or use a thinner medium weight yarn. I know yarn can vary within the weight, so I expected some difference, but I had to basically double the stitch counts, and adjust my hook sizes too. It's a good pattern, but as a beginner who has had luck with making weight and hook adjustments in other projects I was surprised at how different this one turned out!

i did 36 rows and am just winging it from there..... i just finished both of the cuffs and im scared 😭😭
@agneshawkbird85295 күн бұрын
I did 36 rows instead of 24 and pretty much just followed the patterns. The only thing is that my numbers are off. I think the decreases are possible to do as the original pattern say but I found a decrease calculator and decrease from 36-6 on the hand and like 14-7 and on the thumb and then just sew the rest together. 😊

@@amytaber9676 I had to make some major stitch count adjustments, idk if it was my yarn weight (it matched the DK yarn of the same brand in my craft store, but the DK was much more expensive so I went with the cheaper one), the fact that I'm still a beginner, or if it was the pattern itself but my first attempt at ribbing ended up being way too small so I doubled the rows. Her yarn looks much thicker than the yarn I used, and the yarn I used also visually looked similar in thickness to the DK yarn I looked at so hers might have been thicker than mine anyway. I used a smaller hook, but I found using the stated hook made the ribbing really loose and holey (again, could have been my skill level lol), I wrote a longer reply further up with how I ended up adjusting! I followed the pattern generally, with adjustments to make the mitten longer and wider.
