My issue with this video is that it shows the more basic steps (like casting on) in great detail but lacks any exlplanation on the hardest bits

@@addisonbartholomew728 She's more advanced than a beginner. You have to brush up on your knitting terminology. You can always backtrack to where she lost you at and refer to parts you do not understand online. It's not that difficult of a pattern.

To those saying this is confusing and not for beginners.. I think this video is for beginner mittens, not beginner knitters. As you can imagine, mittens are much harder than scarves.. I think this is more for people who can knit basic squares and rectangles and want to try easy mittens. If you have never knitted before, make a few scarves and potholders, learn how to knit and purl, rib, and stockinette. THEN try mittens. I have never made mittens before, but I have made multiple scarves and I know how to do the stitches I mentioned above. And I understand what she is saying. So I would kindly suggest one familiarize themself with basic knitting skills before trying this.

Sunflower Cara dude right...at first I was like "oh cool beginner that’s me I can follow along and then pause as need be and the she started talking and said abbreviations and said now flip it over and kksskb pearl some crap and at that point I threw my now knotted attempt at a glove across the room and said f’it I’ll stick with scarves and a blanket". This is so not for beginners in any way shape or language like wth is she saying. Admittedly I hit frustrated, but I don’t think she knows what Beginner means.

I love how seamlessly you tie together this pattern, this is one of the first knitting tutorials that seemed accessible to me as a self taught knitter(I started crocheting several years ago, and basically put together all of my knitting skills through experimentation). Though I have technically spent quite a bit of time knitting, I am still very new to the terminology. You make this look so easy! I have a request, if there is any way you could put together a video tutorial on most common stitches and their applications/ terms and techniques, like how you personally hold your work/needles, set up your work station, etc, I would really appreciate it.

If your teaching how to knit; please don't tell what you are doing ahead of time because beginners have no idea what you are talking about. We are trying to follow you but ,your talking about what you are going to do, instead of what you are actually doing. It is very difficult to follow you. This is by far the most confusing video tutorial.

I suggest that you look at the video from start to finish, especially if it's your first time making something. It works out better for you because then you know what to expect. It makes it easier for you if you look up and practice casting on, pearl stitch, knit stitch, binding off, how to pick up a drop stitch, increase a stitch and decrease a stitch prior to starting a project. You will need most of these to make a hat and scarf.

So I see a lot of comments on how this is a difficult video to follow. This was my first time knitting mittens and I found it to be super helpful! Not all on its own - but definitely click the link in her blog for the written pattern and use the video as a reference. There were some terms and stitches I didn't know, but once I looked them up it was easy to do. I would def recommend this to a confident beginner.

I had the same problem at first because we probably both have yarn that's a larger guage. She's using pretty thin yarn. I started with 30 stitches and then adjusted the rest to that number instead (so 30 cast on, reduce to 28 after the cuff, alternate knit and purl rows until 3.5 in., knit 13 then add a stitch until there are 6 in between, etc.). If you want to try knitting them again, I can give you the rest of the numbers I used.

@misselanys1219
@misselanys1219 2 жыл бұрын
Reattaching the yarn. Its tricky this is what i do. I take my new working yarn and tie it to the stitch just underneath where you are beginning leaving a 4 to 6 inch tail so you can weave it in later. I use a crochet hook or a large eye yarn needle to do that. Then simply start knitting with your new working yarn. When the mitten is done, just weave in that tied off tail so it wont show. They say that you should not use knots in knitting BUT with mittens the hands esp. kids hands move a lot. The last thing you want is a mitten unraveling while you are well wearing it. You could use a spit join if you are using real wool yarn but I use100% acrylic and spit joins dont work there. The knots I use to join acrylic yarn are the magic knot see youtube tutorials for instructions and the plain square knot for reattaching mittens and socks. Hope this helps.

I should have looked at the written instructions first because when I did the 3.5in I did it from the cuff. Instead of the cast on start. So I just knitted one big mitten

Basic Knitted Mittens : After knitting up the thumb, and pulling the 22 stitches, Can you Confirm the total number of stitches at 44. This would be helpful to know before you start to knit the top of the mitten. Respectfully, Debbie Bloomer Kitchener ON Canada

This video will not be good for beginners, but if you are experienced I would recommend watching it. I’m only a kid and this all makes perfect sense after knitting for six months. And if you don’t understand something, just go watch another tutorial on it because you probably haven’t learned it yet. This video is about making mittens, not going over what the purl stitch is or how to cast on. So don’t watch the video if you don’t no how to do those things and don’t blame it on her

Just ignore how she says the 22 stitches on the left side at 5:48 and use this video is for people who have trouble reattaching after the thumb: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6vYc4qmg8qEhMU

Great video...until you get to the thumb. It would be helpful to explain how and where to join the yarn after you break it for the thumb. Super lost and not sure how to continue

after you're done the thumb attach yarn to next stitch on left that's still on needle (right side row) and knit to end of row. Its same as though you're joining yarn to beginning of a row

I got lost around 5 minutes, I'm a begginner and I don't understand all the knitting lingo and you were not slow at all for people to understand what's actually going on you just say a bunch of code words in knitting and expecting everyone to just understand instantly on what to do. Other than that it's a good video. I understood it until that point.
