Is this pattern sutible for a 4.0mm hook and non bulky yarn
@theresascrochetshop Жыл бұрын
Yes! If you make this pattern as written with medium weight yarn and a 4mm hook, it will be 4 inches (10 cm) wide and 3.5 inches (9 cm) long.

I made this with standard weight yarn and a 4mm hook. It turned out super well! I might use a 3.5 or 3 mm hook for standard weight yarn for anyone else who tries this, but even with the slightly-too big hook I love how it turned out. Thank you so much for the wonderful pattern!

So I just started to learn crocheting (about 5 days ago) and I am almost done with my ray. I made my ray a big bigger (eyeballed the rows) and used felt yarn. To crochet both sides together i had to switch from an 8 mm hook to a smaller version (i used 3 mm cause thats the obly other one I have but 5mm should be enough). But your video was soooo helpful, thanks to you I can proudly say that I can crochet the basics (:

I love this design! I used a different type and size yarn and hook because it's all I had and it's so teeny, fits in the palm of my hand! I finished it and then had an idea, it worked! if you do the exact same steps as you do to make the tail on each corner of the head but only chain 3 it becomes a Manta Ray! Now I've got ideas on how to change a few parts of the pattern on the wings and or nose I think I could make it look like a southern ray, a cownose ray, and a spotted eagle ray hehe I love the original design as a cute sort of unspecified species of ray and Im going to be making a ton more in pretty colors but I think I'm also going to test my alterations with the colors the rays are in real life. Thank you for this tutorial it was super simple to follow! 🥰

I have a pattern for a bigger ray here: www.theresascrochetshop.com/products/raymond-ray-amigurumi-crochet-pattern But the basic concept to make a bigger ray would be to continue the pattern after R7, with an increase at the beginning and the end of each row until you are happy with the size. :) Let me know if you have other questions!

Some notes after making one of these: you can add the tail during the closure process if you finish one side, chain 9 and slip stitch back and then continue the closure. You can also slip stitch across the 6 stitches at the top to begin the head in the 7th stitch instead of cutting and refastening your yarn. These 2 steps lead to less hassle and more stream lined process!

@oceanchildasmr8 ай бұрын
What I do to make it bigger is get chunkier yarn usually (paired with a bigger needle too). When working with my chunkiest yarn and I still want it bigger, I either double the number of each row and/or use a double or triple crochet per row instead of a single crochet. I tried the double rowing for this pattern and it worked out nicely but still not as big as I want it to be so I might increase stitch size per row as well. ☺️ Hope this helps!
