Learn how to crochet the Star Stitch 2 DIFFERENT ways in this easy crochet tutorial! When I researched this stitch, I found that there are two main methods of crocheting the star stitch. They both give it a different finished fabric! I'll teach you both methods in ONE video, along with a tip for making sure you don't end up with any clunky holes on the edges.
What can you make with this stitch? You could easily make a star stitch scarf or blanket, but just keep in mind this stitch is NOT reversible so the back won't look as pretty. Things like hats, bags, or pillows would work well since you only see the right side! (Is there a star stitch crochet pattern you would like me to design? Let me know in the comments!!)

i like them both, although i've always used the HDC one since that's the first one i learned. I never saw the sc one till I saw your patterns somewhere else. i'm in the process of making a scarf for someone right now and may give that second one a try so as to get rid of those 'nasty little holes'. thank you!!

I prefer hdc. However, I find this stitch very frustrating. I've watched several tutorials and every single one is different, and I'm never happy with how any turn out. Either I just can't get it or there's a flaw in the stitches, I don't t know which it is. The star itself isn't the problem, it's the edges, I can't seem to get them right, and I'm far from a newbie crocheter. With your method, why not just make your chain I stitch smaller to avoid having having to do that 2 in 1 hdc at the end of row? Would that not eliminate the need to do that? Is there a reason for the stitch count/chain length that I'm not understanding?

You did a fantastic job on this tutorial! I had given up on using the star stitch but now I’m confident I can incorporate it in my baby blanket. Thx!

The HDC method gives you more fabric to weave ends in which is great if you want to alternate colors 👍👍

To be honest, I like them both. I would use both version in the same project for extra texture/design. Beautiful work

I usually watch videos on my TV so I don't comment. However I had to tell you how much I appreciate this video. I was getting the big hole on the side and hated it! Thank you so much! I haven't crocheted in over 40 years so I'm in the practice mode

Helpful tips. Thanks. My question why are you only going into one v before you go into the next three stitches to make the six loops. I saw a video and she said go into the second to last v before you go into the last three v to pull up yarn. Confused 🤔

I did both ways and decide to do a blanket . I started 200 chains, for several rows of stars noticed that each time I added a row the blanket gets wider. What can I do to stop it from getting longer on both side. Please help. Thanks.

I have attempted a blanket in star stitch several times, always end up with extra stitches ,so I decided to make square instead so I can easily rectify

That’s because most people start with a chain row. In this tutorial I start with foundation single crochet. You always need one less stitch when you start with fsc because there is no turning chain to skip.
