I've been doing the crab-stitch for years, but I love this new stitch. It's so much easier and looks great, thank you! Whenever I finish a big project and am kind of burned out, I always go back to dish cloths; they're quick and easy, but also pretty and makes such great gifts. I am not a beginner, (I learned to crochet when I was 12) but you can never stop learning so I enjoy your tutorial. This pattern is a keeper, thanks!

I realize that this video was made in 2014, but I just saw it and I love the way you have done the "twisted cord stitch". I love the fact that is a thinner stitch and gives, what I think, is a nicer looking finish to the washcloths.

The demo of the Crab stitch was clever and I shall be doing it. I also liked the pattern you provided here. Very nice and practical. I am sure others will like it as well. Excellent instruction. Hope you feel better!

Hi! I just want to say thank you for a great video. I've recently become permanently disabled and have taken up crocheting again to keep me busy and entertained. I've found that I enjoy making washcloths and dishcloths, and I've been experimenting with all sorts of different stitches for the main project as well as the borders and trims, and I must say that I enjoyed this one the most! I love that the border is so much easier than the crab stitch, and I like the sturdiness of the half shell pattern. EVERYONE on my Christmas list will each be getting a set of these washcloths this year. :)

Came across your small washcloth pattern with the mini shell stitch and the border stitch finishes it off very nicely. I couldn't wait to get started. love doing small crochet go to projects as I watch my soap or tv. I am making a set of 7 for my family member as a house warming gift. and I really like the "twisted stitch". Thank you for your video, I have added to my Pinerest & my favorites here.

We have a standard knitted wash cloth all over the place here at craft fair season. I make and sell home made soap and use them to wrap the soap as a gift set. I have been making soap savers and a lady does some nice crochet wash cloths at the flea market which i buy (as all the proceeds go to the IWK hospital for children). I am opening a store and was looking for something nice. Something different to offer customer. I think i just found it. I can do lots but i think if i give the pattern to the flea market lady she can help me keep them "in stock" at the shop. Thank so much for your time and the upload. And this craft fair season will have a little something special this year ;-)

The tiny shells are lovely :) ....and the new border stitch is pretty darn cool! I am a big fan of finishing off various projects with the crab stitch, so it was interesting to learn a new way to do it. Basically, you're twisting the stitch before you complete the single crochet! Should be called "the Twisted Stitch", heh :P~ p.s. Merry Christmas!

I made a beautiful evening bag and some dish cloths with variegated yarn and plain border. they are so I pretty. I kept getting your border stitch too tight and not nice and even like yours, so did single crochet then a slip stitch row.

Thank you for the video. I think you've explained everything well, except I am confused when I come to the end of a row and need to find the second chain, and when I find it, how to go through it. Can't quite see what's happening in the video.
@dgcore288 жыл бұрын
+soEmmazing it looks like a tiny loop right beside the last single crochet of the crab stitch in the previous row. I hope you've figured that out by now though darling. If not hopefully this helps!

Well I must be the only one on planet earth who can't do this stitch! Everytime I try, it puts overly large holes in my work that I'm not happy with. Not sure why I can't seem to work it up. It is beautiful when finished though. Wish I could do it! 😊

Jolindsay13 what size hook are you using?
@Jolindsay138 жыл бұрын
I used more stitches then 22, but I did an even number. mine is turning out like a rainbow.
@knitandcrocheteverafter8 жыл бұрын
+Jolindsay13 If it looks like a rainbow, it sounds like you may be adding stitches somewhere. Are you skipping all the stitches on each row and working only in the CH2 spaces?
@lhimalcolm248 жыл бұрын
+Jolindsay13 I'm making crochet dinner napkins with this stitch (my friend requested them...very creative!) and mine went all rainbow too. I have a long foundation row (it was initially ch. 46) but I realised that it was WAYYYYY too tight and that was creating a rainbow effect because there are so many stitches (2 single crochets + 2 chains) in every second chain. SO...after much frustration and scratching of my head, I made the stitches in my foundation row about a chain and a half in width to my normal chain stitch and now it's ch. 38 for a final width of ch. 34...does that make sense? Like way looser. (I normally make my chains in the foundation row approximately the width of my hook.) It really helped!!!!! I wish I could show you a picture, but LONG STORY SHORT: try a looser foundation row. It might help!!! I also have a sneaking suspicion that everything will straighten out once I've completed 4 or 5 rows. Right now I've re-done the foundation chain and first 2 rows about three times in order to try to eliminate the rainbow! hahaha It doesn't help that I'm actually using a rainbow-coloured yarn!!!
@Jolindsay138 жыл бұрын
+Lynn La Saga thank you for the tip! I also started using stitch markers at both ends which helped me too.
@Mzdiana828 жыл бұрын
Chain loosely on your foundation row. Mine did the same thing but after the 4th row it looked right.
@sarahmw19838 жыл бұрын
why is mine curving?
@knitandcrocheteverafter8 жыл бұрын
+Sarah Watkins Is it curving in or out? If in, you are losing stitches somewhere, if curving out, then you are adding stitches. If you can take a clear picture and post it to my facebook page I can try to see where it is going wrong. :)
@sarahmw19838 жыл бұрын
+Crochet Ever After I just noticed you replied back lol oops I think I got it now. :) thank you!

If anyone is having issues on the edging getting the stitches spaced correctly, what I do is try to line up the crab stitches up with the end stitches of each row so I have the same amount of crab stitches as I do rows. I do that with any edging really. Also if you are having trouble pulling the last stitch throug hi pull up the loop on the my hook ever so slightly before I go under the next stitch to make the next crab. Hope that helps!
@dgcore288 жыл бұрын
For an experienced hooker I must say you talk wayyyy to much and that can make something simple into something more difficult for some people.i A friend sent me here to check out this new method to a crab stitch and I will say that's very cool, so props for that! Sorry hope I didn't offend.

I don't think she talked way too much - and believe me there are Instructos that talk way too much about off topic or they talk *way* too fast. Mikey from the crochet crowd is a good teacher but talks *and* crochets way too fast for an instructor...it's like he drank a gallon of Red Bull before he starts the video...lol. For fast talkers, I go to the setting of the video I'm watching and slow it down and it's perfect - I was fooling around with it one day and I put Mikey on (I think) the slowest speed and it was hilarious...he totally sounded drunk. LOL
