It’s just making your stitches in the back bump of the chain stitch row instead of the loops. Makes your beginning edge and ending edge look the same. It’s easier if you make your chain using a hook one size larger than the size your project calls for.

I learned this as crocheting in the back hump or bump. It gives it a nicer edge. You just have to be careful not to crochet the stitches too tightly. I'm glad you are sharing this. I think everyone who learns it will be glad to know it. 😻✌🏻🧶

I like the finished look of using the back bump, especially if you’re using the hacks to keep the sides straight too. That way the piece has a more finished look without having to do a border. Thank you for this video. 💜🫂💜

I love the back bump technique. Ever since I learned it I don't crochet another way. I'm on the tight side side so for the chain I always use a hook that is size bigger than the one I'm going to be using. That way I'm sure I won't be struggling with the back bumps

That was great! I like the finished look of stitching through the back bump, but it gets pretty hard. Love the idea of a larger hook for the foundation chain. That was such a nice demonstration, it doesn’t need any translation. Plus the viewer can have Google translate just my touching the right “button”. Good job.

I have many patterns that specify. Sometimes it's written as BLO (back loop only). Others write it in words explaining it often times as the 'back bump'. If you use it other than the foundation row, it will give you an interesting texture depending on your pattern. ENJOY - and experiment!! 👍

There's a better than than even this. The chain and coming back is fine simultaneously instead of chaining then turning and going all the way back. Ends up first row is done with the chain. It looks better then rolling to the back looking for knobs too. 😊

A question: Do you change to a larger hook after the first 2 chains and then back to the smaller hook for the last 2 chains? I am a beginner😊
@kimbo500
@kimbo500 Ай бұрын
I don't know if this helps. I have only seen someone use a larger hook for the entire foundation row, not just for specific chains. They do so when they know they usually work with a tighter tension, because I've heard that it can make things a bit tighter. I personally don't change my hook size at all when I am working in a 'back loop', but I am also lucky and don't have an issue with a tighter tension anyway. If you don't get a specific answer to your question here, I'd encourage you to experiment with both ways that you are asking about....and see what you like best. There is probably something very valid to it though, because with Tunisian crochet....most people suggest automatically going up at least 1 hook size when it's a Tunisian pattern. (Otherwise it gets very tight for them to work with). Good luck - I know you will find the fit for you!! 👍

No. She demonstrated 2 ways of getting a looser starting chain. The first way is to chain loosely without tightening the chains as you go. The second way is to use a hook one size up to get looser chains. She does this so that when she goes back to the smaller hook she is able to get the hook into the back bumps easily. Hope this helps!

Yes. The other hook was a demonstration to get looser stitches. She started off crocheting loosely and switched to a size larger in order to show another method of getting those looser stitches. Its done so that you can easily get your smaller hook into the back bumps (aka: camel humps, at least in my region we call them that. Not to be mistaken for the "camel stitch" which is totally different) I hope this helps.

I mean if she/he doesn't have the ability to translate or whatever their reason - and I wasn't already aware of BLO....I would just be happy to see that there is a cleaner way to work a foundation. If I couldn't figure it out on my own, I would show it to someone else who may be able to.
