Crocht Vlog: More Hooded Scarves and a mini Yarn Review (Also I abandoned a project)

New sub, and I just bought the pattern for that hooded shawl. Red Heart yarn is hit or miss as regards scratchy factor, but I don’t mind it. Sadly, I have too many projects to get done before I can get to it! And I crochet slowly. That red & black is calling my name!

Im new to crochet and have been using red heart quite a bit due to it being cheap and with me being new its all an experiment and i havent had a waxy feel or seen the white in the middle of the yarn. That might be something specific to the granny square stuff. It looks really cool in the scarves though so i might have to give it a go.

Oh this is good feedback so it is very likely specific to how they made the granny square skeins all of mine have had the waxy/sticky feel and the odd dye issues and then all have different lot numbers but clearly it has not stopped me from using them lol

@@HaylieNyght I did notice that it's leaving a weird waxy film on my hooks, but the Cyber Leaf color way did not seem to have the issue of the white core. And it's not all the Red Heart colors that are weird... For example, the solid black felt awful, but the grey was actually not as bad. It kinda just seems really hit or miss, so if you're not buying it in person, it really feels like a gamble.

@thewho127 Oh interesting, so red heart might have some weird dying process. The good news is it can be removed with washing cause after the first wash the weird waxiness was gone from my projects. Just have to be okay with it while I’m working with it.

I knew as soon as you showed the scarf i knew it was the all-in-one granny sqaure yarn, it does work up nicely in that pattern. I have the cyber leaf skein (making the vest on the label). I JUST bought a pattern similar to this Wild Oleander, but it uses bulky weight yarn.
