When you said "that hurts me" after reading how they make the granny square. I felt that in my soul. I prefer tight looking granny squares so I usually go down a size in hook size AND i like chaining 2 and starting with a magic circle. Ive managed to make it work fortunately. They sell this at jo anns now.

I feel like they should have added like 4 more inches to the last color. Just to accommodate for weaving in the end. I find myself having to go down a hook size in order to have enough of that color to weave in.

I had yarn like that. It was a bernat blanket yarn? Made like some kinda plaid print?? Something like you had to do EXACTLY 15 sc for each color change. No more no less or it wouldn't work. Even said to go up or down a hook size if you weren't getting it exactly right. But that was it. Worked up really fast. Super soft. But the colors spotted something fierce. I mean. I got it as a gift and my cat decided it was his so. I can't complain lol but definitely wouldn't buy it unless it was on super sale.

Your tension obviously relaxes as you speed along, since the the purple row, so you probably should have sized down a hook at that point on the first square. I think this yarn would be great for beginners using the exact pattern given and learning to control their tension and be consistent. It gives a great visual reference for whether they're being consistent. You're not used to having to follow a granny in a way that you don't normally do plus you magic circle start so it may not be a yarn you'll enjoy. (Just finished watching so wanted to say I'm so glad you kept at it! I agree, it makes very pretty squares and yay no ends except beginning and ending ones! LOL. It does require some inital adjustments but then you can really roll!)

@@dianasturcz5 Im sure OP will get back to you- but what I assume she meant was slip stitching by not yarning over going into the next stich yarn over go out of the stich and pull through the 2 loops on your hook, keep doing this around (im assuming in your double crochet stiches that make up the granny) until you are at the right colour then you slip stich into the nearest gap in the granny sqaure chain 2 (counts as first double crochet) and continue your granny as normal

It’s amazing how much variation there is for each individual trying to get this yarn to work. I needed to use a 4.5 mm for the center row and then switched to a 5 mm for rounds 2-5. On rounds 4&5 I needed to tighten up my stitches but not so tight that I could go back to a 4.5 mm hook. I made sure that i had 3 inches of the 5 th color to tie off. Each skein gave me 15 blocks. With each block it got easier and I had 30 blocks done in a days time. I hate sewing in ends so this concept is awesome for me and if I can buy it on sale the hassle of tensioning is worth it.

Toni, I thank you so much for this video. I was seriously thinking of trying this yarn. In theory, it seems like a dream idea. No colour changes, or end weaving. But you know what they say about things seeming too good to be true. I love grannies too, but not keen on their pattern at all, and I like picking my own colour scheme. This yarn might be great for some people, but it's just not for me. The biggest turn off would be the constant pulling out rounds to adjust tension. That would seriously get on my nerves. Again, thank you. You saved me money and hassle. Cheers!

It was cheaper than Joann and anywhere else online, but since then about 2 weeks ago, they clearanced it for $4 a skein and now it’s all gone! 😢. I am sad that it had such a short run. I think too many people didn’t try hard enough at first and gave up on it too soon. There’s a pattern called Spun Gold, a fingering weight shawl pattern that uses one skein of yarn. It relies primarily on sc and really tall stitches. To keep tension the same on those rows of really tall stitches, I was changing hooks sometimes two or more times within the row. Sure, it was a pain, but it is one of my favorite shawls.

I (like you)love grannies 😊. I've not gotten the "bug" or desire to buy this yarn though. I think it's bc I'd rather make one huge granny blanket, than make alot of smaller squares and then have to stitch them together. I think I'd rather bury (weave in)ends, than join them. Even joining as I go. That's just personal preference. Your grannies turned out SO PRETTY 😍! I kept thinking how great a blanket would look in all of the more bright colors you made 😊. Glad your video popped up in my feed 🤓.

It all depends on your tension and hook size etc.. I tried a few different hooks, followed the directions, but I found what worked for me is 5mm hook 2 ch in corners , no ch between clusters. I still have to undo and re adjust my tension sometimes.. and I join the colours with a hdc in the corner, so I start with ch3 and then only do 2 more dc in the corner then 3 in each etc.. I like crocheting more than I like weaving in ends, so undoing a half round or even a full round it’s still better than all the ends 😂 oh and I steam blocked mine ..

When I saw this yarn I was really excited but also doubtful of how it would work out. Thanks for making this review, I love that you are very honest too! I will try to get my hands on this yarn in the future for sure.

i had the same problem when i tried the yarn, where the first 2 rounds were loose and the rest i had to work a lot tighter tension :/ but this makes me wanna give it a second attempt!

Omg that black/purple colourway is the best. I wish we could get this yarn in the UK. :( ❤ Loved this video, so informative. You had so much patience with it at the beginning xx

I’ve used this yarn for 4 projects now. You do have to fudge a little here and there. If you adjust the cluster size to 2dc or 4dc clusters here and there, it is less notable than the colors bleeding together.

I’m glad the yarn ended up working for you in the end, it seems frustrating and not like an idea that would really work but with practice it turned out ok. At first I was surprised you bought so many skeins I was like “try it first before you spend $60 on yarn!” 😂 but I’m glad you used the rest of the yarn and showed us!

I had to go down to a 4.5 for the first 4 rows and a 4 for the last to make it work. I have loose tension though. I did follow their pattern.
