Good Morning Tessie and friends, Today looks to be another bright and sunny day and I'll be out and about working in my garden. Have lots to do to get ready for planting. I'll be mowing the lawn for the second time all this rain has made it grow out faster this year as all other things. Yesterday I was out side getting ready to put out our wood table with folding umbrella and matching wood chairs. I painted the umbrella stand gloss white so that it looks fresh and clean. I am making a small fire pit that I'm going to use for cooking. I do have a gas grill that I use as well. Today I'll be mowing the lawn for the second time as the grass has grown out fast with all this rain. It looks to be good weather next few days with lots of sun and I'm taking full advantage to get as much done as I can before it rains again on Friday. The weekend is looking better. Before I start on anything I'll be off to staples with Mom for a new printer as our printer has stopped working so I'll be a bit busy with that. That's life with tech. It will get done. The days are longer and I'll have more time to be out side. Soon I'll be going out to the beach on nice days. It's nice to walk the beach collecting shells and colorful stones. Swimming in the ocean it's so refreshing. I also love walking in the woods so peaceful listening to the different bird song smelling the flora at one with nature. Have a wonderful Wednesday. God Bless you love you all. Keep smiling :)

Oh Tessie, The old American Sun Oven can be rained on. Mine even got blown off of the table last week (we have very high winds). I picked it up, took the big huge sweet potato out and it was done. I was scared when I saw it, but there was no damage. I am in a quandary about getting rid of my crock pot because I have an Instant pot now and it works as a crock pot also. I have really used the crock pot over the years and am sort of attached to it. :-) I see that your seeder works, the one I tried was not good and I gave up on it. I just hand plant my little garden now since it is just me and I limit the number of plants to fit me. i.e. I only have two tomato plants usually one Roma and one cherry. Love to eat beets, but hate to clean them. The kitchen is usually red all over when I am finished. No wonder women want summer kitchens. Wow, you are productive. I am going out tomorrow and transplant my herbs, celery plants, and a few other things to the garden area. I have to. They are getting too hot in the greenhouse now. It seems like if you don't get things in at the right time or at least close, the plants have to adjust. You have inspired me again and I hope to have a good garden this year. My asparagus poked up on Easter and gave me two stalks, but nothing since. I get so excited when I see nature doing its thing. The birds and bees (is that politically correct?) are all very busy building nests where they are not supposed to be. Have a great Wednesday everyone. M

Tess, I'm a 64 year old lady that in the last 17 years discovered canning. I'm ashamed to say that I only dabbled in it some. I even bought a presser canner about 10 years ago to learn. I have a great fear of this canner. I wouldn't even use a reg stovetop pressure cooker for fear. I don't know why I fear them. Now, when I watch your videos, I've really seen the importance of storing and doing deeper food storage. But still i haven't used that canner! I really dont know anyone else that cans, that could help me. I feel like I have failed. I guess I just wanted you to know you are a blessing and hopefully you'll be able to help others get over that fear of canners. I keep hoping that I am not unreachable. Thanks for all you do teach.

Love your video. Question right now I’ve only got a raised bed and some containers for my garden. Our land has never been used for gardening. Advice on how to break up land. What do I add to soil ? You may have to be very simplistic in your advice I’ve never really done this before? We have a lot of clay in our soil is all I know. Thank you!
@charlottejerome94185 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I think I had heard this. The raised beds and potting soil is just starting to get expensive. I was looking at maybe an area of 20 ft by 20ft for now. We have 7/10 of an acre but we do have to be careful of underground lines. Will have to have power co mark so I don’t mess up. Back yard has significant slope so I was going to just do front yard . We are very rural so no ordinances. So if I till it up what else will I need to do with it this year if I won’t actually grow things.

Charlotte, if you are strong enough, go to feed store and get a bale or two of straw, (if it is too heavy - like for me- cut the string holding it and take a cake at a time-it seems to come out in square clumps. Depending on where you are (I am Zone6), it is a little late for this year, but put about 4-6" (they say 12") and it will kill everything at 12" and you can plant after loosening it up. I use this every year because I have rocks and clay and it never seems to get better - been working it for 9 years now. This started for me because of the chickens. When you clean out the bedding from the chicken coop, put it on your future garden bed and it is fantastic - but can't put it directly on garden that is growing - it will burn. Good luck - or just hire someone to till it up for you :-)

That is one slick machine! Herbs look so lush, wished we had smell-o-vision! Rub your hand over them and inhale for me please. A sun oven is something I am thinking about. Quite the investment. Great video, love you and the wisdom you impart. Courage, Barbara in Maine
