It was a beautiful morning here in North Herefordshire... thick frost on the ground, a sprinkling of snow covering the higher places and not a cloud in the sky. Nothing for it, when locked down, but to grab the camera kit and head out for a walk to a local beauty spot to admire the amazing views over Herefordshire, Shropshire and Powys, Wales.
Croft Ambrey is the remains of an Iron Age Hill Fort that was occupied from 600BC to approximately 50AD. It's not hard to see why they chose this spot as two sides are protected by a very steep bank and the other sides are a shallow gradual slope that wouldn't offer much cover for approaching enemies.
Not to mention the epic views which even 2000 years ago must have warranted some consideration!
Croft Ambrey sits on the Mortimer Trail which is a well known local walk from the historic market town of Ludlow in Shropshire to Kington, in Herefordshire.
