i have an antique board my Mom bought 40 years ago. It was old when she bought it. Does anyone know how long this game has been around? I had no idea they still played it today.
@jillianwebster191410 жыл бұрын
The game has existed since the Victorian Era :)
@andrewwilliams98755 жыл бұрын
The earliest known board is from 1876, but is possible that the game predates this in other forms. There are also some precursor games from other parts of the world so the question of it's origin is a bit murky.

If there are no opponent discs on the board and you have a disc in the ten ring, if you bump that disc into the 15 circle, that counts the same as flicking your disc straight into the 15 circle? All my discs remain on the board correct?
@skelter7415 жыл бұрын
Correct. You interacted with a disc that remained/touched the 15 circle so it is a valid shot. Sorry, I know your reply is old but added for the benefit of others that might have same question.

Which software you are using to edit the video

Sarang Thorat, it's been four years since I recorded this video, so I'm not sure how I did the editing. I believe I used the editing tools within KZbin at the time.

Yep. In the video, there was a MAN (to the viewer's left) and a WOMAN (to the viewer's right) playing. Would it have been better if I'd used "HE" in referring to the woman? Perhaps the one crying "foul" is the one who is the true sexist, encouraging gender-neutral pronouns when they aren't appropriate.

In answer to Michael Doyle: My reaction would be "no; the disk a player shoots must strike an opponent's disk if there are any on the board. If there are no disks if the opponent on the board, the disk being shot must land, at least partially inside the circle of pegs." I, however, am no authority on this. As mentioned in the video, there are regional variations of the rules, even on issues involving disks being shot when the opponent has no disks on the board. DOES ANYONE ELSE have an opinion on this question? For a more expert opinion, I refer you to www.thespruce.com/the-complete-rules-for-the-board-game-crokinole-411303 where it states: "Shooting With No Opponent's Discs on the Board The first shooter, and any subsequent shooter who takes his turn with no opponent's discs on the board tries to shoot into the 20 Hole. If a disc lands completely within the hole, it's removed and set aside for scoring at the end of the round. If the disc doesn't fall into the 20 Hole but remains on the board, and is either in the 15 Zone or at least touching the 15 Zone line, it remains on the board. If there are no opponent's discs on the board and a shooter's disc winds up in the 10 Zone or the 5 Zone, it's removed from the board. This rule is designed to prevent players from being excessively defensive by "hiding" their discs behind pegs. Some players don't use this rule, but it is used at the World Crokinole Championship."

@@fraist1, "they" is a plural pronoun. If I used "they," I'd be grammatically incorrect. Recheck the video. See a WOMAN'S hands? I stand by what I said in the video.
@fraist14 жыл бұрын
TheRetiredCPO “they” can be used for when we, the viewers, do not know whether the referred person is a male or female. So if you you used “they” you would not have been grammatically incorrect.
@TheRetiredCPO4 жыл бұрын
@@fraist1, I would have been grammatically incorrect. Why? Because I KNOW my wife's gender. "They" IS and "they" identifies as female, hence the pronoun "she" instead of "they." [See how stupid using "they" sounds when one (in this case, the speaker) KNOWS the gender of the person to whom the pronoun refers?] And, yes, I used the singular verbs "is" and "identifies" (grammatically correct) since "they" is being used as a singular pronoun.
