I think Spike Lee's most underappreciated asset is his set decoration. In almost every film you can practically see a story forming in his character's homes.

Ghost in the graveyard in my neighbourhood: Everyone had to lie down on the ground. The ghost went around and tried to catch someone moving. You could try to make people move, but you couldn't touch them. Making people laugh was easiest. If you moved, you became a ghost too. Last one left won.

My family used to play Ghost in the Graveyard. For us, we would have the ghosts hide and have ghost hunters find them. When they are spotted the ghosts would try to catch the ghost hunters before they made it back to base and whoever would be caught would be the ghosts next round. Very much like how Craig described it.

Rear Window remains one of my favorite movies of all time. I remember once, back when my mom was going to college and my brother and sister and I were very young and she'd have to bring us along, usually to hang out in the library or a nearby arcade or something. At the library, where I experienced laser disc for the first and only time, we had to agree on a movie to watch to spend the time while she was in class. There were some Disney cartoons we'd seen a million times and a couple of classics, but the only one my brother and sister and I could agree to watch was Rear Window, because we all loved it. We were pretty cool little kids.

Guy with the glasses just doesn't get it. This is a typical black family feeling with life in Brooklyn during the 70's. Parents arguing and siblings fighting is no big deal. I had the same experience of going away during the summer to a relatives house I barely knew. They were in Richmond and exactly like Troy's extended family. The choice spike Lee made to change the look was perfect. I completely understood it. It summed up exactly how I felt being there those 2 weeks.

I remember playing Ghosts in the Graveyard too, but I also totally forgot the rules. Just that you had to play at night and you counted down hours to Midnight and then running and or hiding was involved. Either way, I feel it was mostly just about the spooky fun vibe of chasing each other in the dark.

Pennsylvanian experience with Ghost in the Graveyard: I played once a year at a family reunion on my uncle’s farm. For us, it was very much like hide and seek tag but in the dark. So you have the player who is the seeker and they count loud enough for us to hear and hide. If you’re found by the seeker, you run like hell without getting tagged to the designated safe spot (the porch) OR the seeker can choose to camp at the safe spot and try to tag you as you approach. Good times.

Thanks for reading my "Seen It" question, also! Going to the movies, back in the late 70s/80s. was a big family outing. Mom and Dad would watch a grown-up flick, while the 5 kids would be sent to watch a kids movie. I was the oldest at 11, and didn't want to watch kids movies anymore, and convinced the folks to let me join them. "Breaking Away" was that first grown-up film, and I'll always remember that. Any early movie going experiences that have stuck with you?

When I played Ghost in the Graveyard in my daycare, there would be a small group of people that were it. The others would, in the darkened gym, walk around while the "it" group weren't looking at them. If you were caught, you were out.
@coopercox93943 жыл бұрын
We played Ghosts in The Graveyard in gym class, but it was an adaptation of tag. One ghost plays tag when the gym lights are off with the whole class, and as people get tagged, they become ghosts as well. But when the gym lights are on, all the ghosts have to lay on the ground as those still alive try to gain space from the ghosts. Lights go back off, and the game of tag continues until there's only 1 person left. If we played it outside, it would definitely have more hide-and-seek qualities.

I seem to remember ghost in the graveyard being a game in which one person would go hide somewhere while any number of people would close their eyes and count to a number, and then they would all split up and seek to find the one hiding also known as the ghost. Upon finding the ghost a person would yell "GHOST IN THE GRAVEYARD!" and then everyone would have to run back to a base, where everyone was counting, before getting tagged by the ghost, or they would then become the ghost for the next round.

Mine was similar to Craig's explanation. We also called the game "Werewolf". A group of people would leave a 'base' to go out in the dark and find the "ghost" or "werewolf". As soon as someone saw the person hiding, they would scream "werewolf" or "ghost" and run back to base. If anyone got tagged, they would be the new hider.

Also watched Rear Window for the first time a few months ago and I loved, loved, loved it. Agreed on the perfect movie bit. But my Persian flaw is a different one. It's in the very beginning when they are panning over various objects in his room: articles about a photographer, various photography equipment, etc. I just found it to be very lazy exposition, unnecessary and also a bit unrealistic that someone living there would arrange these objects like this. On a more personal note, I want to say hello to the basement! I used to be a monthly donor (Filip), but around a year ago I stopped doing it, because Matt looked intensely unhappy and I felt that by giving money I was contributing to the Prolongation of Matt's Misery. I still can't watch those episodes again because I just get so sad. I am very happy to see that Matt looks much, much more happy these days. Another reason is my worsening economical situation. In any case, much love from Sweden, still watching!

Ghost: the person who’s it counts outside of a single room. The people inside the room hide and turn off the lights, and you basically have to play at night. The it person tries to find the people in the dark, and the first one found is now it. It’s effectively hide and go seek in the dark in one room, but there’s no base and no running. It was one of my favorite games as a kid.

My guess is that you guys would want a viewer to use your show as a supplement, rather than a substitute, for watching the movie, but I'm afraid I fully go the substitute route. Is it some sort of heresy to say that once I've watched an episode of your show I feel like I've seen the movie, and sometimes in a way that's richer than if I had watched it without you? Yeah, that must be wrong, but it works for me.

Oh I absolutely agree about the Oscars. Without the clips or the visuals it was SO dull. Before Covid I like to hold Oscar parties, where I would have friends over and we would guess what movies would win what categories. For the first time, I am glad I couldn’t have people over. It was so forgettable and practically IMPOSSIBLE to guess which film would win based off of titles alone. I really hope this was some money saving practice in light of Covid, because I do not want to keep watching if they do it like that again.
