there's no way on earth those put out 15000 hp. I worked around crop dusters back in the 80's and they were the same then as they are now. Depending on the air intake system they about 450 hp to 550 hp. Even saying they were putting out 1500 hp would be a stretch but 15000...that gal needs to quit smoking weed 😵‍💫

There are a few thousand yellow Ag planes operating in the U.S. Most of them are either Air Tractor or Thrush and most of them are now Turbine powered. Things are happening very fast at the level and speeds they fly at. I bet every person on this thread who drives has at one time or another mis- judged their distance with another vehicle and almost / or did have a collision. People need to look in the mirror first before being critical of this pilot. The Ag operator in the interview threw one of his fellow pilots under the bus and what you sow is what you reap. I wonder if the pilot who who flew close to the semi is in any way his direct competition? Ag pilots are a small fraternity and normally would not do this to each other.

Even though AG Pilots are some of the best in the world, they are human beings. They get it wrong sometimes. AG flying is the most dangerous and demanding type of civilian aviation with the possible exception of aerobatic flying, which is it's close cousin. Generally areobatic pilots don't spend 8 hours a day, 5 days a week doing low altitude loops and spins for a living. I'm guessing this was an emergency manuever based on his flight path, powerlines and tower in the video. He was looking where he was going, not at the truck. Pilot probably mis-judged his location when intitaing his run or had a control, altitude or alignment issue mid flight, and had to cross the highway at low altitude to avoid CFIT into a tower or the powerlines in front of him. Those "15,000 HP" (lol) turbo-prop air-tractors are moving FAST (135 mph+) and LOW. Their runs generally only last a few seconds, they must be pin-point accurate. Time is litterally money in commercial aviation, so AG pilots are under enormous time pressure to git- 'er done quickly. Things happen VERY FAST and there is vanishingly small margin for error. No way he was deliberately playing chicken with Semi unless he was suicidal. Pilots that reckless rarely advance past Cessna 150s before washing out of flying - usually by augering in.

Rational comments however his poor planning on how to fly this field could have cost him life. Flying under power lines vs working around them is not very smart. I have worked with aerial applicators for 40 years this type of flying will eventually catch up with this operator. There are old pilots and bold pilots but no old, bold pilots!

It looks like he's about to go under those power lines too. I don't think he would be wanting to stay down that low if he were planning to fly over them. Wouldn't you have started to pull up by that time, especially if you were going to have to pull up immediately anyway to get over the lines? Is it illegal to fly under power lines? I would imagine it would be highly illegal..

Watch the video very closely at the 0:15 Marker. Look at the High line Tower in the picture. The pilot was do what Ag Pilots do many times a day which is FLY UNDER Powerlines when they have a choice. It is much safer to fly under the lines than to climb over them if the lines are high enough. I can tell that many people making comments on this thread have never been directly involved with AG Aviation. Read FAR Part 137 before commenting.

call the Indianapolis FSDO - flight standards district office. They might tell you “file a complaint” but you may also have better luck talking to someone at a local facility, rather than relying on someone in DC to do paperwork properly. When a pilot does something stupid, the FSDO is often the first who wants to see them and their logbook.

Nope they dont care because it is legal You dont own the air we can fly at any height in the course of our job that we deem safe Considering no one was hurt id say he did a good job Sometimes thing go wrong the pilot cannot control the traffic and one video angle and no other opposing story is just typical media trying to bury someone for ratings. What we do is dangerous, i have nearly died on many occasions and the fact that people are complaining is really discouraging me from trying to protect crops to put food on these peoples tables. And putting the details of one particle company on a video that may not have anything to do with this is just totally disgusting. Just think next time you buy a loaf of bread or eat some corn about how nice it is free of disease and insect infestation! Or better yet if you disagree maybe grow your own food and stop being a hypocrite and enjoying food that only 1 person risks their life for, that person is the aerial application pilot. No one else who produces food for the world is in as much danger!

You nailed it!!…. A bunch of wawa’s , never really been out and about much. I was driving down the highway in the Miss delta and was watching this crop duster working the fields, when he came up over the tree line near the highway he winged it over and instead of making another pass he leveled the wings and landed it on the highway about a 1/4 mile in front of me as the engine had stopped. I whipped off the highway into the grass as the wingtip passed my pickup. I looked in the rear view mirror and he managed to coast into a turn off. I went back and pilot was getting out of the cockpit, he apologized and said he hoped he didn’t scare me. I said, not in the slightest and offered to help him out. He said that when pulled up over the trees, the engine had sputtered and died, he had just enough airspeed to set it down, he couldn’t have been more than 500 ft above the ground at that time, other crashing, the highway was his only landing option. His ground crew showed up within a few minutes. He was a very nice guy. For me it was no biggie, just a guy in trouble with limited options.

What y'all need to be talking about is a driver with his cell phone not paying attention to the road, which is ALSO against the law. Instead of worrying that an ag pilot is suddenly suicidal while doing his job, which feeds you, btw. Yeah, he was too low with traffic coming. But, HE knew he had plenty of time, even if the cars who act like they've never seen or heard of crop dusters, feel the need to cry about it. You also don't have cross traffic coming at you with no warning, since there are these lovely things called intersections you cross at, where they always yield to the highway. And if someone did blow through an intersection with less then 3 feet to spare from a semi who could clip them if any single thing goes wrong, I would also call them a fucking idiot for not giving them a safe clearance. Much less a plane that's flying across the road with no sort of warning, no sort of signalling, no signage warning people to stop for low flying aircraft like you would see around a country airport, and generally being reckless to the point where if he got hit by the Semi the only person who would be found at fault in the FAA report would be him.
