"The Viking" and "Carrollton" are the two unknown marches.

for many of these bands, you're not going to change the military marching style. The tradition is deeply rooted in the school and community. In fact, there are some corps bands that are returning to military style. I love corps bands but i'd rather see a fine military band than a crappy corps band and there are plenty of crappy corps bands in this area.

@XTALKTOTHEGUNX -idk...there are quite a few military bands seeing as that was the only style before core was added in the 70s giving more fluctuation

FESTIVAL prelude fanfare... the announcer is a bit hard to understand.

The problem is that they are judged together. There needs to be two different contests. How can you judge them against each other? Have the top ones put on a big show or something and let fans decide who they like more.

Vidor High School's military marching band is probably in the top five bands in the state of Texas. ( That is military marching bands)

This is just an observation. The woodwinds in this band play better than the brass players but as a whole the band needs to work on tuning ALOT. I bet the kids would enjoy it more with better music and less military marching style. Just one person's opinion.

Those are all bands who have made it to the FINALS from your area. Look up those bands and bands like The Colony, Gregory-Portland and Dickinson and tell me you are even in their league. They are all 4-A bands that are consistantly great and make it to state. I live in YOUR community and have talked to kids in YOUR band. Alot of them would disagree with you. Loving the military has nothing to do with how you guys play and march.

lol....It is obvious that you are a brass player.....Probably low brass if I had to guess. I doubt you were alive in the 80's so I would ask where you are getting your information. Having competed at the STATE level, I can tell you there are plenty of great bands in your area that march corps style. Ever heard of Westfield? La Porte was really awesome for a long time as well. Let's not forget Port Neches Grove.

They moved to 5A in 2008. I would hardly call that a "while". Look, I am going to agree to disagree with you because of your limited knowledge on the subject. Check out Dickinson's show this year and eductae yourself. Which class a band is in does not limit them to how well they play. Just like playing loud does not make you a monster player. 10 people playing IN TUNE will project more than 30 playing out of tune. There is a difference between playing loud and projecting. Go practice kid.

@PR3ST0N333 lol.....I would know military style. I marched it for 13 years as an Army trumpet player. You amuse me. You judge me without knowing my background while I am very aware of yours.

MY5579 the modern military style bands at High school level march and the military are NOT the same. Same principles and fundamentals and that is about it.

If corps marching is so crappy, why are they the ones that consistantly win state?
