In memory of David Crosby, who passed away a few days ago. There he was, with Stephen Stills, Graham Nash and Neil Young. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young were giving a rare performance of “Cinnamon Girl” at the 2000 Farm Aid concert, backed by Donald “Duck” Dunn on bass and Jim Keltner on drums. I can only envy those who were there at the show.

Crosby played 8 miles high; Stills, for what it’s worth; Nash- bus stop from the Hollies; Young, broken arrow from Buffalo Springfield, plus many of their CSNY hits- nearly 3 spectacular hours! I heard a young man in front of me who had been crabbing with his father about the concert, when they hit one of their famous harmonies. He blurted out “These guys can SING’

A staggering level of self-limitation afflicts so many listeners. Any genre. Folks hear a homogenized studio version of one song and 30 years later they act as if the song and artist has been entombed in ice until the moment they heard something different. Once the new version is heard, they get angry and dismissive like they walked on their spouse and best friend in bed! Dark Star, Jerry!!! Dark Star........

*News flash: Thousands of people paid him to come and hear what's on the album, not his warped rendition because he's bored on the road from doing it the same way each night. Neil's a cajillionaire. He has no idea about the "common" man. And notice Stills doesn't have 100 picks on his boom stand.

Cinnamon Girl is monumental yet so simple and primal . The tempo is a bit slow in this performance though. Young wrote great meaningful song lyrics and had hit singles he sang and others covered . as far as musicianship goes imho Stephen Stills was the most versatile and best musician of CSNY & Manasses
