I have seen Neil literally a dozen times live over the years, with CSN, Prairie Wind, the awesome rock opera Greendale... but when he is with his hand picked back up band of 40 plus years, Crazy Horse, you can feel that Neil is with family, and he becomes totally comfortable and truly lets his muse take over. Which is why his best songs and most known hits decade after decade after decade is with his homies.

Not a music expert, and before I write my thoughts on this video, let it be known. I seen Willie and Family live 3 times, I seen Neil and Crazy horse twice, would have been 3 times, but he got sick and had to cancel his show at the St Paul Civic Center because he was sick, and had to stay at a local hospital. All Along the Watch Tower by Hendrix has been my number 1 song since I first heard it in 76. And I also cry everytime I watch Neil close out the Canadian olympics. If I put the 4 or 5 greatest singers of all time, on a stage with who I feel are the 4 or 5 greatest guitarists of all time. Then put Neil in the mix for that, I will walk away remember Neil just for his presence and passion alone. Which brings me to the song of Green Grass and High Tides. When I hear that song, I think of Hendrix, Joplin, Elvis, Sinatra, and yes, Neil Peart. However, I also think of Young being on that stage commanding the whole damn thing, because that is what Neil did without even trying, He just commanded the whole damn stage. Thank you Neil Young for letting me be a part of your life, even though it was only from a distance.

Neil Young does a great job of this. I think even Hendrix would like this version of the song, maybe because it is a fresh take on the material and not a slavish copy of the original, which is not to say slavishly copying the original doesn't take tremendous skill in itself. I like the way Young serves the material, but in his own style.

Derek M Yes, I know. Bob Dylan wrote it and first recorded it. The Hendrix version is better known than Dylan's version, I believe. That's the one I think of when other people play the song.
