Pedro Sensei- first off thank you for all you do for Judo- you are an icon. I have one specific question for you that may be hard to answer, plus one request. First off, I MADE my son left-legged. Long story short: he's a high-level soccer player whom I had kicking the ball with his left foot since he was in diapers- and believe it or not it stuck; the kid is a highly-skilled 11-year-old soccer player who literally hardly even USES his right foot he's so left-footed. It's to the point where his coaches want him to practice on his right some of the time because he's SO one footed. ANYWAY, what gives him an advantage in Soccer (fewer lefties- simple as that) isn't really the same in Judo. It WOULD BE were he left-HANDED, but he's not; up top he's righty. Still, I JUST introduced him to Judo and he feels comfortable fighting left foot forward, because his bottom half wants that (obviously) and his top half wants that "righty" boxing stance. Problem is in our sport if you're NOT left hand dominant and you come out "Lefty" you now suck at the top game, because your weak hand/arm is leading the action. HOWEVER, he is tall and skinny and likes Tai O and Ouchi as a lefty. So, to my question: should I just keep him primarily lefty and "build" his "weak arm" or should I switch his stance to righty? Odd issue I know, but I figured if anyone might be able to help, it would be you. In sum, can an "up top"-righty become and effective "up-top"-lefty? Thanks Sensei- for everything!
