When learning how to park I came across many videos on You Tube. It took me a while to use the tips in your video since I stitch the exact opposite. I start in the upper left and work down and also do my stitches from bottom left to upper right / then bottom right to upper left.\. My current HAED project is so confetti heavy and I must congratulate you on this excellent video. Took be about 200 stitches to get it to make sense but have now completed 10 chart pages on 28 ct 1 strand over 1 with no mistakes and relatively neat backs. Most of my 10 stitch rows have 10 different thread colors and I have found your method the best. Other parking methods doing all of one color in 10 x 10 square first leave you with single areas to fill in that can get very tight and time consuming to work with. I find that using your method is probably faster overall since you go at the same pace for each row no matter how much confetti is present. Thank You for this video.

Happy stitching to you and thank you again for such lovely comment.

Thank you so much for showing us your parking method! Your method of having a zig-zag edge to your columns... is it because you found straight lines were too noticeable on the finished piece? I would really like to see the back of your piece. How long have you been cross-stitching? How long have you been using a parking method? How do you secure the end of a worked thread when the time comes? Thanks! Happy Stitching!
@nadiaivazov10 жыл бұрын
Tricia, thank you very much for your comment. Yes, the zig-zag edge prevents the final piece to have lines, that is if you over-pull your thread during stitching, like I do sometimes. The back of my work is extremely messy, you cannot have it any other way when using the parking method. I have been stitching for about 5 years, but not constantly, i put my work away for a while, but have been stitching non-stop for the past year and a half. I discovered the parking method about a year ago and have been using it since. I love the way my work looks when stitching this way, so neat. I am making a video on how to secure the thread at the beginning and at the end. So stay tuned. Thank you so much again and happy stitching to you as well. Cheers.

I would be afraid of accidentally doing the second leg of the cross with the incorrect color when working with threads that are very close in color. I always complete the entire stitch before moving on.
@bethbrunelle74317 жыл бұрын
This is a great tutorial! Thank you! I have a question though, and it's not about your ring. :-) What exactly are you doing at round minute 7:30? I'm guessing something to do with ending an old thread or startfing a new one, but even after watching it about 20 times I have not been able to figure it out.
@nadiaivazov7 жыл бұрын
Hi, Beth. Thank you for the compliment. What I am doing there is start a new thread. It is called a loop method. So if you need to stitch with 2 threads, you take one, fold it in half and thread the needle with the ends. Thus on the other end you will have a loop. Then you pull your needle from the front of the work to the back, leaving a loop outside. Pull the needle now from back to front and through the loop. Your thread is now secure. To hide the loop, just pull the needle through the same hole as it is poking out of. Now you have a very secure thread and can start stitching. Hope this explanation helps you. If you have any more questions, please let me know.

@nadiaivazov5 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thank you so much. I am glad that my video is helpful You can flip the frame and do it the usual way under the stitches in the back. But I am too lazy. I pass the needle back up 10-15 stitches higher than where I am, make a little micro stitch to secure and cut off the thread. This way it gets covered by my work by the time I get to it and when I do, I just cut off the remaining little tail. Another way is to secure it with a couple of micro stitches under the already stitched work and cut it off. But this way it might look a little bumpy Let me know if you have any questions. I hope I explained it ok

Your method starts at the bottom of your pattern and works up? How far up do you go before working across? If I wanted to stitch my pattern from top down would I have to reverse everything and stitch my crosses from left to right instead of starting right to left? I think stitching my pattern bottom up would be too confusing....
@nadiaivazov2 жыл бұрын
Hi. You can go top to bottom. No need the reverse the stitches, do it the usual way. You can pick an area across. Let's say 10 stitches wide or 20, etc and stitch in that area. Once you stitch all the way down or 50 stitches down, etc you can move to the next area. You can also do it 10x10 squares and move whichever way is comfortable for you. I know I day there rules and stuff, but throughout the years I realized you just need to find a comfortable way to do it. Once you get the hang of it you will pick the way you like it. I actually stopped stitching this way and moved by to "by colour" method as I do not have access to the stand at the moment and stitch on the hoops. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions
@jesm17762 жыл бұрын
A little confusing concerning the order in which you stitch the colors in a row. You start the first half stitch with whatever color is last in a row( on the left), but when you stitch the second half of the cross you start with the color that is first in the row? I would like to see you stitch a row with three colors where the beginning row color and ending row color are different. But I really like video and hope I can master your method!
@nadiaivazov2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Honestly, I have changed the way I stitch. In the case of the parking method, to be frank, the way I stitch in the video is if you want to be absolutely perfect and neat in your stitching as possible. However, let's say you have 3 colours in a row: green, red and blue. Stitch whichever one you want first, say blue, bottom and top stitches, park it in the next row, then do red, then green. It really doesn't matter. I know a lady who stitches by colour in a 10x10 stitches squares, then parks her needles in the next square. She calls it a lazy parking method. So start stitching and you will find the way that is most comfortable for you. Good luck

ok there is one major last thing i am wondering before i go and try all these types of cross stitches (3/4 , 1/2 ,1 ,1/4 ) stitiches , and backstitches. I get how to park but if you have many colors you are going to have to have a needle for each color or cut it and tie off in the back by ( either weaving it thru back threads or make knots in back canvas) so kind of wondering what your opinon is when you should cut / reuses needles as opposed to just using more needles in terms of time saving of doing the design.
@nadiaivazov8 жыл бұрын
Hi. I don't think you can use parking with just 1 needle. it will take you forever. even is the chart calls for say 50 colours, you will not be stitching with all of them at the same time. I prefer diagonal parking, that way you don't have that many needle at the same time. I used probably 10 at the time maximum. so I suggest 1 needle per colour in the area you are stitching at the moment if you are using parking. don't tie any knot on your work. those will make your finished work uneven when you stretch it. hope this answers your question. let me know if you have any more. I will be happy to answer

Thank you for sharing this method, its a very useful video. :-) Like others I am interested in your laying needle tool you have made yourself. Are you willing to share how you made this or do you make and supply to the UK and if yes at what price? Best regards Allison
@nadiaivazov10 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Allison. I am glad you like the video. The tool is made out of the UV gel. I do no mind sharing the info, but you need a lot of materials for it, which are quite expensive. I do make and sell them. The price is $25 canadian plus shipping. I can ship to UK no problem. I think the shipping would be about $10 canadian regular post. Please email me if you are interested and we can discuss the details. Nadia@lenalis.com

sure you could reuse one needle for each color and make the knot/weave it to secure it but this takes sometime and seems like there should be a balance to so one doesn't take for ever and that one doesn't need a million needles I know this is a stupid question but there are designs probably with 20 to 40 colors and designs that are only one or two colors so in that respect i just want to know your what you thought about it
@lisac395 жыл бұрын
I love this video! Thank you for posting. It has really helped me understand the concept of working multiple colors in a row without having to constantly start/finish and thread needles. Is there any way you would be willing to show me what the back of this looks like? And also how are you securing the thread on the back when you run out? Thanks so much!! I am wanting to start working larger projects without getting frustrated and then not finishing. I do somewhat care about what the back looks like for future projects.
@nadiaivazov5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the compliment. I am very glad my video is helping. But if you care about the back, this method is not for you. The back is VERY messy. Btw I am talking here about all these rules, but to be frank there are none. Stitch how you feel comfortable. Some people stitch by colour in a 10x10 squares and then park their needle in the next square. Some do row by row or a 10 -stitch column. So pick what way is most comfortable for you
@nadiaivazov5 жыл бұрын
I don't mind showing my back, just don't have a project right now that is not framed. Maybe check the internet. But it is quite messy. Also keep in mind that the amount of thread you use is more than when you just stitch by colour
@lisac395 жыл бұрын
@@nadiaivazov Thank you for the reply! It's very helpful and I had tried a small portion of a project and I noticed the back was messy and I just wasn't sure I was doing it correctly. Can I park from side to side... Say start at top left and go down and have the parked threads on the right side of my work instead of Below or above where I'm working? Thanks again!
@nadiaivazov5 жыл бұрын
@@lisac39 depends which way you go. I always start bottom left and move up diagonally 10 -stitch columns. If you go down then you can park either below or to the side, depending if you are moving left or right. Try a few ways and see which one is the most convenient for you. Make your edges not even this will help with the look of your piece and smoother transition from column to column. Good luck

Hi! Thank you for the fantastic video. I was wondering how May rows or stitches away are you happy to park, and how far is too far and you would choose to cast off and cut the thread. Thanks!
@nadiaivazov9 жыл бұрын
Well, the 10x10 rule is really just a guideline. You can even do a whole row if you are comfortable with it. I personally try to do a row of 10. But depending on the pattern sometimes do more than 10 stitches. Really just want you are comfortable with.

@brendawieber50328 жыл бұрын
Holy smokes. Have I been cross-stitching incorrectly all these years??? I usually stitch from left to right, and from the bottom left corner of the X to the top right corner of the X. Am I doing it incorrectly or is it done this way because of the "parking method"?
@nadiaivazov8 жыл бұрын
+Brenda Wieber well, usually it is stitched the way I do. For example in the kits where you have half-stitches, those are usually from top right corner to the bottom left one. However, I think that if you have all of your stitches going in the same directions it really doesn't matter how you do them. It really has nothing to do with the parking method. Hope this answers your question.

Absolutely. You can finish each stitch individually. There are different ways to "park". You can do a 10x10 square by colour, row by row, column by column, finishing each stitch or go the way I do it. Any way you are comfortable with.This video just shows main points and the way I do it.

How do hide the end of the flos after you cut it?
@nadiaivazov10 жыл бұрын
The ends you see on the right have been stretched there from 10-15 stitches to the left. By the time to get to the point of cutting it off, they thread should be covered by the stitches in the back of your work. I do it so that I don't have to turn my work around to secure the thread at the end. Hope I explained it right.

would this method work on big projects?
@nadiaivazov9 жыл бұрын
+Madeline Needham Actually, this method is perfect, in my opinion, for big projects, such as HAED. It is easy to get lost on where you are when you stitch by colour. This way you always know where you stopped. You don't have to do it exactly in the way I do. you can go horizontally, diagonally, 10x10 squares, whatever fits you better. Good luck and happy stitching

Cut the top off, heat the needle so that it melts the plastic and sticks to the ring and then wrap a ribbon or something around the ring for softness
