my dj style is tech/house drop mixes, tempo increasing a few bpm with every new track to slowly build the energy from about 100 bpm on up...is that a sound idea or crap? I like it and the one gig I did, the 12 people in the room liked it...

Wouldn't it be easier to teach people to set up 8 bars ahead of the drop, match up the beats then bring it in at the drop with the levels good and the track in time. Saves possibly mishitting the play button and embarrassing yourself, also allows you to put fx like reverb or Echo on the original track to blend it out?
@FiSHY4D5 жыл бұрын
Except 8 bests wont give beginners enough time to beatmatch the track. I set it up at least a phrase early, if not more. I prefer buildup blends more than drop mixing personally.

Just apply the same concepts. Switch from one track to another in phrase. Put your hot cues at recognisable points. Examples are the “Ohhh” just before the beat kicks in in Hot in Here by Nelly, or the first instrumental part of Yeah by Usher.

hi jaime, can you please do a video showing some transitions in dark and hard techno. it would be great thank you.
@bavikon5 жыл бұрын
alejandro campillo I think there’s no really techniques for Techno. You just have to mix the tracks. Of course the transition are longer than in other genres. Techno is more flowish and focus on tension and release in a slow way.
@jamest74855 жыл бұрын
@@bavikon I second this! With techno the mixing and transitions are typically much more drawn out. However, it does allow for some sick energy to build through the mix.

How about pressing both play/pause instead of moving faders, works wonders also.
@matthewbohn7655 жыл бұрын
dr.labbe jl That would depend on how you have your controller set up. For instances, I have pause set up as a brake on mine, like a turntable would be. However, if you have the cross fader setup with a sharp cut in, you can simply tap it for a sharp cut in/out.

Great video thank you! 2 quick questions 1) do the songs need to be same key? Can you drop it at the start of break down ?
@Crossfader5 жыл бұрын
The songs don't need to be the same key as they're not being played over one another however it may sound a bit cleaner if they were. For some songs you could drop it at the start of a breakdown however if there isn't much build up leading into the breakdown then it may sound pretty random to then slam into another song. Swapping the drops over works well because they're both the same section of music and the lead up to it enhances the drop.

That's cool but you can actually sense that song was changed so how do u keep it smooth to avoid from crowd to know that you have changed the song
@klausmogensen86915 жыл бұрын
It's not a bad thing that they sense that is it? Regardless of mix type? Sometimes it's a good thing if it's recognized right away - sometimes maybe 8 bars in. But if everything has been smooth enough to not cause a breakup in their dancing, they basically just sense that they are now already dancing to a new track they know
@B0bbyV5 жыл бұрын
For the perfect transition to happen song does not necessarily has to be the same bpm, It would need same(desirable) or similar beat and regardless of what part of the song you use, it also has to be in the same or coordinating key. Transition has to happen on the same or similar note from the same or corresponding scale. Example transitioning C Major. Notes: C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C into G Major. Notes: G, A, B, C, D, E, F#, G, you can transition on any note except F#. You can also use songs in F Major and A minor to seamlessly blend.

Ive always felt like this technique is like cutting corners to a proper transition. Idk Always didnt feel right abt it, like im not implementing much skill to do this, as dumb as that sounds, so i tend to avoid it. Like someone mentioned in the comments a better way is to start beat matching on the 16-32 beat mark while having the fader down of the song your going use the drop in. Then switch decks at the right time to hit the drop. Personal preference i guess
