The theme of the whole Crossfire franchise is shamelessness. It only got popular in China because it was ran by the internet tycoon that is Tencent. Tencent had pretty much the entire Chinese internet user base by ripping off a message chatting software and it became the messenger everybody used. And Tencent was able to push this soulless Korean Counter-Strike rip-off to all its users down to the 5 years olds in a time where nobody knew what Steam is and internet cafes are running pirated versions of CS1.6. In the original CrossFire, there was rampant micro-transaction, cosmetics and pay-to-win elements. The meta weapon back then was a silenced M4A1 with camo that somehow had more ammo, more damage (capable of 1 shot headshot unlike the F2P version) and faster fire rate and low recoil. The game was a tool of scamming teenagers out of their pocket money and it was way before any of the western games companies like EA has caught on the trend. Talking about innovation amiright? In the end of the day, this series just personifies everything that is rotten with online gaming in Southeast Asia countries and it's utterly not ashamed of it. Tencent proudly proclaimed CrossFire was the FPS game that had the biggest player base in the world and sometimes put patriotic spins on how well the game is doing, anything to just earn more money. CrossfireX is just a continuation of that line of thinking. It's just a spectacle they think they needed to keep their braindead player base playing. "Hey look, we can also make games with good graphics. Isn't this what you all wanted? Now give us more moeny."

0:56 not only China, and South Korea Crossfire is also popular in most Southeast Asia Particulary in my country Indonesia which published by our local video game publisher, Lyto. The game franchise also favoured by many Indonesian gamers especially PC players on Internet Cafe (which in my language as "Warnet/Warung Internet") besides Point Blank (another CS clone), Counter Strike and Ragnarok Online RPG that you can enjoy with your own instant noodles. Like Point Blank the game also had a paywall but instead of in-game currency it used a real money. The suckiest part of this monetisation is that you can buy the same weapon but with different skin alongside good weapon status which falls to pay-to-win game. Also the story of the game itself is clearly non-existent as the game just only "Counter-Terrorist vs Terrorist" trope as it's story basis which is the reason why this game's story is a jumbled mess due to the said franchised itself doesn't have any coherent story whatsoever. After looking up Microsoft decided to take the IP with Smilegate and marketed it to the western market that have little known to the said franchise and it's nature and decided to take Remedy to develop campaign under the IP's restrictions, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?! As told by my university teacher about game markets lecture "we must know your audiences in order to make your game have a purpose to be played with" and he said in detail about the game markets and audiences based on region besides gender and age which makes me buggled out as why this game which the franchised known for it's pay-to-win mechanic and it's chosen platform and audiences and Microsoft marketed it as "console exclusive" and not marketed it towards Asian audiences to begin with? Gman, you ever play or check out 1C’s “Forgive Me Father”? It’a retro-inspired horror/action Lovecraftian adventure told in “comic-book” style art/concept. It’s in early-access in Steam right now & it’s *FANTASTIC*

Wow, that's heartbreaking. From the footage it looks visually great, at least partly. It's clear that a lot of skill has gone into making some of the assets and models in the game, and some of the line work sounds good - but then other parts look completely half-assed.

I like how on a full reload, your character turns the rifle over to look at the bolt - this is something you do to visually identify if a rifle is empty, but it only makes sense when it's a weapon that locks open when it runs dry like an AR-15 or most pistols. The AK doesn't lock open, so that bolt is in the same position as it would be if it were loaded or not, so he's just looking at it for no fucking reason lol.

They have never talked about this game like It's theirs or promoted it. It was a Paycheck from a big Asian company that they could put towards work on Alan Wake 2. They were contracted to make a generic FPS and that's what they did. It's the gaming media who gobbled up the "made by Remedy" and spread the headline, which they are not wrong.

Crossfire was actually popular in Russia as well. The whole jist of crossfire was that you could buy guns with real money, and you would just annihilate everyone (You could also RENT some guns. Yeah, gun subscriptions.). There was a really cool dinosaur mode, and I believe it is the single reason I played it. It's funny seeing this game still sucking money out of people in every way possible.

This was almost certainly Remedy on auto-pilot for a paycheck. This really is one of the games of all time. It doesn't help that Game Pass subscribers couldn't play for 3-4 days after the launch because of "pricing issues". The game still showed as needing to be paid for despite being included with Game Pass at launch.
@Gatorade693 жыл бұрын
Yeah all these comments saying they have lost faith in Remedy are funny. Remedy never promoted this game or really even talked about it. It's clear it was just a Paycheck so they can work on Alan Wake.

I used to play the original game on PC like 10 years ago. Would've been pretty cool if they made a successor to that for PC and kept it fair without pay to win. But I guess that's never gonna happen. At this point I feel like they couldn't even deliver a proper modern PC game, I'm not even mad it's console exclusive even though that's kind of a shitty move for the successor of a PC game.

Y’know, I’m nostalgic for faux-tacticool silly “John Matrix” “modern military FPS” games. I’m an honest sucker for it who even LIKED COD Ghosts single player. I’m sad a bit about how it’s kind of dead. I’d like a lil’ indie FPS that plays the silly 80’s-90’s story straight with the diet tactical elements, y’know?

Pity the artist department, because the only effort that was put into the game were the visuals. Not masterpiece, but not bad either.

I don't care what anyone says, I will always like the generic tacticool military aesthetic. Especially when it's filtered through a dev team whose only knowledge of guns and tactical gear is Wikipedia and action movies. There's something charming about the way South Korean devs approach modern warfare FPS game art styles.

This is what happens when you make things for China. You have to step on egg shells so in the end you have a bland and boring story and gameplay. This is precisely why Blizzard fans were upset by the moves made to please China.
@tilehopper3 жыл бұрын
Crossfire is owned by Smilegate, a South Korean company. Their biggest playerbase is in South Korea then China. And CrossfireX is actually their attempt to cater to the western market and its obvious Remedy input in the campaign is to just get the game down where the story is controlled by Smilegate. Way to go to get it wrong mate.
@dragoneye62292 жыл бұрын
@@tilehopper I got it wrong? I'm not the one claiming it was made by China. Though you said I am. 1 wrong for you. I'm not the one stating the biggest player base matters you are which is irrelevant to the topic of sterilizing games to appease the paper dragon. 2 wrongs for you. Cater to the western market? How? You do realize what is acceptable in the US is not in Germany? Look up Command and Conquer Generals some time. There is no "Western Market" for games. There is a US market and a European market. 3 wrongs for you. Remedy put the campaign in but didn't make the campaign you say? That's an interesting and inherently wrong take. The campaign would be the scenario AKA the writing. Remedy did that. The only thing Smilegate did for the campaign would be the gameplay if you are correct. 4 wrongs for you. Now I'm not the type to block people or delete things. Why? Because I want Gman and his entire fanbase to see the whooping I just laid on your sorry foreign a$$. You people need to stop thinking you are our equals in any way shape or form. You simply aren't. You don't even have the means to find unbiased or truthful information because your people are wimps. Your military is full of socialists and we all know how well they can fight don't we? World War two anyone? How many socialists died in comparison to anyone else? What's the ratio on that again? You people can't even make proper weapons of war. You shut down anyone who disagrees with you like whiny babies. Your education system is just a cult simulator that toadies up to the government and you wonder why we don't like the idea of becoming like you? Gee what could the reason POSSIBLY be for that? Considering how great a developer Remedy is if i had to guess they took this contract only for that massive paycheck from the Chinese so they could focus on their own games. Game development costs a shitload and you have to get funding somehow so i can't blame them. Even if this does damage their reputation somewhat because its so bland and most people don't even know it exists, whatever who gives a fuck.
